Cat could be a Bond Girl in her outfit tonight, very gold and shimmery.
As I blogged earlier, Jessica is out of the competition. She explained that she broke some ribs and fractured some more. Yuck. Poor thing. She's still going to be on tour, after she has time to heal.
Enter Comfort.
It's all about the votes from now on, so the judges are relegated to American Idol status, just there to give their critiques. The lowest number of votes = out, one guy and one girl. Still, Lil C is the guest judge this week.
Couples for this week are mixed.
Courtney & Joshua 1st dance (Hip Hop choreographed by Dave Scott) Courtney is nervous about popping, because she has never done it before. Courtney's character is Bride of Frankenstein, and she did pretty well. There was a hand stand thing she did that was a little weak. Joshua was awesome, and he did some lip syncing to the music, and the routine ended with a cute "electric shock" when he kissed her. Lil C thought that Josh killed it, and thought that Courtney did well, too. Mary thought they had great chemistry, and cackled about how much fun it was, and how Joshua stole the show, and said that Courtney did a respectable job. Nigel commended Courtney's character, but also caught the problem with the leg in the air not going so well, and he loved Joshua.
Everyone will also do a solo in the weeks to come.
Chelsie did a solo to Pon de Replay, and she was in a very cool shimmy dress. It was a good solo, but could have been better. I do love her, though.
Kherrington & Mark 1st dance (Country Two Step choreographed by Ronnie and Brandi) Brandi is all preggers, and that was kind of cool to see her dancing so super pregnant. Their turns in the beginning were not completely in sync, but I don't know if they were supposed to be. The rest of it was pretty good, but I don't know anything about the two step. It was kind of choppy. Lil C thought it was a fun routine, but thought there was a missed turn in the beginning. He liked their characters. Mary thought that Kherrington's arms were loose and the turns didn't connect smoothly. Mark looked really surprised when Mary gave him kudos, saying that it was not his fault if a turn was not met by Kherrington. Nigel accused Kherrington of leading instead of letting Mark lead, and he was proud that they didn't give up, even thought they looked uncomfortable.
Gev's solo: He is so cool. I really love to see him in his own element because he has amazing control and ability.
Comfort & Twitch 1st dance (Smooth Waltz choreographed by Hunter Johnson) The first lift was beautiful, and looked effortless. I still am not feeling a connection from Comfort, but Twitch gave it his all. The lift where Twitch "cupped her butt" as she put it in rehearsals was wonderfully done. Comfort still looked uncomfortable, oddly given her name. Lil C didn't think they were floating well enough. Mary didn't like it. She said it was lacking power. I like it better when she doesn't like something, because at least she doesn't cackle or scream. She said that there was no flow, and the quality of movement was not there, no rise and fall. Nigel thought they didn't look like they belonged in the top 10, but he was appreciative of the final lift, and called it their Dirty Dancing moment.
Courtney's Solo: She is just so likeable. I think she really might be my favorite girl at this point, right up there with Chelsie. She did a gorgeous solo.
Katee & Will 1st dance (Broadway choreographed by Tyce Diorio) They both got into character beautifully, with Will playing a straight laced guy and Katee playing a ditzy temptress. They had a boat as a prop, since their song was Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat. By the end, Will had ripped his shirt open, because what's a routine if he's fully clothed? It was cute. Lil C thought they were explosive in character and choreography. Mary cackled and screamed, so she must have liked it. She thought Katee was super cute, and Will gave his all and had fun and did great. Nigel said it was terrific and worthy of a Top 10.
Mark's Solo: He redid his solo for Bohemian Rhapsody we saw bit of in Vegas, and I can't blame him. He is awesome and so different. I'm sad it had to end!
Chelsie & Gev 1st dance (Contemporary choreographed by Sonya) I love these two together! The routine was really quite beautiful, and they had great chemistry. Lil C said that they really committed to the routine, and it was great. Mary said that they had amazing believable chemistry, and appreciated Gev's leaps, and the effortless lifts. Nigel didn't think that Gev was passionate enough and thought he might have Courtney on his mind. I wonder if those two are really a couple. Probably not, but they are so cute.
Comfort's Solo: She was pretty good in her solo, but I still think she could have given it more.
Twitch's Solo: He certainly covered the stage. He moves in such interesting ways. He was wearing a SuperTwitch T-shirt, and it was cute.
Courtney & Joshua 2nd dance (Rhumba choreographed by Jean-Marc Genereaux and France) They certainly have chemistry. I thought I caught a couple moments when Courtney looked like she was thinking about what came next. They did beautifully, though. I loved it. Lil C said they took his breath away and he might need his asthma medicine. He also noticed that Courtney was anticipating lifts. Mary whined about how difficult the rhumba is, and thought they did great with hip rolls and keeping balanced, and thought it had subtle sexiness, then she yelled about how fantastic it was. Nigel sucked up to the choreographers, and thought that Joshua was nicely butch. Joshua seemed jealous that Will and Twitch "always get naked on stage"
Katee's solo: She grinned through the whole thing and the song was kind of sad, so I wish he had emoted a little better. But the dancing was nice.
Kherrington & Mark 2nd dance (Jazz choreographed by Tyce Diorio) The routine focuses on showcasing the style of the dance and not a story. I like stories, especially with Mark. They just looked like two people excited to be dancing jazz. I don't really love them as a couple, and that makes me sad because I love Mark so much. Lil C liked Kherrington's turns, but thought that when Mark was getting Kherrington out of the lift it didn't look smooth. Mary said it didn't make her feel anything. I kind of agree and that is sad. She also thought that Mark really benefits from a character, and I also agree. Nigel called it a driving test. They passed the driving test, but it felt passionless.
Will's solo: He was very emotive, and he did an amazing leap that looked like he had jumped off a springboard. He's safe.
