Amazing Race - 10.11.09

I hate football and I love my dvr.  Did have to record the show on after The Amazing Race in order to see it in it's entirety.. anyhow...

From Ho Chi Minh City, the Globe Trotters are off foires, to Phnom Pehn, Cambodia, and they need to find the Correspondent's Club, find the Assignment Editor, and ask for their next assignment in a whisper for their next clue.

I love the Globe Trotters.  I just do.

The other teams follow behind them, and they find out that the only flight is not leaving until the next day, at 12:25 PM.   Lance & Keri are still super annoying.  Zev & Justin got a slow cab driver.  Bwah ha ha.... the first flight was booked up right before Lance & Keri got to the counter.  They are booked (with Justin & Zev) on a 2:15 PM flight, but got on standby for the first flight.

Can I just say that I really hate when everyone gets on one flight?  It seems to not make it as much of a race.  Both Lance & Keri and Zev & Justin got standby seats, and everyone arrived in Cambodia at the same time.

Zev & Justin, Sam & Dan, and Megan & Cheyne got to the Correspondent's Club first.

Their next clue was a photograph of Jackie O, and it said "This woman has a hotel suite named after her," and they have to find the hotel.

The ther teams arrive to get their clue, but Mika and Canaan were denied their clue because they didn't understand the importance of whispering, and he asked for his task instead of his assignment.  He finally figured it out, and off they went.

All the teams headed to the Royal Hotel, but pretty much no one knew that it was Jackie O in the picture.

Detour

Cover - Teams must locate a helmet stand and get four helmets, and sell them to a family of four - two adults, and two children, for $10 total, and return the money to the stand.

Wrap - Teams must go to a Russian market, and get an intricate scarf from the shopkeeper, and then find a woman wearing the exact same scarf.

Everyone chose Wrap, until Lance & Keri, who chose Cover.  I hope that it is ridiculously hard.

Zev & Justin finished first, and their next clue sent them to travel on foot about 2 km to their next clue.  Sam & Dan finished next.  The Globe Trotters got some help from some women from Pennsylvania. Ericka & Bryan got really lucky and found their scarf wearing woman right off.

I am so bummed that Lance & Keri managed to sell their helmets and head to the next task with seemingly little difficulty.

Roadblock

One person must wear a monkey mask and tail and learn to do three monkey maneuvers to their monkey masters' satisfaction.

Zev did the task and did a really great job on the first two tasks, but had a really hard time with the last one, and nearly passed out (or at least freaked out a little).  Sam & Dan arrived next and managed to pass them and to the pit stop with them.   No one seemed to have a really hard time with it except for balance issues on the last move.  Keri did the task for their team, and Lance did a whole lot of yelling at her, as she did a whole lot of yelling back.

The Pit Stop is Wat Pnom, and it is beautiful.

Zev & Justin arrived first.  I think that Sam & Dan got a slow cab.  For their leg win, they won no further amazing trip.  Bummer.  Sam & Dan came in 2nd, followed by the Globe Trotters....

And... crap.

Zev & Justin can't find Zev's passport!!  They had to go back and ask Phil what they could do.  They need to find the documents, or they will be out of the race.  The search is on!  Phil advised them to thoroughly search their backpacks, though that yielded no backpack.  They have to find it before the last team arrives, or they are out.

Luckily, they had their cabbie's card, and they called him and he agreed to come back and help them look.

Bryan & Erika arrived third (not counting Zev & Justin) at the Pit Stop, followed by Gary & Matt, and Megan & Cheyne, then Lance & Keri (boooo), then Mika & Canaan, and Maria & Tiffany... the passport was no where to be found.

I'm bummed for Justin & Zev, because it is a heck of a way to leave the game... I wouldn't want to lose my passport in Cambodia.  To the American Consolate with them!

Next week - Dubai!

Project Runway - 10.9.09

Heidi met the designers on the Runway, and brought out their new models - brides!  In gowns!

The models are recently divorced, and want to turn their wedding dresses into "hip, cool, outfits" that they can wear in their single lives.

This seems rather awful.  Some of the ladies have been divorced for over a decade, but others have only been in proceedings for a couple months.  Kind of ... wrong.  I don't know.

The designers chose their models.  The women with the most yardage went first.  Shirin was left with the last pick - a dress with nothing added onto it.

