Amazing Race - 3.7.10

Argentina!  Ranches!  From this lovely Pitstop, The Cowboys are the first to find out they are heading for  Frankfurt, Germany where they then have to get to Hamburg, and look for Jungfrensteig St.

They get on the first plane available, leaving at 11:30 in the morning.  The Detectives also get on it.

Brandy & Carol are determined to be respectful.  Jordan admits that Dan doesn't like traveling, but did it for him.

The first flight gets there at 2:35 PM.  The train leaves at 3:37 PM.  The second plane gets there with three minutes to spare for the train, but Carol & Brady and Dan & Jordan had a hard time navigating the train station and missed the train.   The other teams caught up to them before the next train.

Intersection

This is new!  They have to mutually agree to join forces with another team for the Roadblock.

Roadblock

Teams have to take a tandem bungee in the middle of the city. Insane.

The Cowboys and the Detectives work together.  Heidi & Joe teamed up with Steve and Allie.  Steve & Allie met a German named Klaus who helped them.  Brandi & Dan did the bungee together.  They also found a local.  Jordan & Jeff worked with Brent & Caite.  The girls did the bungee.  Caite & Jordan got on the wrong train.  Oopsie.

Cowboy & Detective went up first.  Cowboy refused to remove his hat.  That's hard core.  And he managed to keep it on.  That's awesome.  He didn't even hold onto it.

They got their clue, but had to get back to their teammates before opening it.  They have to get to the statue of Kaiser Wilhelm, and they are no longer united.

Joe & Allie got to the bungee next, followed by Dan & Brandy, and Caite & Jordan.  Brandy was not looking forward to it.  She and Carol apparently bungeed before the race, and she didn't want to do it again.  They managed to live through the jump, and Dan was very supportive.

At the statue - Detour

Soccer - Kick five targets in a goal from the penalty line.

Sauerkraut - polish off a plate of sauerkraut while the Sauerkraut Polka plays, before it's done.

The Detectives chose Sauerkraut.  They ate like crazy and finished readily.

Next: Haifisch Bar  - they have to drink a glass boot filled with beer.  And that's a mighty huge boot.

At the Detour, the Cowboys, Steve & Allie, and Joe & Heidi chose Soccer.

The Detectives got to the bar.  The boot was HUGE, and one of the Detectives doesn't like beer much.  I missed if it was the Detective who ate most of the sauerkraut who ended up drinking most of the beer... that's a tummy full of German goodness.

Joe and Heidi, meanwhile, did the soccer.  Joe, of course, has a bad knee, and couldn't get the balls up in the air.  It was a foolish decision to do the soccer task with a bum knee.  They went back to eat Sauerkraut.

Brent & Caite also chose Soccer.  Jeff & Jordan chose Sauerkraut.

Steve & Allie finished the soccer and headed to the bar.  The Cowboys had pretty much never played soccer before, but had pretty good aim.

Beer?  Done for the Detectives.

They have to head to the Beatles-Platz, and search for the tiny club where the Beatles played their first gig in Hamburg.

Back to the Detour, Carol & Brandy chose the Sauerkraut, and Dan & Jordan went to soccer.

And Jeff & Jordan?  Stuck with a bad Cabbie who drove them all over creation.  Bad GPS, finally corrected, heading to their location.

The Detectives got to Indra, the Pit Stop, first.  You could tell that Detective Louis had had a boot of beer.  They came in first, and won $5000 Discover gift cards, one for each of them.

At the bar, Steve was thrilled, because he's wanted a beer for the whole trip.

And at the soccer field, the cowboys have fantastic aim and got all their goals.   Onto the bar with them.

Joe & Heidi got to the Sauerkraut and inhaled it, setting off for the bar. Carol & Brandy arrived for the Sauerkraut and Carol was eating daintily, but Brandy picked up the slack and off they went.

Dan had been hoping for a soccer challenge before the race.  They seemed to do a good job with it.

And on the road, Joe & Heidi cut the Cowboys off on the way to the bar.  One of the cowboys had never drunk beer before.  Wow.

Steve & Allie, meanwhile, got to the Pitstop 2nd.