Comfort & Twitch 2nd dance (Hip hop choreographed by Dave Scott) They are really competitive with each other, and I think this type of thing works better than a love story. Twitch did a backwards worm at one point (instead of on his stomach, he was on his back). It was a great routine for both of them to show what they can do, and the choreography was really neat. Lil C said it was kind of Buck. I assume that's good. Hey - he just made my week by defining buck: when internal artistry meets physical expression. Now that makes sense. He loved it, and thought it was the best Comfort has been, and I agree. Mary cackled and screamed about how buck it was, and she can't pull that off. She said that Comfort stepped up to the plate and did great, then she did "Not Worthy" bows for Twitch. Nigel said it looked like they were dancing for the joy of it, and it didn't look choreographed. He said this is the first time he has seen evidence of his prior exclamation that Comfort is the best hip hop girl he's seen.
Kherrington's solo: She also grinned her way through a kind of angry song. It was an ok solo, but not great. She is super sexy.
Katee & Will 2nd dance (Pas de deux choreographed by Dwight Roden and Desmond Richardson) It's a kind of ballet, I think? It's a new style for the show. Will is half naked again, and I am angered that they are dancing to Archie's version of Imagine. There was a moment where Katee looked like she got stuck in a spin for a moment, but she recovered well. Will had a couple amazing outstanding leaps, and a beautiful spin sequence. The very end had a spin into a lift and it was so interesting (in a good way) that I want to watch it again. I can forgive them for the Archie song. Lil C thought it was a great routine, and thought that they had commitment and conviction and passion and fervor. Mary said beautiful several times and let out kind of a yelp instead of her full-blown scream. Nigel sucked up to the choreographers again (got to keep them happy and coming back), and he caught one mistake that Katee made (I missed it, but my husband saw it), but thought that they nailed it otherwise.
Joshua's solo: He did the best of the night I think. He did a back flip out onto the stage, threw in some Michael Jackson moves, and a fantastic roundhouse kick. It was powerful and fun, and made me like him even more.
Chelsie & Gev 2nd dance (Jive choreographed by Jean-Marc Genereuax and France) Gev's wearing heels, and Chelsie is very shimmery. It was a great fun routine and their characters were great. I think that there was one missed connection where Gev reached for Chelsie and missed her, but other than that, it was rocking. Lil C said that Chelsie outstepped him, and led, and he thought that Gev needed to kick it up a notch to settle into the style. Mary thought it was great and cackled about how Chelsie was great. She squealed about how she wanted more fun in the dance, but she liked it. Nigel agreed that Chelsie really outdanced Gev, who was sometimes stacatto instead of bouncy.
This is so hard, I don't know who is going to leave!! Probably Comfort, though Kherrington might be in trouble. I hope that Mark and Gev are safe, and I think that Joshua really did a good job. Will and Twitch... I hope they are both safe. I don't feel Will as much, but you can't deny his talent. This is going to be so hard in the weeks to come!
I think that Courtney, Joshua, and Chelsie did the best tonight. Anyone have any idea who is going?
Tomorrow there is going to be a group Bollywood routine! Woot!

The Mole: 7/14/08
It seems like so long ago that The Mole was last on!!
Nicole calls herself Dr. Diva (wonder what her patients think about that...) and Paul said that he just wants to outlast her.
They are in the Mendoza region of Argentina, where the finest Malbec wine is made. Clay is put off by the scent of the vineyard.
For the challenge, they split into to groups - runners and thinkers.
The Runners are Mark, Alex, and Clay, and they choose Mark as their best athlete.
The Thinkers are Paul, Nicole, and Craig, and they pick Paul as their best communicator. More Paul picked himself.
The Mission is called The Grapes of Cash. They have to find 7 bottles of Malbec hidden in the vineyard. Each one is worth $10,000. The thinkers have to answer trivia questions, and if they get a question right, they get coordinates to send to the runners (via cell phone) to find the wine. If the answer is wrong, the coordinates will be wrong. To keep time, Mark will be on a treadmill, If he stops, the mission is over. For every bottle that is found, the treadmill speeds up. As the Communicator, Paul cannot help Nicole and Craig with the trivia answers, but Mark is allowed to.
Brain Teaser #1: From the following list of words, choose the word that does not fit. Ice, Cheese, Chocolate, Plastic, Wood.

Brain Teaser #7: Every morning at 9 AM, my wine cellar receives a delivery of 22 bottles of wine, all of which are stored in the wine cellar. Every afternoon at 5 PM, I remove 12 bottles from my wine cellar and give them away to friends. No other bottles enter or leave my wine cellar except at these two times. On January 1, at 8 AM, I had 400 bottles in my wine cellar. On what date in January did my wine cellar first contain over 500 bottles of wine?
A. January 9
B. January 10
C. January 11
D. January 12
They choose C, I think it is B, because the wine afficianado in question hadn't received his day's wine yet on Jan 1, so his net for the day would in fact be 410. Jan 2 = 420, Jan 3 = 430, Jan 4 = 440, Jan 5 = 450, Jan 6 = 460, Jan 7 = 470, Jan 8 = 480, Jan 9 = 490, Jan 10 = 500. Now, the question does state over 500 bottles of wine, so they might actually be right... we'll see.
Paul sent the runners to the coordinates for Brain Teaser #7, and they retry. Not before there was some drama between Paul and Nicole. Paul erased the wrong answer, and they decided to fight while poor Mark was running. Smart. Mark again answered the right answer when he brought up the fact that the wine collector brought in 22 on the morning of January 9, then gave them away, but at the beginning of the day, he had 505. Smart.
Paul made an error in giving coordinates and blamed the Thinkers. Nicole resented that. Mark was running at full speed before long, and Clay and Alex walked leisurely through the vineyards looking for the last bottle of wine. They have to get back with the bottles before Mark has to stop, and he has been on the treadmill for almost an hour, and it was full speed for a good time. He was fighting to keep going, and it was a good fight, 53 minutes, and the Runners returned, earning $70,000. The pot is now $247,000. Mark was a superstar in this mission, because he was running on a treadmill and was answering most of the questions to boot!