While they played with their fabric and their sketches, Tim told them that the last Immunity of the show is up for grabs.  And it's a one day challenge. He sent in the divorcees.  Nicolas' model wants only cruelty free fabric.  Shirin's crazy model wants a Cher costume with a headdress.  Shirin didn't like that idea so much.  Time brought them to Mood, and they have $25, and up to 2 yards of fabric and other things they need.

Gordana had a phone call home and did some crying.  Shirin hated her dress and her model's wishes.  She looked about ready to cry right with Gordana.  Some people tried dying their fabric.

Enter Tim.  He is instantly worried about Christopher, and worried that the model wanted to look like a Cougar.  He is impressed with Irina's dye job.  He thought that Epperson's look was a little lab coaty.  Logan's look was also worrisome to Tim. Gordana did another nice dye job, and Tim liked it.  Other designers laughed as Shirin explained to Tim what her model wanted.  He reminded her that she is the one who is in danger of going home, not the model.  Tim actually put his arm around her and reassured her, and told her to play with the textiles and just be liberated.

The divorcees came in for another fitting. Shirin's model had kind of a snotty attitude.  Shirin admitted that she didn't care so much, but just wanted to do something that she could be proud of.

The next morning, the designers are off to put the finishing touches on their looks. When the models came in, some loved their new looks, and others (like Shirin's) just can't stop complaining.  Nicolas hates his own look, but his model likes it.

The actual models got to teach the divorcees how to walk.  Interesting.

Runway

Michael Kors, Zanna, and Tamara Mellon joined Heidi as judges.

Irina's dress was so much better than the acetate mess she started with.

Shirin's dress was interesting, because she didn't have much to work with.  She ended up doing stitching in a dark color to make a design on it, and I liked it.  Her (annoying) divorcee rocked the runway.  The back did not look well fitted.

Logan's look was something.  I did not like the way the pants fit at all.

Carol Hannah's model had a great walk, and she really worked with the tulle.

Althea's look was really cute, and you would never guess it originated as a wedding dress.

Nicolas thinks that he created a hideous thing.  The pants were a nice color, but I kind of agree with him.

Gordana's dress was really neat.  Very different from the original.

Christopher's dress was kind of space age, but I will never like anything related to a bubble dress.

Epperson's dress looked much better when the little jacket came off, but it was still kind of... eh.

Carol Hannah, Nicolas, and Althea are safe.

Gordana's dress got rave reviews. She only used the lining from the wedding dress.  The judges loved it, and so did the divorcee.

Christopher's fabric choice was called inventive, but Michael thought it looked like a metallic hefty bag, cinched.  Not good.

Epperson's dress was called Oktoberfest by Heidi, and Pirate Wench by another.  Not good.

Shirin explained what her model wanted, and Heidi was glad that she didn't listen.  Shirin's stitching was a really good idea.  Very nice.

Logan's trousers and vest also reminded Heidi of Oktoberfest.  The execution was called amateur, and the cuffs were totally not ok.  One of the judges called it a tragedy.

The judges were impressed by Irina's dress, and they loved the color.  Heidi called it unbelievable.

Shirin is safe.  Gordana won the challenge.  Cool.  Good for her.  Irina is also safe, as is Christoher.

It's between Logan and Epperson, who are sadly two of the normally most talented designers in the competition.  In the end, it was Epperson going home.  All of the Logan-loving models just squealed.  Poor Epperson.  He was so good in so many ways.  Just not this week.

Survivor Samoa: 10.9.09

Will we see any of Galu tonight?  Here's for hoping!

First, fallout of the ouster of Ben on Foa Foa.  Jaison is not having the best time, and thinks that coming on Survivor was the worst decision he's ever made in his life.  Evil Russell doesn't think that Jaison is much of a man for being ready to walk out if Ben had stayed, and gloated that he is in complete control of the game and anyone he wants gone is gone.  Humph.

Some Galu face time, with Shambo telling them how great the Foa Foa beach was, and she is happy about her relationships with that team.  Erik approached Shambo about trying to find where the hidden immunity idol is at their camp, thinking that the clues might be the same for both camps.  John interrupted their talk and had the same thought.  Shambo happily gave up the clues.  I don't know that was the right decision.