Joe was gagging on the beer, but they finished before the Cowboys. I would not have wanted to be Joe's cabbie. He looked about to hurl.

Jordan & Jeff finally got to the Sauerkraut and failed their first try, gave up, and went to the soccer field.

Brent & Caite were at the soccer field, and Caite played soccer since she was five, had some really bad cramps, and whined about not being able to kick the balls properly.  Brent theorized that she was probably tight because of the huge plane ride and running around.  She refused to give up and they finished.  She got 3 of the targets, pain or no pain.

And the pitstop?  Joe & Heidi came in third.

The Cowboys finally finished their beer, and Jet said that he didn't want another beer ever.  Carol & Brandy downed their beer in seemingly really quick time.

Dan & Jordan arrived to drink their beer, and also seemed to do well with it.

The Cowboys fell to 4th pace at the pitstop, but they made it.

Jeff & Jordan were not very good at the soccer, either.  They finally got it and headed to the bar.

Carol & Brandy came in 5th, followed by Dan & Jordan (who were amused to be in the Red Light District of Hamburg, drunk.)

Caite hates beer, and unpleasantly, Brent had to throw up mid-boot, and they of course showed us.  Yuck. with sound effects.  Caite refused to man up and chug the beer, and he had to finish it after puking.  Yuck.

Jeff is at least good at drinking beer.

Unfortunately, Brent & Caite arrived first.  They were surprised that they weren't in last place.

Jeff & Jordan?  Last place.  But - NON-Elimination leg!  Speed bump ahead for them!

I'm ok with that.  How about you?

Amazing Race - 2.28.10

I wonder if they will bring up the earthquake in Chile, since they filmed there.

The Cowboys were the first to get their clue - they have to take a 6 hour bus ride through the Andes to Argentina, to a pub where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid hid out, and find the gnome and play poker against the Gnome in the Wall gang.

The Cowboys are very familiar with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.  They headed to a bar to ask if anyone knew about the place they were going to, and ended up finding someone who lived in Argentina for years and gave them some great info.

And Brent & Caite?  ER - food poisoning apparently.  They missed their scheduled departure and got IV fluids.  They left the hospital 3 hours after their scheduled departure.

Louis & Michael were still at the hotel when they got back from the ER.

At the bus station, Carol & Brandy tried to question the Cowboys about how they got ahead in the previous route.  It was more like an interrogation.  They didn't answer.  Along with Joe & Heidi, those three teams set out on the first bus.  The other teams all headed out maybe 20 minutes later.

In Argentina, the Cowboys took the lead, and the other teams followed them.  They decided to pull over and check out the map and let the other teams go ahead of them, so they wouldn't just lead everyone to the right place.

The other teams arrived, and there were still problems finding directions and driving stick for some.

All three first teams seems to arrive at the bar at about the same time, and tried their luck at poker against the gnome.

Jow & Heidi won right off and got their (Travelocity) gnome.  Carol & Brandy also won.  The Cowboys lost their first round.  They claimed it was because the gnome (statue) had a really good poker face.  The Cowboys won the third game.

At the next clue, it was a Roadblock.

Gaucho Festival!

Steer Roping!  Teams choose a roping station, watch the demo, and try to rope a target 18 feet away.

Brandy complained that the Roadblock wasn't fair because the cowboys have an advantage.  The Cowboys wisely said that they don't throw a fit because other teams know Spanish and they don't.  True nuff!

The Cowboys got the steer (statue) roped with no trouble (well, on the second try), and headed off for the Puente Nirihua and they have to search the cliffs for their next clue.  Everyone else was having lots of trouble with the roping.  Finally, Carol got it, and so did Heidi.

The Cowboys got the clue first.

Detour

Horse Sense - Directional coordinates from a gunslinger, get a compass, and find a buried bag of "treasure."

Horse Power - They have to move a practice polo pony down a field and score a goal in 9 swings or less.  If they fail, they have to start over.

The Cowboys chose the polo ponies.  They were disappointed when they had to use fake horses instead of a real one.  It was really cute when they tried to go sweet talk one of the real horses.

Carol & Brandy were fighting on the way to the route marker and were annoyed with each other.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys got their next clue, after completing the polo task, and were sent to the Pit Stop, which is a ranch at the base of the Andes.

