Project Runway - A Note
During the Olympics, I won't be able to blog Project Runway. I'm watching it, but I'm staying up too late watching the Olympic coverage, so... I'll get back to it later.

Project Runway - 1.28.10
Heidi sends the designers to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to meet Tim. There are 10 iconic looks around them from a collection at the Met. It's a team challenge - 2 to a team - to create a high end look that would fit in. They have an amazing $500 (the highest ever for a challenge) and 2 days. Jay, Jesus, Anthony, Mila, Jeanine, Ping, and Emilio are team leaders.
Jay chose Maya, Jesus chose Amy, Anthony chose Seth Aaron, Jeanine chose Ben, Mila chose Jonathan, and Ping chose Jesse. Emilio got Anna by default.
They got to look at the classic pieces to reflect and get inspired.
Back to Parson's to sketch! I predict disaster from Ping and JC. At Mood, the designers are excited about using expensive fabric, and Ping lost her sketch book, and then nearly lost the money. Yup. I predict disaster.
Back at the workroom, Ping and Jesse are still butting heads. He said he feels like he is just trying to reign in the crazy, and tells her he's not doubting the vision, he's just hoping there is one. Yup.
Anthony and Seth Aaron were using bright yellow, red, and black, and Anthony said he thought they might be designing for the head of McDonald's, but hey, everyone needs a dress.
Time for Tim's Gather-Round. And a bomb shell - they need to create a look for less, using only $50, derived from the look of another team. He told them to make sure it was derivaton and not plagarism. Ping chose Emilio's look, Jeanine chose Mila's, Ben chose Anthony, Anthony chose Jesus, and Jesus chose Ping. Emilio got Jay's. 20 minutes to sketch, then one team member goes to Mood for the $50 fabric.
The fabric that Ping brought back, Jesse called it "hooker shiny something." Yup. Disaster.
Anthony and Seth Aaron also aren't working together, though Anthony conceded that "slapping the hell out of Seth Aaron isn't the best way to get the result."
Enter the models.
Ping feels like Jesse doesn't take her seriously as a model. Agreed. With reason.
Tim came in for a look see. He urged Jay and Maya to keep it simple. He thought that the fabric Ping picked out for the second look was like cheap wrapping paper. Wow. No other really big problems. Jonathan is nervous because he has a lot of work left to do, and Mila has only worked on the jacket for the most part. Jay was kind of slacking because he has immunity. Jonathan worries that Mila would sell him out, and admits that he would sell her out in a second. She says that whole outfit was her vision.
Enter the models for hair, make-up, and thoughtful accessories.
Runway Show
Joining Heidi, Michael, and Nina on the judge's panel is British designer, Matthew Williamson. I adore Heidi's dress.
Anthony & Seth Aaron: Signature look - interesting, not fantastic. A little barbie for me. Look for Less -Looked like a cocktail dress from the 80's. Did not like it.
Jesus & Amy: Signature look - the fabric looks a little like camoflague, but I really dig the shape of it. Look for Less - Their pants were like harem pants, and I officially hate them.
Mila & Jonathan: Signature look - I am not fond of the pants. It looks like a tracksuit with a huge weird jacket. Look for Less - It was a little too plagaristic I think, right down to the feathery lacey detailing, but it was cute. I like yellow, so I'm biased. The babydoll dres was stupid, though.
Janeane & Ben: Signature look - It's a simple black dress, but really well done I think. It fits the model very well and I like the subtle panels. Look for Less - I like it better than the Tracksuit original.
Emilio & Anna: Signature look - The dress was really gorgeous. I love the shape of it and the fabric was really pretty. Look for Less - Love this dress. So cute.
Jay & Maya: Signature look - Love the shape of it, and the growth on the shoulder didn't bug me as much as shoulder growths sometimes do. It looked like layers of shale or something. Really interesting and well done. Look for Less - Cute, but nothing much.
Ping & Jesse: Signature look - Ok, it came out really nicely. The dress (by Jesse) probably would have been better without Ping's weird ass drapey thing, though. Look for Less - eh. Didn't look well sewn particularly or interesting.
Janeane & Ben, Jesus & Amy, and Emilio & Anna were middle of the pack safe.
Anthony & Seth Aaron and Ping & Jesse have the lowest scores, and are temporarilly dismissed to make way for talking to the top tier.
Jay said that immunity didn't matter to him. Michael thought their $46 version was more interesting and more beautiful than the $500 version.
Of course the judges love the tracksuit that I hated. Of course. The judges weren't in love with the look for less, and Michael wasn't fond of the babydoll dress. Thanks.
Nina worried that the drapey thing on Ping & Jesse's look was a tail, and Michael said she would have to stand like the statue of liberty to wear it. The judges called their look for less and ill fitting grey dress, that's it. Jesse said that he did all of the sewing and had to teach Ping to sew. The model in the look for less said that Ping never saw her in the dress at all.
Michael thought that Anthony's dress was Southern Cotillion gone wrong. Michael thought the look for less was an acetate cocktail dress gone wrong, and thought that the dresses were both really ugly.
In the end, Jonathan was safe, and Mila and the tracksuit won. Boo. Whatever. It was at least well made, I'll give it that. I just hated it. Maya and Jay were also safe. Seth Aaron was slapped on the wrist, but was safe. Jesse joined him in safety. I hope that Ping is gone because Anthony is more amusing. And, in fact, the disaster that is Ping is cut. Thank goodness. She was only mildly interesting for a couple episodes. I will not miss her.

Project Runway - 1.21.10
Jesus was not happy to find himself in the bottom 3. The designers are woken up early. They are excited for their first trip to the actual Mood store.
Heidi (so cute and preggers) announced that they are going on an "out there" field trip, to show what they are made of. It's a day on the farm! All the models were with Tim, wearing potato sacks. So... no Mood then?
They will be making a party worthy look out of potato sacks. The models actually are their clients, and they are going to be wearing the designs to an industry event, and they get to choose their designers.
I don't know anyone well enough to care who is getting chosen. I think that most of the models kept their original designers. Alexis switched to Anthony from Mila, though. Alison picked Amy after losing Anthony. Valeria chose Jeanine and Mila was the last chosen.
They went shopping at the "farm stand," full of embellishments, for 15 minutes.
Back to the workroom, and to the HP sponsored tablets for sketching! Tim warned them to not loose sight of their own visions. They have until midnight that night. Mila is pissed at not being picked by her previous model and puts the bitch on.
Sewing madness!
Anne Marie was doing potato print dying. I kind of love it.
Tim's check in! He loved how Pamela dyed the burlap, but worried about her skirt design. He wrinkled his nose at Mila's dress, and the tulle that her model loved. He worried that Jay was going to run out of time to do elaborate trim. He found Ping intriguing, but worried about the length of the skirt and the runway making it vulgar. He loved Amy's dip dying treatment but worried she might lose herself in the model's request. Jesus' burlap is completely disappearing under ribbons, and that's not what the challenge is.
Enter the models! Ping's model agreed that she hoped to have her buttocks covered. Emilio's model was super crazy.
It's the morning of the Runway show, and there is still a lot of sewing going on. Tim arrived to give them the 2 hour warning to get hair, make-up, accesorizing, and all the sewing done...
Ping's dress has an "ass flap." It's something else, that's for sure.
Models were getting sewn into their dresses. It was a mad rush at the end.
Runway Show
Joining Heidi (who is not in a potato sack, but a maternity tunic that could be made out of a shiny one perhaps...), Michael, and Nina, is Lauren Hutton. Cool.
Anthony's dress is pretty awesome and red/dark pink. It had a great and flattering shape and you'd never guess it was burlap.
Ping's dress is an unflattering box around the hips. It didn't move. He butt was hanging out. It was awful.
Ben's dress was dark pink, too. The model didn't work it very much, in my opinion, and I think it was a little 80's.
Mila's dress had a neat metallic detailing panel and I liked it. She left off the tulle and that was a good choice.
Anna Marie's potato printed burlap ended up looking kind of gold.
Jesse did [ants and a vest and I hated it.
Seth Aaron made a dress with a weird button on hood... eh.
Amy's dress was really neat. I liked the dip dye. She looked like a fairy.
Janeane's dress was a litte weird in places, but pretty neat.
Jay's dress was really short, but kind of fun.
Emilio's dress was really neat, and I loved the red.
Jesus's dress had no exposed burlap, and athough it was pretty, I think it might bite him.
Jonathan's dress looked like a nightie.
Maya's dress was weird and ruffley.
Pamela's dye job was neat. The back was not very well fitted, though.
Pamela, Mila, Ping, Jesus, Jay, and Amy are the top and the bottom.
Jay is up first. The skirt, which I thought was feathers, was actually burlap! Very cool. Pamela's dress was too short and too tight, and the judges didn't think it was very flattering. Her model was uncomfortable in it. Milla's dress was a favorite of Heidi and Nina, but Michael thought it was gapping. Ping worried that the color of the burlap was too close to the model's skin color. The bigger problem was the fact that her model's ass was hanging out. Jesus' bodice is potato sack, but the ribbon sewn together was akin to cheating. Lauren thought it was a confused assault on the eye. Amy is so much shorter than her model it's almost comical. Her dress was flirty and feminine and the judges loved it.
In the end, Amy was safe, and Jay was the winner. Though I loved Milla's dress, I actually am happy to see Jay win, because of his use of the burlap. Ping is in, too... to bare an ass another day! It's between Pamela and Jesus for the auf. In the end, it's Pamela's time to go, and Jesus gets another chance. Though her dye job was beautiful, I can't disagree with the decision. Her dress made her model look huge, and you know that wasn't the case. Pamela left with tears and love for everyone.
Goodness - next week is duo week. Ugh. Someone has to work with Ping. not pretty.