Tree mail brought a mission - the leader has to choose two people to go with him out and maybe bring back food.  Dr. Mick chose Evil Russell and Natalie.  Other Russell chose Shambo and Dave.  The two tribe groups met on the beach and waited for Jeff... and found chickens in a cage, and a pirate's chest.  Shambo and Natalie grabbed the chickens, but Dave opened the chest - and they are left on their own, with basically a game of Bocce ball.  The winner gets the chickens.

(They have to throw balls at a stick, and the tribe with the closest ball wins.)

Right up to the end, it looked like Foa Foa might actually win the chickens, with their balls surrounding the post.  Dr. Mick said he could taste the chickens.  Then, the final throw was Dave's, and he nailed it right next to the stick.  Foa Foa continues their abysmal losing streak.

While they were away from camp, Erik decided to get searching for the immunity idol while others at the camp slept or did some work.  John spied him digging, but went back to sleep.  It proved to be much harder to find than the one Russell found - but find it he did, way up in a tree.  Now, will he keep his word and save Shambo if she's in danger?  Time will tell.

The chicken bearers return, and while Dave is stoked inside for winning the challenge for them, he is keeping it cool at camp.  Russell gave the job of chicken tending to Shambo, who seems to speak fluent chicken.

Over at Foa Foa, Evil Russell is unsure of his alliance with Jaison.  He decided that bringing Natalie to the end would be a better idea, because, in his words, she is too stupid to win against him.  She is fine with people underestimating her.

Back at Galu, Shambo was speaking chicken, and let one get away!  Erik was running around like crazy and got clothes lined, literally.  The chicken was way up in the tree, and there was no way that it was coming down.  Shambo is feeling mightly bad, but tried to talk the chicken down.  Nothing.

More Galu, and Kelly is frustrated with Yasmin doing nothing around camp.  Others don't seem to disagree.

Immunity Challenge

They have to run across a net with blocks, and stack them high, then go across a rope bridge, untie more blocks, and stack that set of blocks, too.  They have to build one tall stack each.

Galu sits out Shambo, Laura, Dave, and leader Russell.

No one had any problems with the net run, an Foa Foa used Jaison's height to get the blocks on top, while Galu had Kelly and Monica climb on top of shoulders.  Both finished their stacks and headed on to the rope bridge.  Galu was in the lead on the rope, but Monica struggled as Natalie and Ashley looked like they were born on rope bridges.  Evil Russell was insanely good at the rope!  Galu was just a little ahead.

The second stack of blocks is much taller, and Natalie stood on Jaison's shoulders.  The blocks had to stay up for a count of five, and it was close, but Foa Foa finally won an immunity challenge, thanks to Natalie's steady hands and Jaison's strong back.

Let's see the cracks in Galu - Leader Russell was sorely disappointed in Monica's performance at the challenge.  Others think that Yas should go because she doesn't do diddley squat around camp - and Yas actually told Shambo that it is her strategy to not do anything, because then no one can criticize her for doing something wrong.  Leader Russell still thinks that Yas brings it in challenges, and he thinks that the others have to listen to him because he is the leader.  Dude.  It doesn't work like that.

Tribal Council

Galu's first trip to Tribal!  Yas defended herself, saying that she wore heels in the jungle to look good for Probst. Russell thinks that challenges are the most important thing, and Yas agrees.  Monica's name is brought up for having blown the challenge.  She admitted that she took a bit of time on the rope, but thinks that she did well in the end.  Laura (who?  Gosh, I want them to lose more so that I can learn their names!) thinks that helping around camp is paramount.

The votes were close, but in the end, Yazmin was going home. She may be strong in challenges, but you also can't just lie around the camp waiting for other people to open coconuts for you.  I won't miss her.

Do you think the right person went home?  Do you think the errant chicken will return to roost?

Next week - gross food!  Yay for that!  And, it's going to rain and rain and rain, and I bet Leader Russell will regret not choosing that danged tarp!

Top Chef - 10.7.09

Ash didn't go to culinary school.  Michael V. has a hard time looking straight at the camera but loves his kids. Jennifer is not feeling well, but soldiers on.

Quickfire Challenge

Tyler Florence is the guest judge for this challenge.  Cookster.com (which I have never heard of) is sponsoring.  They have to create a dish with 3 key words - mood, taste & texture, what kind of cuisine - and their words are chosen by a slot machine.  And it's a high stakes.

Mike I (stressed, umami, asian) made raw mushroom salad with yuzu emulsion.

Laurine (tart, romantic, latin)  made crusted goat cheese salad with orange jalapeno vinaigrette and hibiscus flowers.