Carol & Brandy chose the searching task.

Joe & Heidi decided to do the searching task, and Joe decided to use the compass on his watch instead of counting.  Carol and Brandy fought about their coordinates.  They decided to give up and go do the horses.  They were crazy annoyed at each other.

Caite and Brent?  Still driving.  Brent can't drive the stick shift, so sick Caite was stuck with it.

Heidi & Joe?  Not counting steps brought them to fake bags.  Oh, fun.  They found the lead bandit, but had the wrong bag, and decided to go back and do the polo ponies.

Team Big Brother?  Right bag, wrong lead bandit.  They thought they had the wrong bag and went back for a different wrong and presented it again to the wrong bandit.

Steve & Allie and Carol & Brandy were on to the horses.  Allie & Steve got it first, followed by Carol & Brandy.  Joe?  Kept falling over on the pony.

Back at the bar, Caite & Brent finally arrived, and the Attorney Moms (Monique & Shawne) were still lassoing.  Brent got it on the first throw and pulled ahead of last place.  They did some praying, and Shawne finally got the steer, and thanked the lord for helping.

The Cowboys handily got to the Pitstop first.  They won a 10 day trip for 2 to Patagonia.  Wow.

Team Big Brother finally realized that they were barking up the wrong bandit.  They found the right one and were off.

Dan & Jordan tried the ponies, and Jordan picked the fake pony that had polo jersies that coordinated with their outfits.  They missed the first and second attempts and tried again.  The detectives and the moms and Caite & Brett were also there.  Jeff & Jordan got it first out of those groups. Caite & Brent got it next, followed by the Detectives.  The Moms failed and gave up, because they were worried they would injure their backs with the polo.

Steve & Allie came in 2nd at the pitstop.  Carol & Brandy came in 3rd.  Joe & Heidi came in 4th.  Team Big Brother came in 5th..  Dan & Jordan came in 6th.  Brent & Caite came in 7th, and I have to say, I'm impressed.  The Detectives came in 8th.  Monique & Shawne got to the Pit Stop last and were eliminated.

Next week, the Cowboys get their drink on in Germany.  Brandy & Carol and Dan & Jordan team up.  Could be fun.

Amazing Race - 2.21.10

Jordan & Jeff are out first, heading towards Puerto Varas, (which I have probably spelled wrong), by bus, and then they have to drive to a lake, take a boat to Isla Margarita, and climb a place called Miradour (I apologize for my lack of Spanish).

They have less Spanish than I do, but got their taxi driver to bring them to the bus station, which isn't open until 5 AM, and pretty much every one caught up.  They tried to talk to a dog, and Jeff decided that the dog spoke only Spanish.  Uhhhh....

The Cowboys love their hats.  Carol & Brandy were not getting along with Caite & Brent, but they decided to work with Heidi & Joe.

Everyone got on the same bus heading to Santiago, Chile.  From there, they had to switch buses and get to Puerto Varas.  Heidi & Joe were holding spots for Carol & Brandy, and The Detectives didn't like that.  Carol & Brandy speak Spanish, so that helps.  Joe & Heidi and Carol & Brandy got the last seats on the first bus.  Other teams got one that leaves an hour and 15 minutes later.   Some other teams (grandma & granddaughter) got on one that leaves at 8 PM.  Brent & Caite have the idea of taking a bus to someplace else first, and then connecting to the final destination.  The Cowboys and Jordan & Jeff did the same thing.  We'll see if that works out.

The Cowboys went to see if they could get on the same bus that the other teams doing the roundabout connection did, and it turns out that bus is 10 minutes away by taxi.  They did not share this information with the other teams, and waited around for their original bus.  By the time the teams got to the other terminal, their original bus was gone, and by the time they got back, the Cowboy's bus had arrived... and departed.  They were stranded.

There were no more buses that day to Puerto Varas from that place.  Stuck in the bus terminal.  They got a 1 AM bus.

The Cowboys got to Puerto Varas before anyone else and found the hotel with no troubles... but the "marked path" opened at 7 AM, so they snuggled into their car.