The contestants got some good wine and then went to their hotel. Paul and Alex question how terrible Nicole was in the mission, and I agree. I don't like Paul so much, but she is just so terrible. Paul even questions that she is actually a doctor! Mark brings up the fact that everyone in the game could be implicated in no less than three sabotages. Anyone could be the Mole.
Alex made a little song about Nicole being the Mole and sang it to her, and she called herself Molarific. Craig brings up that Nicole never seems to take notes. Mark wants to encourage Alex to drink copious amounts of wine before the next quiz, in hopes that he messes up.
Time for the next Mission, called Swing Out. It's worth $60,000. They will be harnessed in a bungee rig and they walk a plank on top of a crane, and they have to toss a bag of mate onto a bullseye as they jump. The bullseye is worth $10,000, with outer rings with $8000, $6000, and $4000. Nicole calls last, because she thinks she might chicken out.
Mark is first. Before he jumps, he is offered a chance at exception. It's time for Exception Price is Right. The person who guesses closest to the amount the group is going to earn in the mission without going over will get the exception. Mark guesses $10,000. He then jumped and missed the bullseye.
Paul is next, and Mr. Host Man claims that he did the challenge and hit the target. Paul's exception guess was not revealed, but his bag went in the water. Oops.
Clay's guess was also not revealed, and he jumped and also missed the target. He kept his eyes closed most of the time.
Craig says that he doesn't dangle well, and he says he has vertigo. He guesses (secretly), jumps, and screams the whole way down, and his bag also falls short. Poor guy.
Alex also doesn't deal well with heights, but even though his jump was not graceful, he is the only one so far to hit any part of the target, even though it was $4000. Better than nothing.
Nicole looked down after getting bitchy at Mr. Host Man, and nearly quit, then brought on her girl power, and jumped quite gracefully. She missed the target badly, and Clay thought her miss was Molish, because she looked like she had goof form.
The total pot is up to $251,000.
No one got an exception, because they all had really high guesses. Nicole guessed $28,000, even though Alex had just gone and gotten $4000, and he was the only one to hit anything, and even if she had hit the target spot on, it wouldn't have made that much. I think being on the plank messed with all math.
Before the quiz, Nicole jotted down some information from Clay in her journal. Mr. Host Man welcomed them to their lovely pre-quiz dinner, and then he asked them who's conscience had kicked in. Everyone said that they left their scruples behind them. Clay attempted to get Alex to drink too much, and it didn't seem to work.

As seen on Zap2it, Jessica has an unspecified injury and she has to leave the competition. Comfort will replace her.
I wish I could say I was upset by this news, but I really don't think I will miss Jessica. I do think that Comfort is a more interesting dancer, even if she has fallen flat a little.

The Next Food Network Star
It's down to the Final Four. Will this be the week that Squinty Lisa breaks down for good? They are in Vegas, and they are going to be meeting Paula Deen. Let's get right to it.
Everyone has something to work on for this week. Adam needs to cook food that isn't raw and he needs to no act like a complete clown. Lisa needs to step back from the Vulcan-know-it-all attitude, and also stay away from the complete lack of control she had last week with Rachael Ray. Kelsey needs to look like she knows what she is talking about, and not let on that she may have learned it in the past 2 months. Aaron needs to learn to talk and cook at the same time. Who will learn their lesson?
As soon as they get to Vegas, and Caesar's palace, they are met by a man dressed like Caesar welcoming them and letting them know that they have a very plush suite. That poor man is either a very embarrassed actor, or a stripper who thinks he has gone up in the world.
The final four are invited to Bobby Flay's restaurant, and they get to share a meal with Bobby and none other than Paula Deen. Lisa feels kinship to Paula because they are both Southern women. Nice thought, except Paula is personable and fun. Lisa started crying (out of happiness) when Paula was telling her story.
Their challenge is a Throwdown! There will be 2 one on one throwdowns, where each person will do their own signature dish and then their version of someone else's signature dish. Each one-on-one will be 75 minutes. Lisa is feeling the heat, because most of her overcomplicated and ostentatious dishes take longer than that to make. (I'm sorry, I'm picking on her extra tonight, I just can't help it. I want her off my tv)
In addition to cooking, they will be doing little interviews with Dayna Devon, a host of Extra. That's a good challenge.
The first throwdown is Lisa vs. Adam. Lisa's signature is casoulet, and Adam's is Macaroni and Cheese. Adam was nervous about doing a cassoulet in such a short amount of time, and Lisa used the word "extrapolation" in describing what she plans to do with Mac & cheese.
Lisa very systematically set out all of her ingredients before she got started, and called Adam "Kid Chaos" as he seemed to flail about trying to maintain focus.
Paula noticed that Lisa works pretty intensely and wondered how she could bring that to a show. Lisa claimed to have two sides - one which is "Game Face" and one which is Cry-baby southern sweetheart. I don't know about that.
Adam decided to kick up his mac and cheese with lobster, and Lisa thinks that's a bad idea. When Dayna Devon interviews Adam, he was all over the place trying to cook and actually walked away in the middle of a question. Not so hot. Lisa did a better job with the interview, and that surprised me. She is cooking with pearls on. I am forced to hate her.
The judges adored Adam's lobster mac & cheese, and now I wish I had some. Paula even said that she was going to use his panko breading. Cool. Lisa's Mac & Cheese was called muddy. Paula said "I do not like it at all. At all. In fact I hate it." Knife into the heart of the Southern Crybaby.
Paula then called Lisa's cassoulet "truly delicious," and Bob called it masterful, and Bobby said it was possibly the best cassoulet he had ever had. Wow. Impressive. Adam's cassoulet was muddled. Bob called it "Johny's first cassoulet." Not good. It looks like a tie, with the contestants both winning their own signature dishes.