Ash (tired, tart, italian) made a "pantry" pasta puttanesca

Michael V (adventrous, tangy, asian) made a yuzu curd with whipped greek yogurt and seaweed cracker.

Eli (umami, latin american) made a mushroom ceviche with avocado marble.

Kevin Red Beard (stressed, spicy, asian) made a char-grilled pork with vietnamese herb salad.

Bryan (adventurous, crispy, asian) made seared scallops with bok choy and tempura beads.

Robin (stressed, umami, middle eastern) made a root vegetable hash with cumin and curry oil.  Padme pointed out that curry isn't middle eastern. Oops.

Ashley (blue, cheesy, middle eastern) made a feta pudding with sumac dusted halibut.

Jennifer (adventerous, nutty, american) made Maine Diver sea scallops with pistachios and salmon roe.

In the bottom were Robin, Eli, and Jennifer.  For the top, Mike I (booo), Red Beard (who had never cooked Asian food before), and Michael V. Red Beard brought in the win!  Yay!

He won either immunity or $15K.  He took the money. Good for him.

They are getting a dinner party at their place, where they will learn more about their elimination challenge.

They thought that they were going to be treated to dinner... until they got to their kitchen and it was stocked.  Padme told them to come out onto the deck.  They have to do a dinner party in 3 hours for Tyler and three other impressive chefs, and the judges.  Each chef (guests) were holding bags with ingredients.  Knives were drawn to get teams of 2 for which bag they got.

Eli and Ashley, Ash and Michael, Red Beard and Jennifer, Mike I and Robin, and Laurine and Bryan, were working together.  People staked out space - all overthehouse because the kitchen was too small. Macy's provided things like electric woks, which Michael V decided to use to boil water.  Red Beard ended up with Bok Choy and some Asian sauces.  Ashley is going to make pasta or gnocchi.  Mike I. is unfamiliar with the Asian ingredients, but still doesn't want to let Robin have much input.

Tom did a walk through, and seemed unhappy about Ashley and Eli's prawns over gnocchi.

Ash decided to let Michael cook and went down to set the table.  Let's see how well that works out.

Oh crap.  Circuits were tripping and Michael was having a hard time getting his fish cooked on an electric griddle.  That sucks.  Hope that works out.  Robin's tuna was looking a bit overcooked.  Eli oversalted Ashley's gnocchi.

Sponsor moment as Tyler touted Macy's culinary council.

Family style serving!

Ashley & Eli - Grilled Spot prawns with red beet creme fraiche sauce over gnocchi and kale.

Robin & Mike - (Mike described the bag as something that he got, and a lot for him to work with.  As if Robin was not there. Until he started describing the food....) Marinated mushrooms & pickled asian pear roll with seared tuna & scallop.

Laurine & Bryan - Halibut with sherry chorizo vinaigrette, yellow corn cake, and avocado mousse.

Red Beard & Jennifer - bbq kobe beef with cardamom tomato and ginger broth.

Michael & Ash - pancetta wrapped halibut with egg yolk ravioli, asparagus and fennel salad (play on a deconstructed carbonara).

Judge's Table

Going back first are Laurine, Bryan, Jennifer, and Red Beard.  They are the top dishes.  Jennifer and Red Beard worked together - with Red Beard working the meat, and Jennifer with the sauce.  They loved Byran's chorizo vinaigrette.  In the end, though, it was Red Beard and Jennifer's dish that won, with Jennifer taking the win for her sauce - and she got a $10K gc to Macy's.  She said that she might buy a suit or something for Red Beard.  Ha ha.

Michael, Ash, Eli, and Ashley were sent back in the bottom.  Tyler told Michael that the power going out is not a valid excuse.  Ash stood up for Michael's idea, and said it was like washing paint brushes for Picasso, and he was happy to wash paint brushes.  Eli liked the sauce and the prawns, but Toby brought up that some of the prawns were not cooked.  Ashley admitted that was her fault, because she didn't want to overcook them, and she admitted that gnocchi was heavy for an al fresco meal.  They never discussed not serving them once they realized the sauce was too salty with them.  That could be the fatal error.

In the end, it was Ashley going home.   I think it was the right decision.

What about you?

Next week - brothers fight, Robin and Mike I. fight, and more!  Who's excited? Me!

So You Think You Can Dance: 10.7.09

Vegas!