Next morning, they were first on the boat to the Isla Margarita.  The other teams (except those on the final bus) got there at about the same time, apparently.  The water was rough and the boats were all over the place.

And a challenge?  Driving stick.  Dan & Jordan didn't know how to drive stick.  Others also had that problem.

On Isla Margarita, the Cowboys got the Detour.

Teams have to choose between Llama Adoration - Choose a llama, dress it for a festival with a blanket and a scarf.

Condor Consternation - Dress as Condors, and fly to a target to get their clue.

The Cowboys chose Llamas.  Llamas can be really stubborn, but I would totally choose llamas.  The Cowboys chose a good llama and had no troubles at all.

Onward - drive to Onces Bella Vista Farm.

Brandy & Carol were nervous about being kicked and/or spit on.

Jordan & Jeff chose the Condor, as did Caite & Brent, and Steve & Allie.

Brent & Caite did not hit their target in flight, but they were allowed to swim to the target to get their clue.

Joe & Heidi found a llama who was sitting down, and dressed it, and at about the same time, Carol & Brandy finished up, too.

The final bus arrived in  Puerta Varas with the Grandma & Granddaughter, while Dan & Jordan seemed to be terribly lost, and still had troubles driving stick.

The Detectives had troubles with llamas, and Monique & Shawne arrived, too.  The Detectives managed to dress their llama and be on their way...

The Cowboys arrived at the Roadblock way before anyone else.

Teams have to race around the farm to collect flour, a plate of butter, a bowl of sugar, a baker's dozen of eggs, and fresh milk from a cow - and then they have to deliver it to bakers for their clue (they make kuchen, which I probably spelled wrong).  The Cowboy was well versed in cow milking, and knew what a baker's dozen was, so he finished in no time flat.

To the Pit Stop with them!  They have to drive back to Puerta Varas.

Carol & Heidi decided to work with each other during the Baker's challenge.  They were not as well versed at milking cows.  Carol got kicked in the hand.  Ow.  Both got their clues, though, and they were on their way.

Jeff did the challenge, because Jordan wasn't sure how many eggs were in a Baker's Dozen.

The Detectives drove right on past the farm.  Jordan did not apprecitate when the cow pooped right after he was done milking it.

The Cowboys got to the pit stop first, and each of them won a sailboat.  Cool.  Joe & Heidi came in next, followed by Carol & Brandy.  Brent & Caite came in 4th.  Caite hopes that people stop making fun of her. Jordan & Jeff are pretty lost looking for the Pit Stop, but they ran int the Detectives, and let them know that they'd overshot the farm by 19 miles.  Yowch.

Monique & Shawne got the the Pit Stop 5th, followed by Jordan & Jeff.  The Detectives came in right behind Grandma in the farm, and then he slipped and broke a whole slew of eggs and couldn't dind the pantry.  Then, the Grandma got kicked in the head by the cow while she was milking, but she didn't stop, just went ack to a different cow and kept milking.

Steve & Allie got to the Pit Stop 7th, followed by Dan & Jordan.

Grandma was not having the easiest time getting the ingredients, but heck, she got kicked in the head by a cow and didn't stop, so I hope they make it to the pit stop before the Detectives.

The Detectives came in 9th, followed by Grandma & Grandma, and I'm sad that it's not a non-elimination leg.  They were great.  Oh well.

Yay for a New Season! Amazing Race - 2.14.10

The Race Starts in LA.

Brent & Caite - (Dating models from SC)  She's the stupid map girl from Miss America a few years ago.  I'm sure you've seen the YouTube.  Like, suchas, and like.

Jed & Cord (Cowboys)

Steve & Allie (Father and daughter, he coached the Phillies to the World Series)

Dan & Jordan (brothers from Rhode Island)  One brother is gay, the other one is not.

Dana & Adrien (high school sweethearts, married 17 years)

Jordan & Jeff (they met on Big Brother 11, she won)

Jody & Shannon (Grandmother & Granddaughter, both triathletes)

Louis & Michael (undercover detectives from Rhode Island).  Good luck being undercover after this!

Monique & Shawne (Mompreneurs and best friends)

Joe & Heidi (Married parents from CA).  They like to do body bumps.  He's confrontational.  Fun.