Yay for a New Season - Project Runway 1.14.10
Back in NYC!
Intros - Seth Aaron has spikey hair and has some neat things in his portfolio.
Janeane is from Portland, OR. I am not entirely sure about her portfolio, but she was in tears about being in NYC.
Ping is a Physical therapist and a fashion designer. Her designs look a little cuckoo.
Ben is from Tampa and likes comic books.
Anthony is from Georgia and has ambitions to design pageant gowns.
Jay is from San Francisco and he has a mullet hawk.
Pamela is older (47) and worked in advertising until recently. I really do like her portfolio.
Anna is a youngin and she could be one of the models. She's straight out of fashion school, seemingly.
Jonathan also has a mohawk going on. He does hand painting and kind of like it.
Jesse was an actor at Disney, playing Jack Sparrow (he looked good).
Mila was a costume designer for about the past dozen years.
Maya is punk inspired.
Christine lived in the Ivory Coast.
Jesus is another one with huge man hair.
Emilio speaks Spanish.
Amy is Iranian in heritage.
Roof top toast time with Heidi and Tim! Heidi did not partake in the champagne because she was pregnant during filming.
The next day, they are to meet Tim in Central Park for the first Challenge details!
Gorgeous fabric was strewn all over the park (from Mood, natch). For the challenge, they have to embody who they are as designers. They have 3 minutes from the word go to gather all the fabric they can before heading to the workroom.
Mad dash of insanity.
Tim then gave them the twist - editing. They all had to pick only 5 fabrics from their stashes to use.
Time for Parsons! Also, time for Product Placement - HP Touchsmart Notebooks, which they can use to sketch on if they choose. Each designer gets their designated model's measurements, and they have the rest of that day, and a little time the next day to finish their looks.
Ping is the first one to act crazy - she likes to drape her designs on herself. Interesting.
Tim sent in the models and they had 30 minutes. Jesus' dress had a train that was attached to the bottom of a miniskirt, and it looked stupid, in my opinion.
When it came time for Tim's check in, Christiane isn't sure if her dress is out there enough. Tim told her to finish it impeccably. Ping was wrapped in her own fabrics, and Tim was concerned. Seth Aaron had stupid zippers. Jeanine was using a bad fabric for her dress, because it was all puckered... Anthony's dress wasn't working for him, nor was it working for Tim. Jesus had to lengthen his dress, and the construction disturbed Tim. Emilio only had an unfinished top, and Tim worried that he would become the first ever not to finish. (I think Tim is forgetting the sheer piece of fabric that went down the runway draped on a model last season...)
On the day of the Runway show, chaos reigned in the workroom. Tim entered and sent in the models, giving them an hour for fitting, hair, make-up, and accessories.
Runway Show
Yay for Michael, Nina, and Heidi, joined by Nicole Richie.
Jonathan's dress is really neat. I like the bodice a lot and the back cutout was interesting.
Seth Aaron's dress looked like it was a picnic blanket with a pair of suspender attached to it. Weird.
Jesus sent down a very slinky snakey dress (he opted out of the mini-dress). I'm not sure about the train, but I like his model.
Ben's dress included huge pointy shoulders, which I don't see as a good look for anyone.
Jay sent down what could be a cute outfit, but I question a giant bow right on the bellybutton.
Pamela's dress was super pink, which I don't like, but I liked the cut.
Emilio's dress was kind of awesome. I loved his fabric and his cut.
Jesse's dress was interesting. The zip off top was neat, but I liked it much better with the plain red top underneath.
Ping's look was nutty.
Chritiane's dress was kind of rumpled in places, but I liked the blue.
Amy's dress was weird. I thought the top looked like she forgot to put on a top.
Jeanine's dress was kind of neat in the end.
Mila's coat was neat, and she used patterns really interesting.
Anthony's dress fabric was awesome, but I don't know any woman who would ask for a dress with a huge ass bow on the hip.
Anna's dress was cuyte and shimmery. I liked it.
Maya's dress featured a giant cascade of oversized rosettes on the shoulder. I do not generally like that look.
Amy, Anna, Ben, Jeanine, Jay, Jesse, Jonathan, Maya, Mia, and Pamela were all deemed safe (in alphabetical order I might add)
For the critiques.
Anthony's dress - Michael thought that it looked like an amalgam of weird dresses, and didn't like the hip thing. Nicole didn't think the back looked like it fit well.
Seth Aaron's dress - he called it "Little Tokyo" and he had a story for it. Nicole thought he committed and she liked it. Michael and Nina loved the back.
Ping's dress - Nicole thought it was great. Nina thought the hanger appeal was missing, and thought the model looked uncomfortable.
Jesus' dress - Heidi didn't know how fashionable it was, and Michael thought a huge crocodile trunk exploded. Nina thought she looked like a Hershey Chocolate Bar. Heidi noticed the seem where he changed it from a mini skirt and didn't appreciate it.
Christiane's dress - Nina liked the draping, but not the fabrics, and the hem was not finished.
Emilio's dress - Michael thought it was deceptively simple. Heidi loved the weaving effect. Nina liked the technical work, and thought it had a lot of hanger appeal. Nicole loved the silhouette.
Interesting. No super flops.
Well, except for Christiane.
I think Emilio was my favorite. I loved his fabric. Nicole liked Ping's best. Eh.
Ping is the first one safe. Emilio is the winner, and I am very happy. He did a great job. Seth Aaron is safe, as is Anthony.
That means it's down to Christiane and Jesus. Christiane is the first one out, and I think that was the right decision. Her dress was a mess.
What did you think? Any standouts for you? Are you happy that Emilio won?

Project Runway - 11.19.09: Finale!
Poor Carol Hannah is still feeling really sick. Irina basically said "Too bad, so sad," and continued on her bitchy way. At the work room, Logan comisserated with Carol Hannah before going to go work for Althea. Gordana got to work with Irina. Carol Hannah was just in tears. Christopher offered a shoulder to cry on, but then went to work for her. Althea awkwardly suggested that it was time to go for hair and makeup consultations. It went well, with no real drama. Althea and Irina have close eye make-up ideas. Carol Hannah wanted soft and pretty.
Back at the workroom, there were some fittings, and then Tim came for a look see. He worried about Irina's hats looking costumey. Althea's 13th look is a little 80's. He also heard similar make-up ideas from Irina and Althea and was concerned. Althea was in tears. Tim called it a Make It Work Moment. He worried about Carol Hannah's relapse, but she claimed to be feeling ok-ish. Her 13th look is a gorgeous blue color, and I kind of think it could be awesome.
Sewing sewing sewing! The next morning, Carol Hannah seemed to be feeling better, but admitted it was mostly mind over matter. Irina decided to put her Main Model in the 13th look. I hate the hat. I think it is ridiculous.
Tim had a final Gather Round when they had about 15 minutes left. People were stitching to the last second. Irina told Gordana to put all the hats, all the gloves, and all the feathers in one bag, which she would take with her. Off they went, back to their hotel.
The day of the Runway show, they had to get up at 3:15 AM in order to have time to get themselves ready, and then get the models ready. Irina didn't have her muse models look done and she wasn't in hair and makeup done. Then, Irina had a zipper break. Tim was about to lose it because no one was ready to line up when they needed to be. Tim was not happy. That made the designers nervous.
Heidi was looking kind of 80's in a hot pink suit with skinny pants and shoulder pads... I didn't love the look.
Althea was out first, and she was dressed in a really cute dress, leggings, and... Uggs? Ugh. Not a good choice. She wanted to show what the woman of today would wear tomorrow. Her first look invlved ridiculously long sleeves on a sweater with leather look pants. Her next looks was a simple black dress. The 13th look was not bad. There was a look that had a top that looked stained. I really hate the super long sleeves. It was all kind of weird and awkward to me. There was a green mini dress that I kind of liked, but then came a couple of really badly put together silver dresses. There was a gold dress that her muse model was wearing, and it was kind of slick, but nothing special. An eh collection.
Carol Hannah was next. She's adorable. She didn't talk about the inspiration for her collection, but that's ok. Her first looks was a very interesting gold and black dress, followed by another really neat dress. There was a purple top with braiding and I loved it. The rich purple gown was also fabulous. I really dug the silber poofy bottom dress, and although the silver babydoll top looked kind of maternity, the 13th look was stunning. The red headed model in the gold dress looked uncomfortable, but that can't be blamed ont eh dress. The muse model in the gold gown was gorgeous. Loved the styling of her collection. I think I could see a lot of those gowns on red carpets.
Irina was last. Her collection was about New York. She also had the super long sleeves. Her hats made her models look like Robin Hood. Or horses. The giant sweaters with with hoods were stupid. The 13th look was kind of neat but nothing I loved. I have no idea what she was thinking with the shredded pants. Her gown at the end witht he stupid hat looked hard to walk in and the model didn't look happy. The whole collection was black, with the exception of some knit and fur. I really hated it.
Carol Hannah for the win, in my book! The judges thought that there was variety, fabulous knitwear, and new ideas. I don't know about the fabulous, but there was certainly knitwear...
Michael, Nina, and Heidi are juined by Suzy Menkes, Fashion editor of the International Herald Tribune.
Enter the muse models!
Irina talked up the shielding aspect of her looks. Michael told her that the warrior woman is not a new character on the scene. Heidi thought it was a finished collection. Nina liked the t-shirts. Michael commended her for the work that went into it. Heidi wants to own some of the clothes. Nina didn't like all the black. Michael thought the black would giver her less credit than she deserved. Nina worried that all the black doesn't play well on camera,
Carol Hannah loved draping. Heidi loved the 13th look, and was stunned to hear it was the last look. Suzy loved the upturned pyramid dress, and Carol Hannah called it a showpiece. Heidi didn't know that it was a cohesive collection. Michael loved the structured drapery, but worried there was no connecting thread.
Althea wanted to talk about the future. Michael liked that the collection was sportswear, which you could potentially mix and match. Nina liked the green dress, and Heidi liked the silver strapless top that I hated. Michael loved some khaki pants that I hated - he thought they were flattering. I thought they were kind of like parachute pants.
The judges loved Carol Hannah's use of color. Suzy thought that Althea had good clothes, but didn't showcase them well. Oh, good lord. The judges liked Irina's hats. Michael didn't love her big giant gown.
Carol Hannah is the first one out.
Booooo. Now, I don't really care who wins. I hated both of the other collections. At least Althea had that cool green dress.. Freaking Irina won. Stupid freaking hats and stupid giant sleeves and stupid huge hoods. Gah. I would not wear any of her clothes. None of them. The judges called it sleek, modern, and cohesive. I disagree.
Anyhow, winning won't make Irina any less of a bitch.
Are you as disappointed as I was?
Here's hoping that next season brings some more fun. Don't know when it starts, but I'll be there.