152 dancers - to be culled down to just 20.  That's intense.

The full panel is there - Tyce, Debbie, Adam, Mia, Mary, Nigel.

Solos are up first.  No feedback from judges after this round.

Nathan Trosorus, who was too young last season, is back this season.  He had a ticket straight to Vegas from his last audition, so that's pretty special.  His oves are unique and fun, and he's a truly good performer.

Ellenore Scott is up next, and she had a solo with a ton of personality and great acting skills, as well as great dancing.  The judges (except for Mia) gave her a standing O.

Montage of nameless solos.

After the first 10 solos, two are cut, but two I don't recall.

More solos and happy judges - including Shelby Skipper with his New Orleans bounce.  Everyone was through the round.

Allison Becker (the hearing impaired dancer) and trying to get out of the ghetto Thomas Hamilton are in the next round.  Thomas climbed the tower and got called down by Nigel, and only did a bunch of running around.  Both of them are out.  More nameless cuts were revealed.

Same Sex Ballroom dancers Jacob and Willem are in the next set of solos.  Willem is kept, Jacob is cut.  He left without saying goodbye to Willem.  Sad.

41 people were cut by the end of that round.

The next round is hip hop.  Everyone has to dress the part, and Tabitha and Napoleon were up for choreography.  (Teddy o'the plaid pants thinks he's ghetto for wearing red shoes and a white t-shirt.  Not so much, but he's still cute.)

Teddy's group is up first for their performances.  Nigel stopped the music before it was done, but sent them all through.  I thought Teddy did well.

Next group included hip hopper Jean Lorette (or so) and he was cut, because even though he is great on his own, his ability with the choreography was not good.

(Was that just Megan Kinney cut?)

Ryan Kazperczak split the vote 3-3 and he is safe this round, but needs to watch himself.  Nigel worried that he spent too much time watching the show and not enough time practicing.  Hope that he does better!

Cha cha is the first thing the next day, choroeographed by Louis van Amstel and assisted by Anya.  The routine was insanely fast and intricate.

Billy Bell took a blow to the face and was bleeding profusely from the nose.  If he can stop bleeding, he can go back on stage.

The Lone Crumper Russell was partnered with Iveta for the round.  Billy Bell stopped bleeding, and tried to learn the choreography from his partner before taking the stage.

I am more than impressed with Russell's leg work.   Iveta is astounding.  They are through.  Russell and Iveta got a shout out from Adam.  Deservedly.

Montage of others doing beautifully in the ballroom round.  Can Billy Bell do well with the reduced rehearsal time?  He never got to rehears it with music.  Legacy (B-Boy) and Paula (contemporary) are also in the group.  Billy got kind of lost in the beginning.  Legacy did not do so well, but he is asked to dance for his life later.  Billy did well enough to get through.  Good for him.

Ryan is in the final group of the day.  Oh, how I hope he does well!  Ryan didn't get the feel of the dance down (Nigel said he looked like he was trying to mug the girl instead of trying to dance with her), and heis gone this season.  So sad!  Hope that he comes back!

John Litzler the Tumbler and Legacy were up to dance their solos.  John did great tumbling, but Nigel was disappointed that he brought no personality to the stage.  Mary votes to give him another chance, as does Adam.  Debbie gives him a no, as does Mia.  Tyce is the deciding vote, and can't give him yes, because he wanted more life from him.  They all wanted him to come back to audition again.  Legacy lost it a little in his pre-dance interview, crying some.  Can he bring that passion to the stage?  He was pulling out all the stops.  Nigel told him that his cha cha stinks, but he needs him to be able to dance on his feet too.  Nigel votes him into the next round, as does Tyce.  Mia swore about him some, in a good way, but was annoyed at his frequent stops in his dancing (I agree).  Debbie gave him a yes, as did Adam (who also scolded him for his poor transitions).  He's through.

Teddy Tedholm was cut, as was New Orleans Bouncer Shelby Skipper...

77 dancers left to compete next week.  Can't wait!

So You Think You Can Dance - 10.6.09

Salt Lake City time!

Nigel and Mary are joined by Mia on the judges panel.

Bryan Boyer is up first, and he has pink hair with a black racing stripe.  He's got absolutely insane moves and is a good performer to boot.  All three judges loved him, and Nigel and Mia called him one of the strongest B-boys they've ever seen.  On to choreography with him!  He went right out into the lobby and found someone to help him practice for it.