Carol & Brandy (dating couple)

First things first, they get their first clues on the tops of their bags, and they have to get to the airport using public transportation.  The first three teams to the airport get on the first flight, and everyone else will have to leave on the next flight, an hour later.

They have to fly to Santiago, Chile.  No one is excited about using public transport.  Most people asked for directions to the public transportation to get to the airport.

(I absolutely love that the gay brother recognized Caite and knew her infamous answer by heart)

Jordan has never heard of Santiago, and her boyfriend asked her if she'd ever seen Where in the World is Carmen San Diego.  Genius.  Four teams got to the airport at the same time, but only three got onto the first flight.  Carol & Brandy lost out.

The rest of the groups got to the airport next, and the gay brother (I don't know his name yet, sorry if I offend anyone.  that's how he identified himself) told Carol & Brandy who Caite was.

The first plane had some mechanical problems and was delayed!  That sucks!  Joe & Heidi switched to the other flight, and Jordan & Jeff followed suit.   I believe that the undercover detectives were the other team on the first flight, but they also switched.  Maybe it was Shawne & Allie.

When they reach Santiago, they have to get on a bus to Valporeso.  The cowboys made the mistake of getting Brazilian money in Miami instead of Chilean money.  Oops.  They were not allowed on the bus until they got good currency.

They next had to get to the funiculars.  I can't keep track of the order of everyone.  Too many teams right now.

Brett & Caite were at the clue first.

Roadblock

One team member must walk a cable the length of a football field 120 feet off the ground.  Yipes.

Caite did the task, followed by Jordan.  Joe took the task because Heidi has some fear of heights.  Allie did the task, and so did Dan..  Brandy also hit the lines.  Shawne did the task, too.  Oh, I've lost track.

Dan fell off the line!  He stayed calm and asked for advice.  Jordan told him to joozsh along using his hands, and he was doing a pretty good job.  Jordan got a little freaked out and looked panicky.  She sat down.  God was apparently with Shawne.  Adrian hopped up, too.

Once they were done, teams had to take one of the 120 year old Funiculars down the hill to the next clue.

Brent & Caite made the mistake of walking down the steps instead of using the funicular (I think).  Dan & Jordan and Jeff & Jordan took the Funicular.

The next task is to take four cans of paint and a ladder and find unpainted buildings and help paint a section of a house.  Everyone seemed to have a hard time finding the houses to paint.

Brandy finally made it across the cables.  Good for her.

Brent & Caite finally found the places to paint.

9th to arrive at the cables?  The detectives.  Adrien was not doing so well and the detective passed him super quickly.

The final two teams are the triathletes and the cowboys.

Jeff & Jordan were the first team to find the painting, followed by Caite & Brent.

The next clue sent them (by foot) to Palazia Babbariza, the pit stop.

Granddaughter, meanwhile, and Cord were the final two people on the cables.  Grandma said that instead of having the balance of a cat, she has the balance of a drunken elderly person on stilts.  I like her.

And Adrian fell off the cable!  The Safety Specialist came out and told him to go back to the beginning, and he tried to get back up but couldn't, so he had to start over.  Cowboy and Granddaughter were racing along beautifully.

Jordan & Jeff got to the Pitstop first.  They won a trip for two to Vancouver, with Whale Watching and a try at Skeleton at Whistler.  Caite & Brent arrived next.  However, they took the stairs instead of the funicular, and they incurred a 30 minute penalty.

Read the clues, people.  Read the clues.

Jordan & Dan dropped a brush while looking for the house to paint.  And Phillies Coach and his daughter?  They randomly went inside a house and found an unfinished wall, in a similar color, and some bewildered painters said in Spanish that they had no idea what these Americans were doing.

Monique & Shawne were the official 2nd team to arrive.

Adrien?  He finally decided to try the cables again.

And Coach & Daughter?  Realized that they had just painted in the wrong place.    And the detectives?  They started painting over some grafitti in the wrong color.  Not the right house.  Jet & Cord found their house quickly and managed to catch up and finish third.  Awesome for them.  The detectives finally found their house.