Project Runway - 11.12.09
Finale, Part 1.
The final three each have several months to create 12 pieces, with $9000.
Tim first visited Carol Hannah, who moved from Charleston to Huntington, NY, to her friend's house. She took inspiration from Duke University. She had a very interesting silver thing, and Tim worried that she should edit and not add more stuff. He also worried that a little cape she made was matronly. And she's made pants! I am liking her collection so far. As a surprise for him, her parents and her sister have flown in and want to treat him to a Southern meal, and he gets to help make biscuits. He wears an apron, and it's adorable. She is self taught. I did not know that. Very cool.
He next visited Irina in Manhattan. She has a little poodle named Princess. I am not surprised. She took her inspiration from Coney Island. She has t-shirts she's made to go under her looks, big, tacky t-shirts. I'm not so sure about that idea. Tim likes that she is taking risks. He urged her to make sure her things look natural and not forced. Can I say, I really don't like a lot of her stuff. Mostly, it looks like stuff you could wear on Hoth. She brought him out to dinner with her family and friends.
Lastly, it's time to visit Althea in Dayton, Ohio, traveling to her workroom in a service elevator and looking nervous about it. Her inspiration is sci-fi movies. He worried that some of her things are too costumey and old, and urged her to edit and keep true to herself. She brought him to her parent's house to meet family and friends. She got a sewing machine for Christmas in 5th grade, at her own request.
10 Days before Fashion Week, Irina got a call from Tim, and she doesn't have the rights to use the Coney Island images on her t-shirts, because they are images from someone else. Ooooops.
And, Bwah ha ha, because I don't particularly like her.
Time for the designers to return for Fashion Week. Irina and Althea are still having some tense moments. Althea doesn't forgive Irina for saying that she stole her design. Where is Carol Hannah? She's got a terrible, contagious stomach virus, according to Tim. Oh no! Well, at least there is champagne from Heidi. Poor Carol Hannah!
4 days before the Runway show, they get to the workroom. Just the two of them. And then, Carol Hannah showed up! She spent the entire previous day throwing up (15 hours, according to her), but she is back to work. She stayed as far away from the others as possible.
Time for Tim's collection tour.
Althea had a sparkly jacket that Tim thought looked really grandmothery. I would agree. It looked like something my grandmother wore in the 80's. On special occasions. Althea spent a lot of time knitting. Tim worried about her cohesion. Irina looked pissed, because you know she invented knits. In fact, Irina accused Althea of copying her. Again. Yug.
Carol Hannah is next, and edited away a gold jacket over a simple gold dress. Tim warned her to keep some youth and get cohesion. I really am loving her long gold dress. Can't wait to see it on the runway.
Irina is numb over her work, and did some burnout and silk screening. Her whole collection was black and gray, but mixing materials. She also made some leather pants that Tim thought looked like chaps. Irina worried about her finale dress, and Tim thought the look itself was not cohesive. I think Tim almost had an aneurism.
Time for model casting. There was minimal fighting over girls and everyone got their models picked.
Enter ... Nina and Michael! Cool. I don't know what Nina was wearing. It looked like she had giant doily stitches down her front. Anyhow, they were there to give them tips, and reminding them to be themselves, and Nina said that color is something to think about, and warned that an all black collection is hard to pull off. Irina looked like she wanted to pull her hair out.
Enter the final three models! They have to decide what pieces to put on them, because that is the piece that will go back before the judges for the final Q&A.
And then, enter Heidi! There's going to be a twist. As in previous seasons, they have to make a 13th look to fit into their collections. Their muse model will be casting the model for the 13th look. For help, Logan, Christopher, and Gordana are brought in. Althea chose first and got Logan. Irina got Gordana. Carol Hannah got Christopher.
They have 30 minutes to sketch, and $250 at Mood.
I totally love the fabric that Carol Hannah picked for her 13th look. It's a very gorgeous blue.
Oh no! Carol Hannah got back to the hotel and was sick again. Althea was super nice and put ice on the back of her neck.
I hope that Carol Hannah gets better! I totally want her to win, so anything else would make me sad.

Project Runway - 11.5.09
It's time for the final challenge before Bryant Park! Irina and Althea are on the outs because Irina accused Althea of copying her. Christopher is all by himself in the men's dorm, and is lonely. Gordana wants to maker her country proud.
For their last challenge in LA, they are sent to meet Tim at the Getty Center, which is apparently the heart of LA culture. The mayor of LA was there with him. Their challenge is to create a design using the Getty Center as inspiration. They have 2 days, after a 30 minute tour, a 30 minute sketching, and then their final trip to Mood. As a special treat, their models are joining them, to serve as muses.
Back in the workroom, Althea is feeling left out, while Irina and Gordana seem to be new friends, but then they snipe at each other, too.
Tim's check in time! Christopher took his inspiration from a rock fountain, and Tim urged him to keep an editing eye. Carol Hannah is drawing from the fabulous bed, and Tim thought her idea of draping a whole bunch of stuff over the bodice would make it loose the sophistication. Irina was going for fleshy, but Tim was worried that it looked like roadkill, and he called it a Post-Apocolyptic moment. Bwah ha ha. Althea was trying to draw from the architecture, but Tim was troubled by her construction, and called it a panel of puckering. Gordana was drawing from a Monet, and Tim could see it immediately. She broke down crying, telling him that the colors were angelic and she is spiritual and it made a difference to her.
Althea decided to edit away her fur thing, and I'm glad. Althea thought that Gordana's dress was beautiful, but not enough for a final challenge dress.
Runway Time!
Two people are getting cut tonight, according to Heidi. Nina and Heidi are joined by Cindy Crawford! Cool.
Althea's dress was weird. It was not at all flattering and it looked odd on her model.
Carol Hannah's dress was gorgeous and ... just stunning.
Christopher's dress was definitely interesting. Something else.
Gordana's dress was just stunning.
Irina's dress was a shapeless sack and I really hated it.
Althea's dress is called ambitious, and the bottom looked overworked, while the top looked underworked.
Irina took her inspiration from fleshy ladies and wanted to do a goddess gown. Cindy liked the color and the inspiration but hated the shoes. I agree. Heidi had her remove a lot of the accessories, and it did look better. But I still hated it.
Gordana's dress connected perfectly with the painting. Nina worried that she didn't take enough chances. Cindy thought it was wearable. The back was maligned.
Carol Hannah's shoulder got good marks. Nina called it a safe perfection.
Christopher's top was flattering, but the skirt was too stiff for a long dress. I say, his inspiration was ROCK. Why shouldn't it be stiff? Heidi asked him if he is confident in it as his final look on the runway, and he said that this piece says more about him than anything else he's done, because the inspiration was not as obviously beautiful at the outset. He broke into tears and hugged his model.
So, Heidi asked them who should go with each of them to fashion week.
Gordana thought that Irina and Christopher should go to fashion week with her.
Althea thought that Irina and Carol Hannah should go to fashion week with her.
Carol Hannah thought that Christopher and Gordana should go with her.
Irina pulled the heart strings, too, playing the immigrant's dream. She wanted Althea and Gordana to go with her to fashion week.
Christopher thinks that Irina and Carol Hannah should go with him to fashion week.
Irina is heading to fashion week. Christopher is the first one to leave, and Heidi gave him kind words about seeing beauty in the unusual before giving him the auf. Carol Hannah was the second one going to fashion week. I am supremely disappointed when Althea is sent to fashion week and Gordana was sent home. I really don't like Althea's aesthetic so much.