The second throwdown is Kelsey's chicken parmesan and Aaron's stuffed pork loin. Kelsey spent some time talking to herself about strategy. Aaron has decided to add some sides to his. Kelsey is using pork tenderloin instead of loin. She's changing the recipe up a lot. Kelsey made a big boo boo (and she knew it) when she again talked about how she learned how to make buerre blanc in culinary school. The dreaded C word.
Lisa threw Aaron a look when he was grabbing something to make a side dish before he even started the chicken parm, and it actually made him back up and go work on it. Kelsey overcooked her pork, and admitted it in the interview with Dayna Devon. Not sure if that was the best idea.
The judges look like they wish they had some sunglasses in the hot Vegas sun. Kelsey's sauce for the chicken parm got good marks, but her chicken was a little dry. Paula said it was petite in size and thought it would be a nice appetizer. Aaron's last minute chicken parm was called soul satisfying and hearty. He won that one.
Aaron's pork loin looked gorgeous, and was called delicious, and Paula exclaimed that the sweet and heat worked. Bobby said that Kelsey's plates looked a little less hearty than she normally does, and Paula wanted more pork. I'd say that Aaron won both of the throwdowns.
The final four are justifiably nervous about judging. They hug it out before heading in.
The judges called Adam's mac and cheese the best thing he has made thus far. The judges were disappointed in Lisa's bland mac and cheese. Almost vice versa with the cassoulet. Lisa was told that she was too frantic in the kitchen, and seemed unwelcoming. Of course, Adam's horrible performance with Dayna Devon was also brought up. They wanted more passion from Adam.
Aaron's pork loin was given very high marks. The judges were disappointed by Kelsey's direction. Her chicken parm was called deconstructed to the point that the chicken and the sauce were not friends. Aaron's almost forgotten chicken was cooked perfectly, but he was criticized for not knowing what chipotle was. Kelsey was given good points for talking to Dayna Devon well, but Bob was upset by her repeated mention of culinary school.
Each contestant was given a chance to talk about their own performance.
Lisa knows that she has to meld her style to something appealing. Adam knows that he has to work on his organization. Kelsey wants to cook the way she likes to eat. Aaron said something about being a C average person and wanting to go above that. He wasn't very clear.
The judges called Lisa frenetic and robotic and I wonder if they have been reading my blog. They think that Aaron is struggling on doing things for the camera, and that Kelsey is good on camera but is so inexperienced it's hard to count on. Adam is given points for his likeability, but they are not sure that he has the food passion to be a good food network star.
Aaron is the first one safe, followed by Lisa. I knew this was not going to be her week. Adam rounds out the top 3, and I am pleased. Kelsey really fell flat this week.
I would love to see either Adam or Aaron on a show. Lisa would have to have a personality transplant in order for me to watch her show on purpose.

So You Think You Can Dance - 7/10/08 Results Show
The group number is a hop hop routine, and they have glow in the dark stripes on their sleeves and dance in mostly dark for some of the thing. That's neat. It wasn't my favorite routine, but it was pretty good. It was choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon.
Nigel shares the news that Philip Chbeeb has agreed to the dance battle versus Robert Murane on the finale! Fantastic!
Up to find out their fate first are Katee and Joshua and Comfort and Thayne. Unsurprisingly, Comfort and Thayne are in the bottom 3 couples, and Katee and Joshua are safe. Mark and Chelsie and Jessica and Will are up to find out where they stand. After a slightly cruel fake out, Jessica and Will are in the bottom 3. Who will round out the bottom 3? Courtney and Gev, or Kherrington and Twitch? I am 3 for 3 in my predictions, and Kherrington and Twitch are in the bottom.
Before seeing solos, I think that Jessica and Thayne are out. Comfort does pretty well on her solos. I'll make another prediction after seeing the solos.
It's time for a dance company, and it's Revelations. It was beautiful to watch.
Comfort is up first for her solo, and she did a whole lot of running around, and threw in some popping. Not her strongest.
Thayne I thought did a better solo than I expected, but not anything groundbreaking. I still think he's in trouble.
Jessica didn't blow me away either. She almost never does, though, so I am not surprised. I won't be sad if either she or Comfort goes home.
Will isn't going anywhere, the judges are in love with him, and for good reason. His solo was dynamic and impressive. Plus, he went skin to win, and the judges love his abs. Again with good reason.
Kherrington's up next, and she also danced to a OneRepublic song, and included a truly impressive and fast series of pirouettes. The end was kind of abrupt, but I don't think she's going anywhere.
Twitch had a fantastic solo and had some really awesome choreography that was totally unique and all Twitch. He is safe or I'm a monkey's uncle.
After the solos, I think it's Comfort and Thayne. But it might be Jessica. If it's Will or Twitch, I will be floored.
Katy Perry is up next, singing I Kissed a Girl. She looks so
much like Zoe Deschanel it's confusing. She sounds much better out of the studio than singing live. That's Katy Perry with the umbrella, and Zoe Deschanel in black. Eerie.
Now for the results. Kherrington is safe. Nigel liked Comfort's solo, and was disappointed in Jessica's solo. Still, because Jessica was so beautiful as Eve in the first routine last night, she is saved. Oh well. I can live with that result.
Nigel told Twitch that he was glad to see Twitch in the bottom, so America could see his solo. I agree. He is safe. Will is told he is superb and would fit in with the dance group that danced earlier. That means Thayne is going home. Nigel said that they wished that they could have kept all the guys and gotten rid of two of the girls. I'm right there with them.
So, my predictions were good, though I wasn't quite sure on the girls. I think it was a tight race for them.
Next week is the Top 10 and the couples get mixed up! That ought to be interesting. Will Mark and Chelsie shine with other partners as well as they work with each other? Will Gev get paired with Kherrington and have to wear stilts to dance? I can't wait to see!

So You Think You Can Dance - 7/9/08
I don't know about you, but I look forward to this all week.