Dan & Jordan did incur a 15 minute penalty for losing a paint brush.  Steve & Allie came in 4th (guess they found the house), followed by Joe & Heidi.  Carol & Brandy got to the pit stop 6th, and then Brent & Caite got done their penalty and came in 7th, followed by Dan & Jordan, who finished their penalty.  Detectives came in 9th.  Grandma & Granddaughter came in 10th.

And Adrien fell again.  His wife was supportive, and they were eliminated by Phil at the cables.  Goodbye!

Good 1st episode! Love this show.

Amazing Race - 12.6.09

I want to scream right now.  Sat down to watch The Amazing Race Finale at 8:30, and my brilliant dvr had decided to record two different things instead - Dora the Explorer and Super Bikes.  Yeah.  I could have sworn they had lower priorities than The Amazing Race.  Booooo.

Anyhow, at least I didn't miss the end, but I have no idea what happened in the first half.  Check out other excellent recappers at zap2it and hitfix to see if they caught it.

I started watching right at a commercial break where Meghan was looking stricken to ominous music...

Meghan & Cheyne are stuck in traffic, while Sam & Dan are doing a task of counting chips, and are freaking out in each other.

Ericka & Brian show up to reveal (to me) what the task is - they have to count a million dollars in poker chips.  Meghan & Cheyne show up not long after them.

Amazingly, all teams finished counting at the same time, pretty much.  Meghan & Cheyne got theirs right first off, and are off to the MGM Grand, where Mr. Las Vegas (Wayne Newton) will tell them their next clue.  The other teams made mistakes and had to reorganize, and make sure they were counting right. Sam & Dan were done next.

He told them that the finish line is at his home.

Sam & Dan were very excited to meet Mr. Las Vegas, but weren't sure what his name was.

The first entrance that Cheyne & Meghan got to was not open, so they had to look for another one.

The finish line, with all the other teams clapping for them, saw Meghan & Cheyne arrive first.  I am happy.  I did not want the brothers to win, because they were so irritating.  Meghan & Cheyne had their moments where I didn't like them much, but at the end, they were the best team out there.

Sam & Dan came in second, and still love each other through all the bickering.  Brian & Ericka are last to come in, and are still happy to have made it.  They would have been happier with a million dollars, but the finished the race all the same.

Good season.  I didn't find as many of the teams as dynamic as in past seasons, so I hope for better teams next season. And of course, I wish that I hadn't missed the first half of the finale.  Boo, dvr mishaps!

Are you happy with who won?

Amazing Race - 11.29.09

Another leg in Prague, looks like!

Meghan & Cheyne are off first, to the Spanish Synagogue.  Brian & Erika are going to have to do a Speed bump before continuing on to the Ekotechnique museum, on the outskirts of town.

Roadblock

One person must enter a Kafka-esque room full of ringing phones, and find the phones that have someone on the other end.  They will hear letters to spell out Franz, which they then have to unscramble.

They can't write anything down, so Meghan made the probably smart decision to say the letters aloud, and associate an animal with them.  She got the letters, and then had to go fill out a form with a lot of very minute questions, set to mess her up and make her forget the letters.  She got it right on her second try, before Sam & Dan even got there.

After the Roadblock, teams headed to Kryocentrum to the next clue.  Meghan & Cheyne tried to take Sam & Dan's cab, who wouldn't go with them, but called them another cab.

Sam (or Dan, I still can't tell them apart) got the letters, but had to go a couple of times to get it right.

At Kryocentrum, teams must strip down to their skivvies and endure 180 below zero for 2 minutes (gloves, mask, and shoes also provided), which is apparently some sort of holistic treatment.

I'll keep my nice Scandinavian Sauna, thanks.

For the Speed Bump, Erika & Brian need to find the M1 Lounge and prepare a shot of absinth according to traditional methods before continuing on.  They then have to drink the absinthe.  Brian doesn't drink at all, so it is a challenge for him.  They did not look like they enjoyed the absinthe at all.

Sam (or Dan) was completely stymied.  The Globetrotter said he got the words "F-R-A-N-Z" but couldn't figure out that was the word they were looking for.  He and Sam (or Dan) worked together.  And failed.  Miserably.  Again and again.

Meghan & Cheyne emerged from the Kryotank and got their next clue, which sent them to the Charles Bridge.