Project Runway - 10.22.09
The pre-Heidi spot included Carol Hannah being sad to see Shirin go, and Nicolas playing with his limp nasty hair and declaring his own awesomeness.
Heidi met the designers on the Runway and I love her earrings. They are going on a road trip with Tim to Rodeo Drive, where they will meet with someone who is famous around the world.
Rodeo Drive always reminds me of Pretty Woman.
They meet Tim at Michael Kors West Coast Flagstore, and Michael himself showed them photos of the locations that inspire his designs. They will design fashions inspired by famous locales.
Carol Hannah, for winning the previous challenge, chose Palm Beach.
Tim pulled names for others.
Nicolas chose Greece.
Althea chose St. Tropez.
Gordana chose NYC.
Irina chose Aspen.
Christopher chose Santa Fe
Logan was left with Hollywood.
They have 30 minutes to sketch, $150 at Mood, and until the end of the day to create their looks.
Back at the workroom, Irina got pissy because the other designers were joking and having fun.
Tim arrived for the look-see, and Gordana was working on a necklace instead of making a dress. Nice necklace, but... Tim thought that Althea's muslin start was pretty good. He warned her to watch her proportions. Christopher was too cliche for Tim, and he warned him to take care with his main pieces. Irina bitched to camera about Christopher's style. Carol Hannah's dress was also a bit cliche for Tim. He warned her to make it hers. Nicolas again was working in freaking white. Tim told him to keep proportion, tayloring, and fit in mind. Logan's look was a comfortable style, and Tim warned him to be cohesive and wow everyone. Irina was last. Her pants are done, and they are pretty cool, but I don't love the zippers on the lower hips. The giant cowl neck was a bit scary. Those models aren't very big. She could get eaten alive.
Did Nicolas just dis Irina's look by saying it looked too much like a costume for a film, and he's not into that? He could have fooled me!
Irina bitched some more about how awesome she is and how sucky everyone else is.
Nicolas was upset because his top draping looked like Grecian Goddess and he was absolutely not going for that. Because he had Greece. Christopher took a look at his garment and realized it was Little House on the Prairie, and cut a whole bunch off the skirt. Let's see if he can make it work.
Love fest back at the loft. Althea's hair is looking very Farrah. Everyone loves each other and everyone's a great designer. Unless you ask Irina. They didn't.
In the morning, silent panic, according to Carol Hannah. They have 2 hours with models for fitting, hair, and makeup etc.
I am suddenly annoyed by Christopher's face framing beardish thing.
Runway
The judges tonight are Heidi, Michael Kors (of course), Nina Garcia, and Milla Jovovich, just because. She's apparently also a designer.
Logan's Hollywood look was really generic and I didn't like the suspenders. Yes. I just said suspenders.
Althea's look included hot gold shorts. I kind of liked it.
Nicolas' look was really bland. The sleeves were too long and it was nothing special. Blah.
Carol Hannah's dress was kind of cute, and I liked the detail in back. It was see through, though.
Christopher's dress was really sweet on, and I really liked the belt.
Irina's pants were good, and the cowl was neat, but the coat was weird and not needed unless she was getting cold because of the cutout in the back of the sweater.
Gordana's necklace was really neat. The dress was cute, but not too crazy interesting.
Althea repeated her middle of the road from last week and she was safe.
Irina's outfit was lauded by many. Michael thought it was literal 80's Aspen with a twist. Heidi called her pants impeccable.
Christopher's belt was interesting, but the rest of the outfit was called uninspired.
Carol Hannah's print was a good thing. Nina loved the detail in the top. Milla would live in the dress. Michael thought it could be worn with flip flops or with serious jewelry.
Nicolas's journey to Greece was unsucessful. Blah.
Gordana's dress was called quite beautiful. Heidi loved the necklace. Michael called it very Park Avenue.
Logan was inspired by Lindsay Lohan or Mary Kate Olsen. Ugh. The judges thought they could have been cooler. Michael said it was clothes, not fashion. Milla wanted him to spray paint the pants or something similarly wild.
In the discussion, Milla said if it was called Project "I Didn't Mind It," Logan would win. Bwah ha ha.
Carol Hannah was the first one sent to safety. Irina was the winner, because she made such a luxe look for so little money. That may be, but she's still a bitch. Gordana was also safe. Heidi told her to have confidence and sell her designs and stop selling herself short on the runway. Heidi warned Logan, Christopher, and Nicolas that while they are very talented, they all need to pump up the volume. Logan was safe.
Nicolas missed the mark and ignored the location assignment. Christopher's design was wishy washy and lacking the dream. Still, Christoper is safe, and Nicolas and his greasy hair, white passion, and high attitude of himself are out.
Milla Jovovich was really cute and said that she doesn't know how the regular judges do it, and looked like she was going to cry.
Next week, the designers are horrified by their challenge, someone makes something that Tim thinks is waiting for a diaper, and Althea thinks that Logan is reuising her collar from the Christina Aguillera challenge. Fun lies ahead!

Project Runway - 10.15.09
Heidi introduced the designers to their next challenge. She told them if they really want to shine, their look must upstage the rest. She sent them to meet Tim and a special guest at an undisclosed location, and reminded them that there is no immunity from here on out (although Gordana has immunity for this one).
They went to the Fashion museum and met Tim with Bob Mackie, king of Sequins. They will be creating an extravagant stage look. Bob reminded them that this is not normal design, and told them to just go for it. They will be designing a look for Christina Aguillara.
To Mood with them and looting for shimmer and shine. They have $300, which is lots more than normal, but shummery fabric sometimes cost more... They have 2 days.
Carol Hannah got a lot of random fabric and seemed to be playing with Logan's fur instead of actually working. Gordana's fabric was shedding beads like crazy. It's a shame because it was looking pretty cool before the beading debacle. The next day, there was more scrambling. Shirin was making something that looked like a ball gown. Nicolas thought his look was like a skating look.
Tim came for his look see and worried that Christopher's outfit should have been super slut instead of 90's prom, and thought they were both prim. Althea also had a reveal planned, and Tim worried that they thought they both envisioned her coming out of a pumpkin. Gordana has a lot to do, and Tim worried that Nicolas' look is too much of a re-do of his Ice Princess look. Nicolas is the king of white frilly. Carol Hannah was thinking of doing a reveal, but Tim told her that it looked fine. He thought that Shirin's looked like student work, vampira meets 16 year old prom.
More work, and enter the models. Shirin changed hers up a lot and it looked better for a start. Logan thinks that Carol Hannah is fun and an unorthodox Southern Belle. Flirty flirty flirty.
Irina has a high opinion of herself and a low opinion of everyone else. It's annoying. Even annoying Nicolas is annoyed by her.
Runway Show
Joining Heidi are Bob Mackie, Nina Garcia, and Christina Aguilera.
Althea's dress is neat and long and slinky with lots of silver, kind of liquid.
Logan's look was short and sassy and I kind of liked it.
Shirin's look was absolutely not a stage look.
Christopher's look was really kind of neat, I thought, for the stage. The reveal brought sparkly hot pants. Slick.
Nicolas' looked just like so many others. Yawn.
Gordana's look was totally badly sewn and I think she's lucky to have immunity.
Irina's was way too short and ice dancer to me. I did not like it.
Carol Hannah's is long and black and mixed sequins with feathers really well. I loved how it moved. Not sure it was a good stage outfit.
Irina was middle of the road, and Gordana was also sent to safety (but was told she was lucky to have immunity).
Christina loved Carol Hannah's look, and Nina called it glamorous, but wished it had come off into something sexier. Carol Hannah told her that she tried that, but thought it looked too ice skater-y. The judges agreed it was better as it is, and loved the textures of black she used.
Heidi called Shirin's look a bad witch halloween costume. Christina worried she would trip in it. The bottom of it was the mess.
Althea's use of back and front sides of the fabric was clever. Heidi liked the way her bum looked. Nina didn't like the train for logistic reasons. Christina thought it was a beautiful dress.
Heidi wasn't loving Christopher's revealed look, and Nina worried it was a revisit of Lady Marmelade. Bob Mackie didn't think the corset was well done, and wouldn't put it on a chorus girl. Christina gave him E for Effort.
Christina liked Nicolas' outfit. Bob thought it needed just a little something else.
Logan wanted to create a punk rock princess outfit. The judges worried there should have been more chains. Christina was getting cave woman, but liked the color. The lining of his green dress is pink, but it was not shown, and the judges wished there had been more of that drama.
In the end, Carol Hannah won the challenge and I am thrilled. So was she. Nicolas and Logan were also safe. It was between Shirin and Christopher. Let's see if Christopher's got more tears for us.... not tonight. It's Shirin that's out. I think it was the right choice. I still like Christopher.