Cat's hair is looking more "normal," though her dress looks sadly like something out of Daisy Duke's "Gussy it Up" collection. "Granny made this light weight quilt... it's not warm enough to use on the bed, but I bet I could make a little dress out of it!"
Not terrible, but it could be better.
I really hope that Jessica is gone after this week. She is the only really weak link that I keep seeing over and over again. Even her opening solo is boring. Mia Michael's is joining Mary and Nigel tonight, and she looks nuts as ever, wearing a weird little hat that perched on top of her head. I guess it works for Mia, though...
Time for the dancing!
Mark and Chelsie 1st dance (Salsa choreographed by Alex Desilva) These two are such good actors, it is easy to fall in love with them. Well, that and the fact that they are both smoking hot dancers. Chelsie left half of her dress at home, and it was a good move. She looks kind of like a spunky peacock, complete with plumage on her butt. They did a long side by side sequence that was awesome, and the looks they gave each other were smoldering. The final lift and dismount were incredible. Nigel thought that Mark was a little tight in his upper body, but their footwork was lauded, and he also loved the way Mark gets in character. Nigel made some slightly inappropriate comments about Chelsie's sexy dress. Mary cackled that she liked it, although Mark could have been looser. She thought that Chelsie was phenomenal and that Mark is a good partner to her. Mia called Chelsie's legs old Hollywood, and said that she is so gorgeous, she wants to stab her. That goes right up there with Paula wanting to squeeze Archie and dangle him from her rearview mirror. Mia said that Mark was a little awkward tonight, but called him a total star. I just love this pair so much, I am going to be sad when they get split up for the couple change up. I have nearly no doubt that they will still be around for that.
Comfort and Thayne 1st dance (Hip hop choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon) Thayne struggled really hard not to grin during rehearsals, and he ended up smiling a little in the dance, but he was popping well, so it wasn't too bad. Comfort did beautifully, but it is her home genre, so that's to be expected. Comfort managed to bring the sexy she brought to the dances last week onto the dance floor for this. Nigel loved the acting allowed by Tabitha and Napoleon's choreography. He thought that Thayne was trying to get the character in there, but that Comfort missed out on that opportunity. He said that they danced it well, but didn't bring the connection to it. Mary whined that they were missing the chemistry. Mia said it was a little bit more than good. She thought that the strongest part was the beginning choreography on the stairs. She says that she is a fan of Comfort, but she is backing off of that now, because Comfort seems to be along for the ride and not fighting to be in the competition. She says that Thayne missed out on the meat and potatoes of the routine. I wonder what meal he brought to it. Scrambled eggs?
Jessica and Will 1st dance (Contemporary choreographed by Tyce Diorio) Skin to win, I suppiose. Will is wearing almost nothing by a fancy loin cloth. The theme was kind of Garden of Eden. Gorgeous, but I thought that Will stumbled a little in one of the small lifts. It was beautiful, though. Nigel loved the choreography, and called it extremely erotic. He said it was extraordinary, and thought that Jessica kept up with Will on this one, and he could hear them breathing together. The routine brought a blush to Mary's cheek, and she said it was one of the most amazing pieces she's ever seen on the show. I don't know about that. Then she threw in a scream. Ugh. Mia fell asleep to the music when Tyce first played it for her, and she didn't fall asleep to the routine, that's for sure. She said that they explored newness, and gave some love to Tyce. She said it was like moving human body art, and she felt it was the first time Jessica committed entirely to a routine. It is the best I have seen her.
Courtney and Gev 1st dance (Cha cha choreographed by Anya and Pasha) I love Anya and Pasha! In rehearsal, Anya, Pasha, and Gev were conversing in Russian and Courtney felt left out. The routine started with a crazy lift, and then Gev did a backflip. It was kind of a disco Cha cha, and they had some serious chemistry going on. Courtney went to the Half a dress shop, too. She is a little shimmery sequined firecracker. Her hips were moving like mad. Not Heidi-level, but not bad! Nigel said that Courtney managed to be as sexy as Anya, and said that even though it was not technically perfect, it was fantastic, even though he said that Gev pursed his lips more than Mick Jagger. He said that they are magic together as a couple. Mary proclaimed it magic, and hot-cha-cha-cha-cha. She agreed with Nigel that Gev was not technically perfect, but she said he was so into Courtney, she didn't care. Again I miss my mute button as Mary hands them the screaming ticket to the hot tamale train. Mia called the routine fabulousity at it's best. Though they are not the best dancers on the show, she says their performance quality is amazing. Gev shaved his chest for the routine, and Courtney said that made her really pleased. Courtney looks spray tanned within an inch of her life, and Gev is kind of pasty, so that could have been better matched. I don't like the spray tan, though, so I wish that Courtney had stayed natural. Only gripe.
Twitch and Kherrington 1st dance (Krump choreographed by L'il C) It'll be interesting to see how they do this style, because it is very aggressive, and that's about the last adjective I would use to describe them. Kherrington proclaims to have some gangsta in her, and I don't know about that. The routine started with Twitch doing a little solo, and he pulled Kherrington out to the audience. I think I actually bought it. She got some aggression out there, and so did Twitch. Nigel made a face like an angry frog trying to get his gangsta on. Nigel said on paper, it was like a duet between Busta Rhymes and Miley Cyrus, but admitted that in the actual performance, he loved it. He said that Kherrington lost the honesty and the attitude for the last 16 bars of the routine, and that was true. Mary said that it was the first time she has believed in Krumping. She called Kherrington a complete surprise. Mia called it dirty, disgusting, nasty, and buck. I don't know what this buck is, but I assume it's what people are going for in this style. She said that Twitch served Gangsta on a platter, and she thought that Kherrington was just as gross as Twitch in the beginning, and then got tired, and she was willing to ignore the tired because the rest was so good. I mean gross. Whatever is good. I'm so confused I don't even know anymore.