I love the Charles Bridge.  There is a cross in gold on it that you have to touch to make sure you return to Prague, and we touched it with glee.  Can't wait until it brings us back.

Finally, Sam (or Dan) got Franz right, and then refused to tell Big Easy what the word was, only saying it started with an F.  That was a douche move, because they agreed to work together.

Big Easy was still working on it when Brian arrived, shot of absinthe in him and all.

Detour

Legend - Teams have to cover a wooden golem skeleton with mud and transport it to a synagogue.

Lager - Teams must carry 30 beers from a brewery through the town square and to a bar.

Meghan & Cheyne chose Legend.

Meanwhile, back at the telephones, Big Easy was still working on it when Brian had gotten all his letters and began.  Brian got it really quickly, and left Big Easy in his dust.  So much for the speed bump.  Big Easy decided to take the 4 hour penalty for not finishing the Road Block.  Wow.  I'm thinking, good bye, Globe Trotters.  Unless there is some sort of bottleneck...

Meghan & Cheyne finished their Golem and headed to the synagogue.  The golem was super heavy and they had to cross roads with him.  Meghan got really frustrated at Cheyne for yelling and not letting her help.  She stayed calm and it was actually kind of nice.

Sam & Dan finally arrived at the Detour and also chose Legend.

Erika doesn't like being cold.  She's from Florida and didn't even see snow until she was 21.  Needless to say, she did not enjoy the Kryocentrum.  They survived it, though.

Sam & Dan immediately knocked the arm off their golem.   I really hope that they fail.  They are annoying the crap out of me.

Erika & Brian decided to do Lager.  He used to be a server, so they think it shouldn't be too bad.  They were harassed along the way by revelers.

Meghan & Cheyne are heading to the Pit Stop, Strelecky Ostrov, an island in the river that the Charles Bridge goes over.  They were first.  They won a 52" LCD HD TV each for coming in first.

Sam & Dan asked a cabbie where to find the synagogue, and headed on their way, whining and yelling all the way.  I really can't stand them.

Brian dropped one glass, and then Erika dropped her whole tray, and she decided that she wanted to switch to the other task.  Brian urged her to keep trying.  There were a lot of drunk people walking by them trying to take the beers.  Not good.  They got the first batch of beers to the bar and headed back.  Erika was yelling like crazy at people trying to get the beer off their trays.  I can't say I blame her.

At the synagogue, Sam & Dan's golem got the ok, sadly.  They came in second at the Pit Stop.

Erika & Brian headed to the Pitstop next.  They were so happy to come in third, it was so cute.

The Globe Trotters finished their penalty and got a clue to head to the Pit Stop.  They didn't have to slog through everything else.  They were just done.  I'm sad, because I liked them, but I think they should have kept trying with the letters.  He knew the first letter was F.  How hard could it be to figure that out?  Oh, well.

Next week - Season Finale in Las Vegas!

Amazing Race - 11.22.09

From the marsh, Megan & Cheyne are the first to leave Estonia, and head to Prague.

Once in Prague, they have to get to old town square, and then find a Praga, which they have to figure out is a vintage car.

They have NO MONEY for this leg of the race.  Tricky.

I love Prague.  My husband and I went there in 2001.

Sam & Dan prove that they are really undereducated, and ask if they speak Spanish in Prague.  The other one said, "No, it's a country."  Um... not really.  It's a city in a country.  Nice try, though.

At the airport, Megan & Cheyne find that the first flight is at 5:20 AM, heading to Riga, and then connecting to Prague at 8:15.  All of the other teams find the same answer to the travel on the internet.  When Megan & Cheyne went to check the internet, also, and saw the picture of the Praga, and Megan decided to tell the other teams that it is something other than a car.

All the teams got on the same flight.

Why, Hello, Prague.  Miss you.

Everyone takes a taxi, except for Ericka & Brian, who took the shuttle.  I don't know how they are going to be paying for these forms of transportation, since they got no money.  They must be able to use the money leftover from previous legs.

Sam & Dan thought a Praga might be a coat or a robe.