Project Runway - 10.9.09
Heidi met the designers on the Runway, and brought out their new models - brides! In gowns!
The models are recently divorced, and want to turn their wedding dresses into "hip, cool, outfits" that they can wear in their single lives.
This seems rather awful. Some of the ladies have been divorced for over a decade, but others have only been in proceedings for a couple months. Kind of ... wrong. I don't know.
The designers chose their models. The women with the most yardage went first. Shirin was left with the last pick - a dress with nothing added onto it.
While they played with their fabric and their sketches, Tim told them that the last Immunity of the show is up for grabs. And it's a one day challenge. He sent in the divorcees. Nicolas' model wants only cruelty free fabric. Shirin's crazy model wants a Cher costume with a headdress. Shirin didn't like that idea so much. Time brought them to Mood, and they have $25, and up to 2 yards of fabric and other things they need.
Gordana had a phone call home and did some crying. Shirin hated her dress and her model's wishes. She looked about ready to cry right with Gordana. Some people tried dying their fabric.
Enter Tim. He is instantly worried about Christopher, and worried that the model wanted to look like a Cougar. He is impressed with Irina's dye job. He thought that Epperson's look was a little lab coaty. Logan's look was also worrisome to Tim. Gordana did another nice dye job, and Tim liked it. Other designers laughed as Shirin explained to Tim what her model wanted. He reminded her that she is the one who is in danger of going home, not the model. Tim actually put his arm around her and reassured her, and told her to play with the textiles and just be liberated.
The divorcees came in for another fitting. Shirin's model had kind of a snotty attitude. Shirin admitted that she didn't care so much, but just wanted to do something that she could be proud of.
The next morning, the designers are off to put the finishing touches on their looks. When the models came in, some loved their new looks, and others (like Shirin's) just can't stop complaining. Nicolas hates his own look, but his model likes it.
The actual models got to teach the divorcees how to walk. Interesting.
Runway
Michael Kors, Zanna, and Tamara Mellon joined Heidi as judges.
Irina's dress was so much better than the acetate mess she started with.
Shirin's dress was interesting, because she didn't have much to work with. She ended up doing stitching in a dark color to make a design on it, and I liked it. Her (annoying) divorcee rocked the runway. The back did not look well fitted.
Logan's look was something. I did not like the way the pants fit at all.
Carol Hannah's model had a great walk, and she really worked with the tulle.
Althea's look was really cute, and you would never guess it originated as a wedding dress.
Nicolas thinks that he created a hideous thing. The pants were a nice color, but I kind of agree with him.
Gordana's dress was really neat. Very different from the original.
Christopher's dress was kind of space age, but I will never like anything related to a bubble dress.
Epperson's dress looked much better when the little jacket came off, but it was still kind of... eh.
Carol Hannah, Nicolas, and Althea are safe.
Gordana's dress got rave reviews. She only used the lining from the wedding dress. The judges loved it, and so did the divorcee.
Christopher's fabric choice was called inventive, but Michael thought it looked like a metallic hefty bag, cinched. Not good.
Epperson's dress was called Oktoberfest by Heidi, and Pirate Wench by another. Not good.
Shirin explained what her model wanted, and Heidi was glad that she didn't listen. Shirin's stitching was a really good idea. Very nice.
Logan's trousers and vest also reminded Heidi of Oktoberfest. The execution was called amateur, and the cuffs were totally not ok. One of the judges called it a tragedy.
The judges were impressed by Irina's dress, and they loved the color. Heidi called it unbelievable.
Shirin is safe. Gordana won the challenge. Cool. Good for her. Irina is also safe, as is Christoher.
It's between Logan and Epperson, who are sadly two of the normally most talented designers in the competition. In the end, it was Epperson going home. All of the Logan-loving models just squealed. Poor Epperson. He was so good in so many ways. Just not this week.

Project Runway 10.1.09
The remaining designers are sad to see Ra'Mon gone. Logan is a little uncomfortable moving in with Epperson, Christopher and Nicolas. Gordana thinks that all of the designers are like Olympic athletes and they are all great. Not so sure about that, necessarily...
Heidi meets the designers and tells the that their challenge will be colorful, and sends them to Tim in the workroom. Martine from Macy's joined Tim, and told them that their challenge is about blue, and has to fit into the Ink brand, Macy's exclusive. They have to do two looks, and the winner gets to design a holiday dress for the Ink line. They will be working in teams, and it's a one day challenge.
They have 15 minutes to sketch, and they will pitch to Martine, who will pick 5 team leaders.
The team leaders are Irina, Althea, Carol Hannah, Christopher, and Louise.
Althea chose Logan to work with her. Christopher chose Epperson. Louise chose Nicolas. Irina chose Gordana. Carol Hannah and Shirin were the final team.
The Mood budget is $100. For each team? Or each person? I think it's per team. Everyone seemed stressed and crazed. Louise lost her money envelope. She found it (and her drawing) without too much drama, but it's crazy.
Back at the work room, Carol Hannah doesn't like delegating. Gordana and Irina are not getting along so well, either, and Irina is worried about having to do both her work and watching Gordana's work. Nicolas is doing Louise's dress with tuxedo ruffles, and he thinks ruffles are heinous. (He goes more for the lace, obviously). Epperson is pleased to be working with Christopher. Louise makes strange bird like noises when she's working.
Tim arrived to peruse the work. Tim doesn't like Carol Hannah's leggings idea. I love Tim. Tim was excited by the potential of Team Louise's looks. He approved of Team Althea's modern non-stereotypical suit. He worried that Team Irina didn't have a clear direction. Team Christopher's shirt dress gave Tim a textile conundrum. And I love the word conundrum. He thinks that they have a chance to reinvent the shirt dress. Nice. He sends in the models. There is still lots of work to be done. Nicolas again lets his disdain for ruffles be known.
The next day, final adjustments got made. Gordana worried that Irina was going to throw her on the bus. That's right.
I bet Heidi wasn't wearing Ink at the Runway show. It looked like a nightshirt. Not her best look.
Runway Show
Michael is back, with Zana from Marie Claire, and Martine.
Irina's patchwork dress didn't look blue, and it's supposed to be blue. I kind of like the dress that Gordana worked on.
Althea's first dress ended up drifting up the ass. The second look had some great pants, but the top needed a bra. Heidi isn't going to like it.
Louise's first look had crazy ruffles/rosettes. Not good. The second look with the hated ruffles was not bad.
Carol Hanna's looks were really cute. I still hate the leggings.
Christopher's shirt dress had potential but didn't deliver. I wish it wasn't so shimmery. The bubble shirt was weird around the neck and not blue.
Althea and Logan are safe, and Heidi didn't even say anything about the need for a bra or the drifting skirt.
Louise and Nicolas and Christopher and Epperson are in the bottom.
Carol Hannah and Shirin were told that they interpreted the brand well. Both tops got props. I liked them a lot.
Irina and Gordana admitted it was a challenge working together. Irina wanted Gordana to step up for herself. Heidi loved the patchwork dress. Martine and Zana also loved the dress. Michael loved the pattern usage.
Now, for the bottom two teams.
Heidi didn't like the crazy ruffles by Louise. The rosette dress was a mess. Michael called it a shower curtain with loofah's rouched up the front. Heidi told Nicolas he is lucky to have immunity.
Heidi didn't think that Christopher's looks were modern. Heidi also hated the bib in the second look. Michael didn't think that the looks went together at all, and he thought the shirt dress was cliche.
Shirin was safe, and Irina was the winner of the challenge. The judges just loved her looks. I was not a huge fan, but that's ok, I guess. Gordana and Carol Hannah were also sent to safety, as was Epperson. Nicolas had immunity, so she was safe.
It's between Louise (bad, overworked bridesmaid's dresses, according to Heidi) and Christopher's "clueless" designs. In the end, it was Louise who was gone. But is Christopher safe? He is, and there were more tears.
I think the right person went home. And what do you think?
Irina's Holiday design was shown at the end, and it was pretty cool.

Project Runway 9.24.09
The men don't miss Johnny much, saying that the competition will be more serious now that he is gone.
Heidi looks fabulous on the runway, and she told the designers that they would be doing something with movie making for their next challenge. Tim met them at Stage 6, and told them that they would be drawing film genres out of a bag, and create a character's outfit to live in that genre.
Nicolas and Gordana are scared of getting Western.
Irina chose her own because she won and chose film noir.
Logan chose action/adventure, as did Carol Hannah.
Ra'Mon chose sci-fi.
Louise chose film noir.
Althea picked film noir.
Gordana chose period piece
Nicolas chose sci-fi
Christopher chose period piece
That means that Shirin and Epperson are stuck with Western.
Each designer has a dossier for their cinematic genre, 30 minutes to sketch, $150 at Mood, and only until midnight!
Shirin and Epperson both seemed to be going towards women's Western outfits. Shirin goes saloon girl. Epperson goes higher class.
Logan and Carol Hannah bonded over their sketches.
Ra'Mon was super excited about getting his Borg on. Nicolas loves how awesome he is in his own mind.
Nicolas has a whole story of a queen who wants to rule the universe from Orion's Belt. Ra'Mon is doing something for a human-alien hybrid, and he's dying again. Louise has a missing bobbin, and screams sabotage.
Tim's check in started with Gordana, and urged her to make her back lower cut. Christopher's concept is a 1800's Vampire Bride, and Tim loves everything about it except for the sleevelesness of it. Tim kind of loved Epperson's piece, and said he was seduced by the ruffles. Ra'Mon is doing a jumpsuit. Time said it could be sublime, or a big hot mess. Tim likes Louise's subtlety and nuance, but worried that that doesn't show best on the runway. He wanted Nicolas to exaggerate what he was doing. He told the whole room to be as ambitious as they can be.
Enter models - for fittings and makeup consultations. Product placements for L'oreal!
After fitting, Ra'Mon worried that his jumpsuit looked like Kermit the frog gone wrong. He decided to rework it. His model looked like she wanted to cry. Louise sewed through her finger and soldiered on.
The day of the Runway show, panic ensued. Nicolas pines for a glue gun. They had two hours with their models, who also had to get hair and make-up done. Gordana decided to make some accessories.
Runway Show
John Varvatos, Zoe Glassner, and Arianne Phillips (Oscar nominated costume designer) are on the panel with Heidi.
Irina's film noir dress was kind of fabulous.
Carol Hannah's outfit was kick ass.
Shirin's saloon girl thing was kind of cliche.
Christopher's dress was still sleeveless and I didn't love it.
Nicolas' Sci-fi piece was kind of hot. The hair and makeup worked beautifully with it.
Althea's film noir was really slick. Her model was working it.
Ra'Mon's dress looked like it might fall apart at any moment.
Louise's dress was a bit of a rumpled mess.
Epperson's outfit didn't look very Western to me, but it was well done.
Gordana's flapper dress was really fun!
Logan's battle scarred jumpsuit was pretty fun.
Logan, Carol Hannah, Shirin, and Althea were safe.
The judges liked Gordana's dress, but didn't think it was special. Zoe kind of hit it when she said "I see your hands, but not your eyes." Nicolas's story was amazingly complex, and they loved the drama of it. Louise's film noir character was going for a person from the 40's dressing like she was in the 20's. It was uniformly considered not strong. Christopher's story was of a runaway vampire bride, and the judges thought he had some great detail and wow factor. Ra'Mon's character's name was Lola, and the judges liked the story, but did not like the dress, because it looked like something out of Swamp Thing. Heidi called it a hot green mess. He admitted that he had to change his design at the last minute. Epperson sold his character and he managed to do something that would fit but was still modern and innovative. It helped that his model was kind of slick.
Gordana and Epperson are deemed safe, and Nicolas is the winner. Christopher is also safe. It's between Ra'Mon and Louise to go home. In the end, it was a shocker to me that Ra'Mon is out! I thought for sure Louise's rumpled mess would have been the end of her. At least Ra'Mon took bold chances.