Katee and Joshua 1st dance (Viennese Waltz, choreographed by Jean-Marc Genereaux) The idea behind the dance is that Joshua is a ghost and Katee can't see him, but she can feel him. It was absolutely gorgeous, and the lifts were fantastic. Nigel thought that Joshua was a little too bouncy instead of flowy, and I can see that in the playback. Other than that, he loved it, and thought that Katee was wonderful. Mary commended them at their great job in the lifts. She thought that the dancing was not quite there, and she's the expert, so I believe her. She called it choppy. Mia thought that Joshua was a little clumsy, but she called Katee a gift to dance.
Mark and Chelsie 2nd dance (Broadway choreographed by Tyce Diorio) It's another chance for them to show off their acting chops, and boy did it work. It wasn't my favorite Broadway routine, but it was fantastic. Nigel called the routine amazingly hot, and loved Chelsie's legs. Mary called it sexy, sultry, and bluesy, and cackled her love for Chelsie's attitude. Mia thought the routine worked and was a success, but thought that it showed that Mark was not very trained and was lacking in some technique. She wanted more movement from Chelsie, but as a whole thought it was cool. I am still in love with them, hands down.
Comfort and Thayne 2nd dance (Contemporary choreographed by Mandy Moore) In rehearsals, Comfort had more troubles with her dislocated shoulder. You wouldn't know from the dance. It was soft and flowing and nicely danced. I still don't know if I see the heat and chemistry between the two of them. Nigel said that he wished a different couple had danced it, (I think Chelsie and Mark would have been fantastic) because he thought the choreography was fantastic and they didn't dance it as well as the choreography deserved. Mary was also disappointed, and didn't think it was believable. Mia also loved the choreography, but thought that Comfort was faking technique. She thought if they had a better connection, it would have been ok, but it was just not getting there. She adored Thayne, and called his movement grounded and thick. Again, that seems to be a good thing in her book.
Jessica and Will 2nd dance (Quickstep choreographed by Tony Meridith and Melony) The beginning of the routine was an impressive gymnastics show by Will, and then a slightly clumsy back bend by Jessica. To me, the connection they established earlier was all but lost in trying to get all the steps into the quick step. I didn't buy it. Nigel said that the gymnastics were good, the twist was good, and the jive was good, but the technique was lacking in the actual quickstep. Mary said that Will's jacket made his shape look bunched up. Their quickstep was not gliding like it should have been. Mia thought that Jessica did a big backslide from the first dance, and I agree. She said that Will looked tired of carrying her, and said that he needs a new partner, which will happen for next week, if he's around.
Courtney and Gev 2nd dance (Jazz choreographed by Mandy Moore) The story is a couple lost in the jungle, with the girl holding a map and knowing where they were going and the guy unwilling to look at the map. The choreography was fantastic, and it used some of Gev's b-boy ability. I loved it to pieces, and they totally connected with it. Nigel said it was fun, but felt like cotton candy, with no substance. Mary said that she thought it was rough and raw and loved the way that Gev moved, and thought that Courtney was dynamic. Mia said that they had a great night tonight, and called them one of her top couples. They are just so adorable, I love them. I think they are my second favorite couple right now.
Twitch and Kherrington 2nd dance (Smooth Tango choreographed by Jean-Marc Genereux) The dance is basically a Mr. & Mrs. Smith Style Fight Scene. At least that's what they said in the rehearsal bit. I didn't see it. I thought that Kherrington showed some aggression, but not as much as in her pasa doble from last week, and I honestly didn't get much feeling at all from Twitch, and that makes me sad. Nigel said he didn't feel that Twitch's performance was honest, and thought he looked uncomfortable. He said that Kherrington had no passion, and that they murdered the routine instead of each other, like they were supposed to. Mary said she liked the beginning and the end, but not the middle, and thought the reverse turns were too bouncy. She believed Kherrington more, but still not good. Mia thought it was lacking in support, and thought there was no fight and it was a complete lack of commitment, and called Twitch stiff, and Kherrington mediocre. Ouch. But deserved.
Katee and Joshua 2nd dance (Bollywood choreographed by Nacor? and Marla?) I've done some Bhangra dance workouts before (I am awful) and it is tough, but I love to watch it. I thought that they brought their all to the routine, and I was impressed. I hope to see more Bollywood dance on the show, because it was fun, and the costumes were fantastic. Nigel thought it was great, and he's been trying to get it on the show for 3 years. He said it was amazing to see the similarities to hip hop in places. Mary said that Heart and Soul = Stardom, and they did everything right. She placed them securely on the hot tamale train, gave an insane screech, and then Nigel put them on the Vindaloo Express. Mia said that Katee should always dress like that, and was only sad that there were only two of them on stage, instead of the huge amounts of people that do them in Bollywood movies.
So my faves of the night are Mark and Chelsie, followed closely by Gev and Courtney. Katee and Joshua are right there for me, too, solidified by the Bollywood routine.
In the bottom are Comfort and Thayne, and even though their first dance was great, Jessica and Will, and sadly Twitch and Kherrington, because of their weak tango. At this point, I think it is Jessica and Thayne going home, though it could be Comfort. Can't wait to see what they bring tomorrow.
Cat's hair is looking more "normal," though her dress looks sadly like something out of Daisy Duke's "Gussy it Up" collection. "Granny made this light weight quilt... it's not warm enough to use on the bed, but I bet I could make a little dress out of it!"
Not terrible, but it could be better.
I really hope that Jessica is gone after this week. She is the only really weak link that I keep seeing over and over again. Even her opening solo is boring. Mia Michael's is joining Mary and Nigel tonight, and she looks nuts as ever, wearing a weird little hat that perched on top of her head. I guess it works for Mia, though...