Tristy Mirci has been in 25 car accidents in the course of 3 years.  Montage of crashed up cars.  She was always the passenger, and I can't imagine her friends ever said "sure, Tristy, I'll give you a drive."  Unfortunately, she is a really bad dancer.  Really, painfully bad.  I think my (completely untrained) 6 year old dances better than she does.  She has danced for 3 years, and Nigel thought that someone has been taking her money under false pretenses. Another crash for Tristi.

Hayley Cloud herniated a disc in her back from a dancing injury, and she's done acupuncture and therapy and feels better now.  She moves with great passion, and has very powerful gymnastic moves, too.  Mary called her strong, powerful, and uninhibited.  Mia wanted to see her hold a handstand for the time it took to do the judging, and she did it for a while.  Nigel asked about her injury, and she said that she "sat and watched" her competitors and knew that she couldn't live without dance.  Nigel likes her style.  She's on to Vegas.

Megan Kinney is back and she is just as delightful as I remember her.  Genise Ruidaz was someone we haven't seen before, but she was gorgeous and did an amazing back bend with her leg up in the air.  To Vegas with them!

Montage of pretty girls and Nigel being lecherous.

Ariana Lowrey is with a Burlesque troop - her stage name is Satine La Rouge.  She is 21, but looks about 40.  She stripped!  She has a big bow on the back of her undies, and she did a chair dance on stage.  Mary said "straight to Vegas!" but I don't think she meant that Vegas.  Nigel drooled some and asked if he could see it again.  Mia was left speechless.  Nigel thought it was fantastic. But dancing?  Mia called it weak and trashy, but wants to see her in choreography.  Nigel drooled some more and sent her to choreography.

Iveta Lukosuite grew up in Lithuania under Soviet control and has a non-competing partner.  She's very sparkly (and so is he).  She was captivating.  Nigel called her vivacious, and compared her dancing to Pasha and Anya's audition.  Mary thought she was exquisite and choked up some. Mia loves being overwhelmed by talent and called her magical.  Vegas for Iveta!

Choreography round.  Bryan gave up after 15 minutes of the choreography, but he swore to return next year after some lessons.  Stripper girl should also have quit.  She was absolutely dreadful and stiff and unable to do any sort of dancing.

Day 2

Pascal Niyigaziki thinks that he becomes songs and doesn't do the same old moves every day.  He crawled around on the floor for a while and praced around the stage and threw himself down on his back really hard before having a spasm and ripping his shirt to shreds.  Mary cackled to Mia about how now they have a stripper.  The judges spasmed along with him.  Nigel thought his style was bad food poisoning meets tsetse fly bite and then uncontrollable shaking.  Mary asked where he has trained, and he said "where haven't I trained," and he tried to sell himself as a good investment.  Mia asked what his style was, and he said it was hip hop (they said no), then swagger (they said no) before finally settling on Pascal style.  They denied him a trip to Vegas.  He certainly doesn't lack ego.

Montage of couples auditions.

Ashleigh and Ryan Di Lello are married and competed against each other before getting married and partnering on the floor together.  They were quite good.  Mary liked him, but thought that Ashleigh seemed fake and missed magnetism.  Mia thought there was a missing link for Ashleigh, but thought that Ryan was everything.  Nigel agreed with the women, and worried that Ashleigh was performing the chemistry too much instead of feeling it.  To choreography with both of them!

Josh Murillo and Leigh Asey have only been partners for 2 weeks.  She's auditioned before.  I was impressed by their legs and foot work.  She lost a toenail!  The whole thing came off!  Nigel applauded her for nailing it.  Hunky medic came in and bandaged her up.  Her adreneline went down and she was in a lot of pain.  Mia told her she was amazing.  Their two week partnership came together tightly.  They asked Josh to come back for choreography, but gave Leigh her ticket straight to Vegas.  To the hospital with her!

After choreography, Josh was cut.  Ryan was sent through to Vegas.  But is Ashleigh?  Nigel worred that she was twee in places, but sent her through to Vegas anyhow.  Good!

Tomorrow - Vegas!!!  I'm so excited!

Hell's Kitchen: 10.6.09

Are you as happy as I am to see Suzanne gone?

Go One-Handed Dave!

Kevin is pretty sure that he knows everyone's weakness, but can't think of one in himself.  Dave woke up the next morning to give himself a Stuart Smalley pep talk.