Project Runway 9.17.09
Carol Hannah wears a whole lot of mascara. It's almost frightening. Johnny vows to never be in the bottom 3 again. Good luck with that. Althea wants to keep up the winning. Irina is shocked at Althea's win. So am I, honestly.
Heidi greets the designers looking chic. Tim is going to bring them on a field trip, and "the answers will all be in black and white." Tim brings them to the LA Times building. To the presses! Boothe Moore, the Fashion critic from the Times, explains to them that they have to use pages from the newspaper to create their next look. They have news, business, sports, calendar, and image sections. Nicolas hates it, because I don't think he has ever seen the show before, and doesn't get that wonky challenges are part of it. They have three minutes and a plastic bag to get as much paper as they can get.
In the workroom, they have dyes, glue, paint brushes, and markers, and they may use muslin, but it can't show. Tim told them about some of the history of paper dresses. They have until midnight THAT SAME DAY to finish their garment. Yipes!
There is a whole lot of fun pleating going on, and paper mache. Shirin is really loud and Nicolas thinks she's like an 11 year old kid. Johnny is planning on doing a dress of oragami, and paints it with fabric dye. Nicolas thinks it looks like a piece of wrinkled up paper painted with pig's blood. Pleasant. Ra'Mon is excited. Louise is making a headline dress.
Enter Tim!
Gordana's dress is too much of a political statement than a dress. She has another look, though, which is a work of art. Tim told her to work on that one instead. He urged Althea to look at the paper upside down. Irina has a discarded design, and Tim reminded her that there was a paper trench coat in 1968, so it can be done. Tim worried that Johnny's dress looked like an craft project gone awry, and he started over. Nicolas has a good trajectory, according to Tim, but he wants to make sure it is interesting but not costumey. Christopher wants a show stopper, and Tim thinks he could have it if he can make it happen.
Time for model fittings! Johnny told his model that his dress was ruined by a steamer, which was not true. In fact, it just sucked and he had nothing. Two hours left, Johnny started doing a crossword puzzle instead of dealing with his design. Not good.
Next day, they have a little time before the Runway Show. They have 2 hours to get hair and makeup done and get fitted. Tim urged them not to stall out. Gordana is feeling confident and her outfit is pretty cool. Carol Hannah has a gorgeous looking dress but had a hard time getting it off the mannequin and on the model. Tim tells them they can bring an emergency repair kit with them to the runway, including lots of tape.
Runway Show
Tommy Hilfinger, Zoe Glassner, and Eva Longoria Parker are joining Heidi on the judge's panel. I miss Michael and Nina.
Logan's dress is very fan-like at the bodice and he says it looks like bamboo leaves.
Nicolas' dress is not very interesting, but it is recognizeably a dress. That's something.
Christopher's dress is kind of awesome. He called it a play on hard and soft and I totally think it worked.
Ra'Mon's dress was very interesting, and looked good. Nothing grand, though.
Epperson made something with huge kimono-style sleeves, and it sure was something. It had structure and form.
Johnny's dress looked like a strange arrow was pointing at the model's neck. Faces were all over it. I wouldn't want an eye staring at my bust from my tummy, but that's me...
Gordana's dress is very beautiful, and I love that she didn't use any muslin in it. Very skillful. I wouldn't think it was paper.
Carol Hannah's dress is gorgeous. I love the skirt. It's very interesting.
Shirin's dress was neat. It looked like something out of Alice in Wonderland, with it's folded skirt. Shirin was happy it didn't fall off.
Irina made a trench coat and it looked great. The ruffles on the collars and sleeves were really net.
Althea's dress looked like feathers. I loved the design.
Louise did a very interesting neckline, and the dress was cute, but nothing special, in my opinion.
Johnny, Nicolas, Christopher, Althea, Gordana, and Irina were called forward. The others were sent away as safe.
Althea was going for fans, and Eva Longoria Parker liked it a lot. Tommy Hilfinger called it pretty genius. Zoe thought it was exquisite.
Gordana wanted to create a conventional look with the unconventional material. Heidi was a little bored by the wearability of it.
Irina immediately thought trench coat, and Eva loved it. Tommy loved it, but didn't like seeing the tape. Zoe loved the collar and sleeves.
Heidi wondered how much time Johnny spent on the dress. He told the steamer lie again. Heidi thought she looked like a hooker. Eva didn't like the pointy thing, and the dress looked much better when it was folded down. Johnny went off about how beautiful his other dress was.
Nicolas tossed him under the bus, and let the judges know that Tim hated it. He got his due, because the judges weren't seeing punk rock in his dress. They were seeing cockroach.
Christopher's dress got great marks. It is a definite wow.
In the end, Irina was the winner of the challenge. Christopher and Althea are safe, too. Gordana, though in the bottom 3, joined them. In the end, it was Johnny and his excuses going home. Nicolas will live to gloat another day. Tim told the other designers how miffed he was that Johnny told his "preposterous work of fiction" about the first dress. I can't blame him.
Can't wait to see next week!

Project Runway 9.10.09
Heidi greeted the designers and told them that their challenge involved making the dreams of 13 women waiting in the workroom come true. Turns out, their clients are their models, for a model event. They will have $100 and only one day to make the look.
Epperson's model was all over the place in her requests. Many of the other models were also kind of indecisive. Louise's model really wanted red, and Louise didn't like that. Shirin's model wanted a royal blue satin jumpsuit with gold rope. That, right there, shows why models are models and not designers.
Back in the workroom, everyone got down to work. When Tim came around for his look-see, he worried that Althea's belt might look like a cumberbund, but liked the idea. Christopher had a really bright green color and almost a drop waist. I'm not sure I liked it. Epperson's look was coming along really beautifully, and he seemed to be getting a lot of his models wants in it. Qrystal's dress looked messy, and Tim worried it looked like she'd been rolling around in bed. Logan didn't want his dress to look like a smurf prom dress, and worried about the lace, which he hadn't worked with before. Tim admitted that he had a conundrum. Carol Hannah's dress worried Tim, too. He thought that the top looked like she might be robbing her model of her youth.
Thought the challenge is only one day, Epperson had time to call his family (on the Sidekick, natch, sponsor sponsor...)
Ra'Mon was working with a hammer just before the models entered. Johnny was sure his model didn't like the dress, but I think she just was nagging him. Althea's outfit looked fun. Logan worried that people would be looking at his model for the wrong reasons. Nicolas was worried about the detail work. Shirin and her model spent a lot of time staring at her garment on the mannequin.
The next day, they have 2 hours before the runway show. I was really digging Irina's fabric and wanted to see more of it. Logan was worried that his look was unlike anything he would normally do, but thought that his model would like it.
Nicolas predicted that Epperson and Johnny were going to be in the bottom.
Runway Show
Mark Bauer, Zoey Glassner, and Jen Rate are the strangers on the judges panel with Heidi.
Qyrstal's dress was a yawn. Black, asymmetric short dress with rando gathered. Didn't like the back so much.
Nicolas's dress looked really nice, but the way the model walked made her look slightly pregnant. Seriously, if she had shown up on a red carpet in that, bump watches would be popping up all over the world. That bit is a shame, because I really liked the look of the design on his model other than that.
Irina's outfit was a really interesting print and an unfortunately boxy and giant gold bowed jacket.. I wish I could just have the dress.
Gordana's dress was really cute but the color was a little too monochromatic with the model.
Shirin's dress was a really great color (a deep bright blue) and I liked it. Not sure it was anything unique, but it was pretty.
Logan's dress didn't do much for his model's bust line, but it was different. It looked a little prom dress to me.
Christopher's dress looked like a bright green lamp shade or tootie roll wrapper. Good to know that he thought his model liked it. Maybe she could take it home with her.
Epperson's model worked that dress and it was very interesting. I thought it made her look hippy, but I can appreciate the construction.
Johnny's dress looked good on his model and he seemed to think she liked it. Nothing super special to me.
Althea's look was really weird. It made her model look really boxy and thick. I really really didn't like it.
Louise made a very interesting dress for her model with an Elizabethan collar.
Ra'Mon's model seemed to really love her dress, giant boob flower and all. She gave a happy pose at the end of the runway. It gets a resounding eh from me.
Carol Hanna's dress was really interesting. I liked the layering. The bottom looked like a textured leather. Really cool. The top was a neat purple.
Louise, Irina, Christopher, Nicolas, Gordana, Shirin, and Ra'Mon are middle of the pack this week.
Carol Hannah's dress got really great marks. The judges loved the juxtaposition of the two fabrics (as did I).
Logan's model liked her dress, but the judges all thought it looked like cheap, tacky, prom. Logan admitted that he almost changed the skirt into a pencil skirt, and the judges agreed that would have been a good idea.
Epperson's model wanted a lot from her look. The judges seemed to love the dress, and one of them called Epperson a craftsman. Heidi wanted more perkiness from the boobage area.
Johnny got resounding blahs. One of the judges said that the world doesn't need more of that dress. Heidi thought it looked bridesmaid.
Qrystal's dress was called plain and old. Heidi said that it aged her about 10 years, and for models, that's like dog years.
Althea's model walked well. Heidi wanted to buy the outfit. The other judges agreed. I don't see what they are seeing. It looked like formal shorts to me. Not ok. (But I'm no designer)
Epperson is in, and Althea is the winner. Maybe you have to see that thing in person. Huh. Did any of you like it? Carol Hannah is safe. Johnny is safe, from the bottom. In the end, it was down to Qrystal and Logan. It is Qrystal's time to go, and I am so glad to not have to spell her name again until the reunion show! By-bye, funky spelling girl.