Mark and Chelsie 1st dance (Salsa choreographed by Alex Desilva) These two are such good actors, it is easy to fall in love with them. Well, that and the fact that they are both smoking hot dancers. Chelsie left half of her dress at home, and it was a good move. She looks kind of like a spunky peacock, complete with plumage on her butt. They did a long side by side sequence that was awesome, and the looks they gave each other were smoldering. The final lift and dismount were incredible. Nigel thought that Mark was a little tight in his upper body, but their footwork was lauded, and he also loved the way Mark gets in character. Nigel made some slightly inappropriate comments about Chelsie's sexy dress. Mary cackled that she liked it, although Mark could have been looser. She thought that Chelsie was phenomenal and that Mark is a good partner to her. Mia called Chelsie's legs old Hollywood, and said that she is so gorgeous, she wants to stab her. That goes right up there with Paula wanting to squeeze Archie and dangle him from her rearview mirror. Mia said that Mark was a little awkward tonight, but called him a total star. I just love this pair so much, I am going to be sad when they get split up for the couple change up. I have nearly no doubt that they will still be around for that.

He said that they danced it well, but didn't bring the connection to it. Mary whined that they were missing the chemistry. Mia said it was a little bit more than good. She thought that the strongest part was the beginning choreography on the stairs. She says that she is a fan of Comfort, but she is backing off of that now, because Comfort seems to be along for the ride and not fighting to be in the competition. She says that Thayne missed out on the meat and potatoes of the routine. I wonder what meal he brought to it. Scrambled eggs?
Jessica and Will 1st dance (Contemporary choreographed by Tyce Diorio) Skin to win, I suppiose. Will is wearing almost nothing by a fancy loin cloth. The theme was kind of Garden of Eden. Gorgeous, but I thought that Will stumbled a little in one of the small lifts. It was beautiful, though. Nigel loved the choreography, and called it extremely erotic. He said it was extraordinary, and thought that Jessica kept up with Will on this one, and he could hear them breathing together. The routine brought a blush to Mary's cheek, and she said it was one of the most amazing pieces she's ever seen on the show. I don't know about that. Then she threw in a scream. Ugh. Mia fell asleep to the music when Tyce first played it for her, and she didn't fall asleep to the routine, that's for sure. She said that they explored newness, and gave some love to Tyce. She said it was like moving human body art, and she felt it was the first time Jessica committed entirely to a routine. It is the best I have seen her.
Courtney and Gev 1st dance (Cha cha choreographed by Anya and Pasha) I love Anya and Pasha! In rehearsal, Anya, Pasha, and Gev were conversing in Russian and Courtney felt left out. The routine started with a crazy lift, and then Gev did a backflip. It was kind of a disco Cha cha, and they had some serious chemistry going on. Courtney went to the Half a dress shop, too. She is a little shimmery sequined firecracker. Her hips were moving like mad. Not Heidi-level, but not bad! Nigel said that Courtney managed to be as sexy as Anya, and said that even though it was not technically perfect, it was fantastic, even though he said that Gev pursed his lips more than Mick Jagger. He said that they are magic together as a couple. Mary proclaimed it magic, and hot-cha-cha-cha-cha. She agreed with Nigel that Gev was not technically perfect, but she said he was so into Courtney, she didn't care. Again I miss my mute button as Mary hands them the screaming ticket to the hot tamale train. Mia called the routine fabulousity at it's best. Though they are not the best dancers on the show, she says their performance quality is amazing. Gev shaved his chest for the routine, and Courtney said that made her really pleased. Courtney looks spray tanned within an inch of her life, and Gev is kind of pasty, so that could have been better matched. I don't like the spray tan, though, so I wish that Courtney had stayed natural. Only gripe.
Twitch and Kherrington 1st dance (Krump choreographed by L'il C) It'll be interesting to see how they do this style, because it is very aggressive, and that's about the last adjective I would use to describe them. Kherrington proclaims to have some gangsta in her, and I don't know about that. The routine started with Twitch doing a little solo, and he pulled Kherrington out to the audience. I think I actually bought it. She got some aggression out there, and so did Twitch. Nigel made a face like an angry frog trying to get his gangsta on. Nigel said on paper, it was like a duet between Busta Rhymes and Miley Cyrus, but admitted that in the actual performance, he loved it. He said that Kherrington lost the honesty and the attitude for the last 16 bars of the routine, and that was true. Mary said that it was the first time she has believed in Krumping. She called Kherrington a complete surprise. Mia called it dirty, disgusting, nasty, and buck. I don't know what this buck is, but I assume it's what people are going for in this style. She said that Twitch served Gangsta on a platter, and she thought that Kherrington was just as gross as Twitch in the beginning, and then got tired, and she was willing to ignore the tired because the rest was so good. I mean gross. Whatever is good. I'm so confused I don't even know anymore.
Katee and Joshua 1st dance (Viennese Waltz, choreographed by Jean-Marc Genereaux) The idea behind the dance is that Joshua is a ghost and Katee can't see him, but she can feel him. It was absolutely gorgeous, and the lifts were fantastic. Nigel thought that Joshua was a little too bouncy instead of flowy, and I can see that in the playback. Other than that, he loved it, and thought that Katee was wonderful. Mary commended them at their great job in the lifts. She thought that the dancing was not quite there, and she's the expert, so I believe her. She called it choppy. Mia thought that Joshua was a little clumsy, but she called Katee a gift to dance.
Mark and Chelsie 2nd dance (Broadway choreographed by Tyce Diorio) It's another chance for them to show off their acting chops, and boy did it work. It wasn't my favorite Broadway routine, but it was fantastic. Nigel called the routine amazingly hot, and loved Chelsie's legs. Mary called it sexy, sultry, and bluesy, and cackled her love for Chelsie's attitude. Mia thought the routine worked and was a success, but thought that it showed that Mark was not very trained and was lacking in some technique. Hell's Kitchen: 7/8/08 - Finally the Finale!
The show started with yet another season recap. Because last week's wasn't enough. It's like a recap of the recap. Blessedly, it was much shorter than last week's 10 minute extravaganza of a recap.