In the kitchen, enter mini-Ramsey.  What a kid.  They've got the kid saying "bloody hell," which isn't really appropriate, I suppose, but he was adorable.  Good line about Dave - "Bloody Hell, you've got one arm.  If you were a horse, we would have shot you by now."  Funny stuff.  Enter real Ramsey, to tell them that they have to cook a stunning vegetarian dish for 80 "exacting, difficult, demanding customers" in one hour.  Yipes!

Kevin is making a mushroom crepe over beet carpachio.  Tennille is making a vegetable stuffed eggplant.  Ariel is making a grilled eggplant lasagne.  Dave is making a polenta tower with goat cheese and roasted peppers.

And peppers that he dropped on the ground because of his hand.  He actually retreated into the back room to deal with pain, and went back to do his chopping.

Here come the guests - 80 kids.  Who don't like vegetables.  Ouch.

The kids started chanting about wanting their food, because the cheftestants were not ready with their portions.  Dave called his polenta stacks "sandwiches" and called himself the One-Armed Bandit.

Each chef had a different colored plate.  Lots of spitting out happened.  That makes me sad.  JP brought in  bags full of treats and sweets for the kids, who proceeded to make a horrendous mess of the dining room.  I smell punishment.

Kevin's dish was voted worst by 40% of the kids.  Dave and Tenille got the top two, with Tenille pulling in the win with 55%.  Dave said "Always the bridesmaid, never the bride."

As I predicted, the losers had to pick up the dining room.

Tenille was getting a day in Beverly Hills, sprucing up, and then to Nobu in LA for lunch with Ramsey, which is a famous sushi restaurant.  Tenille screamed at the camera about how much she loves sushi.  I am kind of sick of her yelling.

The other chefs downed Tenille and said that her dish was well suited to children, but not good enough for the Araxi.

Tenille got a 18 karat gold facial.  Wow.

The losers had to scrape gum off of the bottom of tables.  Ariel wisely said that those kids needed a lesson in table manners.  Dave was picking candies out of the mess he swept up.  Love it.

Tenille screamed about how delicious the sushi is.  And now I want sushi.  Great.  Chef Nobu presented her with a set of Henckel's Sushi knives.  Wow.  Kevin drooled over them a little.  I can't blame him.  I think I just wiped my chin.

Prep time, and Tenille had a lot of catching up to do.  She got a nice lunch, and some sweet knives, but missed some really important prep time.

Before dinner service, they got a Ramsey Pep talk, and he wants them to bring passion to the plate as a key ingredient.  Let's see if they do better without Suzanne.

Kevin started things off right with great risotto.  Tenille then brought up badly cooked scallops.  Her next try was perfect.  Dave went to bring up the lamb and had a fit with his hand and dropped it and retreated to the back.

If he has to drop out in the final four, I think I am going to cry.  He thought he was going to faint.  Ramsey brought him to the medic.  He decided to go back and declared that he is not a quitter.

I swear, that man could give birth.

Tenille sent up hideous seabass, with black bits all over it.  Try again.  He called it "panic cooked."  The kitchen came to a stand still.  She then sent up completely raw halibut.  Come. On.  Ridiculous.  I could see it was raw.  How could she not see it?  The other chefs tried to get some communication from her and failed completely.  She told them 2 minutes, and they all went for it with their parts, and then she told Ramsey 6 minutes.  Dave had cut his lamb, so she completely screwed him, too.  She finally got it right and the dishes flew out of the kitchen for a complete service.

Ramsey told Dave that he is seriously concerned about his wrist, but Dave told him that he is fine, and he doesn't want Ramsey to take him out because of that, and only wants to leave if Ramsey doesn't think he is a good enough chef.  Without much ado, Ramsey told Tenille that she was gone.  It was the right decision.

The final 3 were enjoying a beer together when they got called back down to the kitchen.  Ramsey told Dave that he was still thinking about whether he made the right decision keeping Dave... commercial break of doom ... and Ramsey said he was sure that he did make the right decision.

As a reward for being in the top 3, Dave's fiance and sister, Ariel's fiance and mother, and Kevin's wife and son entered.  Happiness and joy!!

I reiterate - I hope that Dave can pull this off and win it.  He's awesome.  I just hope that he hasn't done irreparable damage to his wrist during this ordeal.

Next week, each of them runs the pass.  This could be very good.