Project Runway 9.3.09
Can Mitchell rise from the bottom of the barrel tonight? Somehow, I doubt it.
Heidi meets the designers on the runway, and tells them that they are going on a field trip to a popular Californian destination, and urges them to bring their sunblock. Tim met them on the beach in flip flops, sunglasses, and a stylish blazer and khakis. No tie! He tells them that they are going to be doing a fun and fashionable surf-wear look. Hair style is very important this week. (Garnier Fructis, naturally). It's a team challenge, with teams of 2. Tim pulled names for team captains. Shirin was a captain automatically because of her previous win.
Shirin picks Carol Hannah
Logan picked Christopher
Nicholas chose Gordana
Mitchell chose Ra'Mon
Althea chose Louise
Qrystal chose Epperson
Johnny got Irina.
They have 20 minutes to brainstorm, chat with the surfer girls, and decide which of their two models they are going to be using. They have $50 and only 15 minutes to shop. Madness ensued.
Some of the teams are working well together. Others are not so much. Epperson is treating Qrystal like an assistant, but reminds himself that she is the team captain and so backs off. Mitchell and Ra'Mon have entirely different aesthetics and Ra'Mon is feeling like he's the captain.
While they were working, Tim brought a message from Heidi and the judges. Each team has to create a second look. Yipes! It has to be an avant garde design that coordinates with their surf outfit. (So I guess the second models will be used). They are going back to Mood the next day with $200. Tim suggested that one person from each team should stay and work on their original look while the other one goes to Mood.
Qrystal continued to be insulted by Epperson treating her like a child. Mitchell was feeling overwhelmed by the sewing.
Tim entered, calling himself the Prophet of Doom. Carol Hannah's model (Erika) is filming a commercial, and Carol Hannah had the opportunity to pick a new model. She chose to switch to Valerie, so Erika is going home.
Mitchell is totally taking a back seat to Ra'Mon, and Ra'Mon is not pleased about it.
After the Garnier consultations, Tim did his look-see. He worried that Qrystal and Epperson's convertable look might end up looking like panties. He didn't get the connection between Mitchell and Ra'Mon's beach look (Greek Goddess) and Avant Garde look (superhero wetsuit). Ra'Mon scrapped the jumpsuit, and went with a new idea that he didn't share with Mitchell. Qrystal and Eppreson continued to clash. Christopher and Logan were working super well together and thought that the win was in the bag. That could be trouble.
With 35 minutes left before Runway, Ra'Mon decided to hand dye his neoprene. Tim came and told him he wanted to make sure that both models were wearing something.
Runway time!
Rachel Bilson, the top guy from BCBG and other things, and Nina joined Heidi for judging.
Qrystal & Epperson: Beach look. Very sweet and beachy. Surf ready? Not sure. The Avant Garde look was ill-fitted and looked like a hoochy mamma gone wild. Really terrible.
Johnny & Irina: Beach look: kind of sweet, and I think it was beach ready. Avant Garde Look: Looks like one of those braided rugs. In brown. With a giant poofy explosion on one shoulder. Not so good.
Mitchell & Ra'Mon: Beach look: quite nice and flowy. Not surf ready. Avant Garde Look: Really weird. Don't know what to say about that.
Shirin & Carol Hannah: Beach look : Actually beach ready! A very sweet bikini and a fabulous coverup. Avant Garde look: Very neat. I liked it a lot. Looked like a lot went into it.
Althea & Louise: Beach look: Somehow, it got some of Louise aesthetic into it, and it was kind of fun. Avant Garde: They did one of those mullet dresses that I don't like so much. Looked like a bad 80's prom dress
Nicholas & Gordana: Beach look: They did a macrame bathing suit. And it looked really cute. And the pants were wraparound pants, which flowed beautifully and looked very comfortable, except for the fact that the pants are about 8 feet too long. Avant Garde: Looked like a wedding gone bad stripper.
Logan & Christopher: Beach look: They made a hat which was cute, and the rest was also fun. Avant Garde: Very avant garde! It was nicely done.
Althea & Louise, Logan & Christopher, and Shirin & Carol Hannah were the middle of the pack and were safe.
Qrystal & Epperson and Nicholas & Gordana are in the bottom. They are chatting with the top tier first.
Johnny & Irina did a good job, according to the judges. They loved the macrame in back.
Mitchell & Ra'Mon got good marks for a lot, though Mitchell admitted to doing almost nothing except for the non-visible bathing suit. They actually loved Ra'Mon's avant garde dress with the dye job. Huh. Shows what I know.
Bickering continued between Epperson & Qrystal in front of the judges. The judges liked how well the top fit on the beach look, but hated the other thing.
Nicholas & Gordana got good marks for the very pretty macrame top, but the ill-fitting pants were a mess, and the garter belts, cutouts, and idiocy of the avant garde thing was reviled by all.
Amazingly, to me, they loved Ra'Mon's look so much that they gave him the win. Nicolas & Gordana and Irina & Johnny were safe. Epperson was sent to safety. That left Qrystal and Mitchell. Although his team won, Mitchell is out. I think they made the right decision.