When we left off last week, the two finalists were on the brink of their decision between having dumb or dumber on their team (that would be Jen or Matt) Petrozza picked Jen, and she is all puffed up about it, thinking that she was chosen last because she is such a strong leader and neither of the finalists wanted her to outshine them in the kitchen. Yup, Jen. That's it. It's not because you have an attitude worse than a cat dumped in a bathtub. Not at all.
Christina took Matt, glad not to be saddled with Jen, and made the astute observation that Matt is quite good when he's on, and she thinks she can keep him on with some good encouragement. I hope so.
Petrozza and Christina bond with their teams, and share their menus and visions. Jen is bitter about not being in the finals. Matt is skeptical, until Christina butters him up by saying that Matt's rissotto is her inspiration for hers, and he glows under the little white lie. Like last week, Christina seems more focused than Petrozza.
Christina's design is still a bit concerning, and she basically says to get it done, and Petrozza's upholstery is not done yet, and he is freaking out.
In a stunning move, Jen asked Ramsey for a letter of recommendation ("With all my strengths, minus the mouth" Yes, she actually said that.) As if he had been prodded by the producers, Matt sang silly songs and went a little nutty. Jen also went a little nuts because Petrozza called her sweetheart. Jen seems unable to look over her ego and keep her head in the game. I would not be at all surprised if they were coached to try to sabotage.
It comes time for Ramsey to try the dishes. (Each only shows one dish from each course)
Christina:
Appetizer - Trio of Beef Sliders (mini burgers) Ramsey wanted them to be a little different from each other.
Entree - Grilled NY Strip Steak with Herbed Compound Butter and succotash. Ramsey thought the presentation would be better, slice up the steak and "show you care."
Dessert - Tropical Sundae. He loved it, but thought that the presentation could be slightly improved.
Petrozza:
Appetizer - Lobster Strudel Vanilla sauce? Ramsey thought it was overcooked and curdled
Entree - Filet Mignon with Caramelized Onion Risotto & onion rings Ramsey thought the risotto was too stiff, and suggested a different presentation.
Dessert - Vanilla souffle with whiskey creme anglais. Ramsey called it brave and loved it.
About the menus, Ramsey commented that Petrozza went a little high end and dangerous, and Christina was a bit safe and could ramp it up a bit.
Seeing their dining rooms, Christina's restaurant looked lovely. I want to sit in the comfy chairs right now. It looked great. Ramsey called it very LA. Petrozza's restaurant looked a little odd to me, but Ramsey liked the flowers and thought it was rustic, and said he felt like he was in the Hamptons.
Service time!
(Jen got pissy about Bobby saying it was time to Man Up. She said "What about Woman it up?" Dude... it's an expression. Lay off.)
Both kitchens seemed to start off well. Christina took Ramsey's suggestion and gave the sliders different toppings, and it looked yummy. Petrozza's didn't start out so well. Bobby's first dish was cold, and at least he caught it. They looked better the second try, and the customers liked it. Back in Christina's kitchen, Louross was having issues and getting backed up, and Christina asked Matt to help him out. Matt was asking about every freaking little thing like he had never cooked before ever. They seemed to catch on.
In Petrozza's kitchen, they ran out of blue cheese, which was at Jen's station, and Jen wouldn't take any responsibility for it. Then, the strudel was running low, on Bobby's station, and that was the other appetizer. Not good. Petrozza took some time, but decided to do a lobster risotto instead with Bobby's suggestion, and it went over well with customers.
Though Christina's kitchen is getting entrees out, she had a lukewarm steak returned. Not good. That was Corey's station. Then Matt's risotto caught on fire. Christina got assertive and fixed the problem.
Petrozza's kitchen had timing issues, and there seemed to be silence. He couldn't get things plated, and was reluctant to ask for help, but he finally did.
Matt's weaknesses resurfaced and his fish was raw, and then he mumbled under his breath that Ramsey needed to shut the f* up. Not ok. Ramsey couldn't let that slide, and he gave Matt a talking to.
Little Miss Difficult in Petrozza's kitchen couldn't get an onion ring out, and kept sending up limp onion rings.
Mr. Incompetent in Christina's kitchen was still sending up raw monkfish, and mumbling about everything. Ramsey had pretty much had enough and wanted to kick him out. Christina told him to refire it, and then he said "Shut the *f* up and let me cook." She had to stand over him to get it cooked right. I don't know that she should have taken that kind of mouth.
The desserts seemed to go out with no problem, and service was completed.
Decision time!
Chef Ramsey was happy with the night - "More highs than lows." That's a good thing. The finalists went upstairs to wait, and Ramsey reminisced about their performance... apparently he remembers things with a blue filter on his vision, if you would believe the video recap of their nights.
Ramsey tells the both of them that they are great chefs, and says he had a terrible time making the decision. He is strangely quiet when he leads them up to their respective doors. The door that opens will be the winners, and the loser's will lead to .... duh duh duh... certain doom!
Just kidding. The loser's won't open at all. But that would be entertaining, wouldn't it? If the winner got a restaurant, and the loser had to battle minions of darkness? Just saying, something they might think about for next year.
And the winner is....
Christina!

Ramsey tells the both of them that they are great chefs, and says he had a terrible time making the decision. He is strangely quiet when he leads them up to their respective doors. The door that opens will be the winners, and the loser's will lead to .... duh duh duh... certain doom!
Just kidding. The loser's won't open at all. But that would be entertaining, wouldn't it? If the winner got a restaurant, and the loser had to battle minions of darkness? Just saying, something they might think about for next year.
And the winner is....
Christina!
I have to admit that I am a little surprised, but I am pleased. I think that she did a better job planning her menu, and her restaurant design was more appealing. She worked well in the kitchen, and she dealt decently with Matt. She kept him pretty focused, even if he was really really annoying.
Petrozza is an excellent chef, and he did an admirable job, but I think Christina deserved this one more.
Not the best season of Hell's Kitchen ever, but I am happy with the end. I just hope that next season is better!