Project Runway 8.27.09
A note - I am watching, but not blogging, Models of the Runway. The only thing really worth noting from last week, I think, was that the poor model who was sent down the runway rocking nothing but an Elizabethan collar and a sheer sheet was sent home. I guess her questionable measurement sheet will have to find some other runway to walk.
Heidi meets the designers on the Runway to introduce them to the next challenge. They will be designing for a celebrity, indeed a supermodel. There was speculation that it would be for Heidi herself, until a big pregnant form came up behind the screen. It was Rebecca Romejn, who's name I have butchered, pregnant with twins (who have since been born and are adorable). What she wants is something wearable, and the designers can choose pretty much any occasion. She just wants something with a beautiful silhouette. She likes form fitting.
In the workroom, they find that their mannequins have belly pillows to attach to them. Sweet. They have 30 minutes to sketch, $100 at Mood, and 2 days.
Louise is hand-dying lace in the bathroom. Malvin is doing something strange having to do with chickens, I think. He lost me along the way. Mitchell has apparently designed commercialy for pregnant ladies. Before he put the belly band in, he had a pair of shorts that multiple people fit in. Hope that goes well for him. Shirin is doing something very drapey and her initial work looks pretty.
Tim's Look Time! He told Althea to give up making her very fancy (and pretty) dress into a day dress. Louise worried that her dress was too nightgown-like. Tim approves of Mitchell's vow to send his model down the runway wearing clothes, and liked Shirin's dress, but worried about her jacket idea. And Malvin? He was about to make jodpurs to look like chicken thighs, making the model's thighs look bigger. Because of his concept. Tim was worried. I think Malvin didn't hear the "wearable" criteria from Rebecca. Ra'Mon is doing a colorblocked dress to try to fool the eye. Ra'Mon says he doesn't want to be safe, and he wants to take risks. Tim advised him to take risks without going cuckoo, because cuckoo's already happened. That's right, Malvin.
Mitchell thought that Ra'Mon's dress looked like it had a bowling ball attached to it. There was some hysteria.
Then it was time to get some models pregnant! That's fun. Carol Hannah's model has a 2 year old and really liked the dress, so that's cool.
Oy. Johnny's jacket looked like a bad Florida Walmart print. Hope he can work that out.
The day of the Runway, people still have work to do. Malvin wants to make his look more literal. I think he's going the wrong direction with that. Final fittings are mixed. Mitchell's shorts are a mess.
Time for the Runway show!
Monique Lhullier is filling in for Michael Kors and joins Heidi, Nina, and Rebecca on the judge's pantel.
Logan's look is pretty sweet. I like the leggings. Did I just say that? Maybe I should check my temperature... Anyhow, I liked the leggings, and the sweater was sweet. I like the bare arms, and the scoop in back. Very flattering.
Shirin's dress is lovely. The coat actually turned out quite nicely, too. I really appreciated the pattern on the inside of the coat. I love the color.
Nicolas's dress was a little too figure hugging, in my opinion. It didn't look like he had designed something thinking that a pregnant person would be wearing it, but instead said "oh crap" after designing the dress and put the larger belly room in. The rest of it was ill fitting and pulled and bunched in weird places. Watch the judges love it. It was riding up like crazy. Not good.
Christopher's look is really gorgeous. Again, there are leggings, but the top is something else. It drapes beautifully and is a lovely color. I'm not sure how I feel about it being a bubble top (and by this I mean, it's gathered under and poofy at the bottom). It would have been better for me without that.
Mitchell's model managed to walk down the runway like she wanted to be wearing those shorts, so kudos to her. I wouldn't have wanted it.
Qrystal looked like she didn't do too much sewing. It looked like a piece of (admittedly pretty) fabric draped around the model and tied around the neck. I know that draping takes a lot of talent, but this didn't do much for me.
Epperson made a jumpsuit. I hate him for that. And I think it was satin. A satin jumpsuit. In white. A world of no.
Louise's 20's inspired dress turned out seriously beautifully. The second skirt layer was a good idea and brought it away from the realm of negligee for me.
Gordana's neckline was really interesting. I wasn't digging the grey cardigan she put over it, though. That looked like an afterthought. The leggings (again) were kind of sweet.
Johnny's model didn't end up wearing the unfortunate jacket, but for some reason carried it down the runway tucked into a giant bag. Weird. The dress was interesting and kind of pretty, but I didn't care so much for the drab green color.
Malvin's outfit didn't look so much like a chicken and an egg as it did a woman carrying a baby in a giant sling and looking kind of disheveled doing it. He didn't go with jodpurs, that goodness, but the fabric looked like muslin or a potato sack. Not exactly flattering.
Ra'Mon's dress also looked kind of awkward and poorly constructed. It was kind of rumpled.
Carol Hannah's dress is actually quite sweet. The little rufflely jacket, which Carol Hannah was all aglow about, I was not so fond of. The dress was much nicer without it. The color was a nice vibrant green.
Althea's bodice is rather low cut, but really neat. The skirt itself is way too long and I worried that the model was going to trip.
Irina's dress was really super sweet. I *loved* that she had her model smile. Thank you!
Louise, Althea, Mitchell, Shirin, Malvin, and Ra'Mon were pulled forward and everyone else was sent to safety.
Ra'Mon's dress was called too busy and sloppy, and the patchworky pattern seemed to be pointing at the baby. Weird.
Rebecca liked Louise's dress even though she thought it did look a little like lingeree. Everyone appreciated the fact that the dress was tiered in places to allow for growth.
Althea's dress was appreciated for it's look and it's fabric, but the judges wanted more room in the cups in case the boobs grew.
I love Nina Garcia because she brought up the fact that Malvin's outfit looked like it was a woman wearing a baby in a sling. The judges wished that he had kept going with what he had going on with the black underlay feather thing. It could have been nice.
Mitchell's outfit got dinged for being so poorly constructed. Nina called the whole thing a mess. The shorts were too short, the belly band was visible, and the shirt was too tight. Not good.
Shirin's dress is really beautiful, and her waistband was smocked in a really interesting and beautiful way. Rebecca also loved the lining. Monique told Shirin that she should get into designing maternity wear.
In the end, the winner was Shirin. I'm glad. Her dress was just fantastic. She has immunity in the next challenge.
Ra'Mon, though his dress was not a favorite, is in. It's between Malvin and Mitchell. I think that's about right. Malvin's weirdo design was his undoing, and he's gone. That's two oddball designers out in a row! How unlike PR! They usually keep them around for a while for entertainment purposes. I'm glad to see him go, though.
What do you think? Did they make the right choice?

Yay for a New Season - Project Runway
Ra'Mon Lawrence went to Med school, specializing in neurosurgery, and switched to fashion. I hate the superfluous apostrophe.
Logan is from Seattle, and called himself a guy's guy.
Johnny has tried out three times before. He had a meth addiction and didn't make it because of that. He's battled back, and makes nice looking clothes, so let's see.
Gordana is from the former Yugoslavia.
Malvin has some crazy hair. He likes to be androgenous.
Carol Hannah is a cutie. She calls her look pixie-meets-cocktail party.
I instantly dislike Qristyl because of her wonky spelling.
Shirin's name means sweet in Farsi. She likes designs with more than one use.
Nicolas is known in NYC as the feather prince, and likes lace and feathers.
Mitchell graduated from design school but is working in the business end now.
Epperson is tall and single-named, and has spent years dressing windows.
Christopher is from Minnesota. He did not go to design school due to a death in the family.
Ari likes to talk to her fabric.
Althea is a blonde bombshell. She's interned for Vivian Westwood.
Irina is a NYC girl and likes leather and her pocket dog.
Louise has a cute little bob. She's a vintage inspired gal.
Time for the rooftop celebration. Since this season was filmed so long ago, Heidi is not pregnant yet. She looked amazing and I loved her dress.
Their first challenge is introduced on the Emmy Red Carpet. They will be designing a red carpet event that shows true innovation and their own style. They get to the workroom, and are pre-assigned models. They have their measurements and have a two day time limit. Their budget is $200 for 30 minutes at Mood, and immunity is up for grabs.
Ari doesn't sketch - instead, she stood on her head. She wanted to meditate on the fabric. At Mood, she said she was going for weird hexagonal tesselation forms. Qrystal took matters into her own hands and bought her own scissors to cut her fabric when there was only one guy cutting. Stupid Q or not, I respect that.
In the workroom, Johnny was struggling and felt that he wanted to throw in the towel. I hope not. Tim came in to give him a pep talk. I swear, Tim is better than a therapist. He's like a fashionable therapist. Go Tim! He gave him the Make It Work, and Johnny went back to work.
Christopher has never heard of smocking before. Tim entered to do a look-see. He warned Christopher that he is going to have to be careful with styling. Ari's look worried Tim, and he said he worried it was going to end up looking like a halter diaper. Ra'Mon doesn't want to give his girl a big butt, and Tim agreed. Mitchell was doing a ton of smocking, and called Tim Mr. Gunn. That was cute. Tim let him know he can be called Tim, and worried about making his outfit more modern. Qrystal wanted more input from Tim, and Tim was less forthcoming than she'd like.
Enter models! Mitchell's model card didn't fit with his model and that was sad. He basically had to redo the whole thing. His leftover fabric is similar to pantyhose. Not good. He's scrambling.
Guest judge for the Runway is Lindsay Lohan, pre her latest bout with insanity.
Althea's dress looks like a prom dress gone wrong. It's creamy and ruffly on top and shimmery silver on the bottom. I don't dig it.
Gordana's dress looked a little tight but interesting.
Malvin's dress was neat and had a swing to it. It didn't look that well constructed.
Mitchell's dress was like an Elizabethan take on the toga. That poor girl. It was so sheer as to be embarassing.
Louise's dress was very shimmery and I liked it.
Christopher's dress was very neat. I liked it a lot. Very interesting.
Ra'Mon's dress is neat, and I liked it. Not sure how different it was.
Shirin's dress has a shawl that opens up to another part of the skirt. Very cool. I liked it.
Epperson's dress was dramatic and I like the kind of eggplant color.
Irina's dress was neat, but looked a bit like a night gown.
Ari's garment was nowhere near red carpet. I feel sorry for her model's hair.
Johnny's dress had fabulous color. I didn't like the shape at all.
Carol Hannah's dress was really neat. I loved nearly everything about it.
Qrystal's dress was ridiculously 80's. I mean, like something you would see on 227. Not good.
Logan's dress was a little too long it seemed. The dual fabric in the bodice was neat, though.
Nicolas's dress was a little blah. Didn't do much for me.
Shirin, Epperson, Gordana, Carol Hannah, Logan, Althea, Nicolas, Irina, Melvin, and Louise are all safe, middle of the pack-ers.
Qrystal was asked which award show they would be going to. She suggested the Emmy's, and thought that Miley Cyrus would like it. The front is called a mess.
Christopher's model is going to the VMA's, and Heidi liked the dress, but didn't love the bottom fabric. Michael called it cute and edgey. Lindsay also liked it.
Ra'Mon's dress was for the Oscars. Michael wanted him to pump it up and not be safe. Lindsay liked it. Heidi thought it looked like more than $200.
Ari wanted her ... dress... to be going to the VMA's in 2080 and then go accept her Nobel Prize afterwards. The model looked embarassed. They appreciated her conceptual design process, but thought it was important to create something that people would want to wear.
Johnny's dress is for someone who is obsessed with the 20's and going to her movie premiere. I like it much less on second look. It was not flattering to me.
Mitchell's look was called completely unwearable, and Michael called it a cool nightgown. Heidi advised him to never completely trust a model's measurements.
The judges in deliberation wondered if Ari was taking the whole thing seriously.
Johnny is in, but not the winner this time. Christopher is the winner of the challenge, smocking knowledge or no. I'm glad that he won. His dress was really neat. Good for him. Ra'Mon is also safe, as is Qrystal.
It's between Ari and Mitchell for the auf. In the end, Mitchell's sheer debacle was more acceptable than Ari's quilted massacre of a look. She can go stand on her head on her own now.
Logan is from Seattle, and called himself a guy's guy.
Johnny has tried out three times before. He had a meth addiction and didn't make it because of that. He's battled back, and makes nice looking clothes, so let's see.
Gordana is from the former Yugoslavia.