The teams must find Kayaka Troya, an outdoor adventure center.  And, Goodbye, Old Town Square.  (I love that Astronomic Clock.  It's stunning).  Dan is annoyed at how much Sam loves seeing the sights.  I am annoyed at how annoying Dan is.

Brian & Ericka made the wrong decision, and were very slow in making their way into the city.  They stopped and snagged a taxi to try to get there more quickly.  They were already in last place.

Meghan & Cheyne got to the Kayaka Troya first.

Detour

Fast and Furious - Teams take a rough ride down a man made white water rafting course, and grab a ribbon with their next clue.  If they tip over, they have to try again.

Slow and Steady - Teams must walk across a ropes course and retrieve their clue.

Sam & Dan did Fast, while Meghan & Cheyne and The Globetrotters chose Slow.

Immediately, Sam & Dan started bickering like crazy.  I really have come to hate their bitching.

Ericka & Brian finally found their clue, and headed to the Detour.

The Globe Trotters had troubles with the ropes course because they are so tall, and heavy, they were touching the water.  It certainly didn't look like a walk in the park.  Big Easy was having the worst time.

I must admit I giggled a bit when the brothers capsized.

Meghan & Cheyne finished the detour first.  Unfortunately, Flight Time started going slowly down the ladder and they couldn't get down until he was off.  He took his sweet time getting down.  Big Easy kept struggling.

Teams must get to the Estates Theatre, as indicated by writing on the ribbons they collected on the detour.

And the Brothers went over AGAIN.  They decided to switch to slow.  Right then, Brian & Ericka arrived.  They are doing Slow, as well.  Ericka is not fond of water, and Brian doesn't like heights.  Fun.  Many squabbles ensued, for both teams.

Meghan called to the Globe Trotters to follow them to the tram, and then Meghan & Cheyne grabbed a taxi that I think the Globetrotters flagged down.  Meghan was not happy about Cheyne being rude, and he wondered where her competitive spirit was.

Roadblock

Who Can Remain Composed Under Pressure?

The opera house is where Don Giovanni was first performed, and they have to search through the seats of the opera house and find a miniature mandolin, and then bring it on stage to Don Giovanni himself.

I really wish that they had done something with the Marionette Don Giovanni shows that are constantly going on in Prague.  That's something else.

It was pretty funny when Cheyne brought the wrong instrument up to the actor first, and he just laughed at him and said "No."

There are lots of decoy instruments in the seats.  That's tricky.

At the Detour, Sam & Dan finished and tried to steal the taxi that Brian & Ericka had waiting for them.  They told the cabbie they would pay him extra, and he agreed.  That was not cool.

At the Roadblock, the Globe Trotters were annoyed with Meghan's constant calling for Cheyne.

Ericka & Brian found a house and the nice people there called a cab for them.  That was really sweet.

Dan found a case for a miniature instrument, but no instrument.  Flight Time Showed off some good pipes and sang for Big Easy.  Big Easy found the empty case and got laughed at.

Finally, Cheyne found the case that did have an instrument in it, and off they went.  The Globe Trotters were happy to not listen to Meghan anymore.  Dan found it next.  Right as they were leaving, Ericka & Brian showed up.  The Brothers avoided eye contact with the team they screwed over.  The Globe Trotters finally found the instrument, and the Brothers (ironically) had a hard time getting a taxi and barely got to the castle in front of the Globetrotters.

And the Pit Stop is the fabulous Prague Castle.  It is really stunning.  Rulers have been defenestrated there throughout history.

Meghan & Cheyne arrived first and won a trip to Hawaii.  Sam & Dan managed to get to the Pit Stop in second place, with the Globe Trotters hot on their heels.

Ericka continued to search for the instrument, as Don Giovanni took a break and ate a sandwich.  She did find it, and off they went to the castle.

And, it's a non-elimination leg!  Again!  Brian & Ericka are safe.  Insane.  I'm glad.  I really want the brothers out.

How about you?  Were you happy to see this non-elimination leg?

Amazing Race - 10.25.09

Who's excited to see Mika lose it completely over a big giant water slide?  I know I am!

Meghan & Cheyne are first, and they have to choose a locked briefcase, and then head to the Dubai Marina and golf course.

Road Block
One Team member must row an inflatable dinghy to a yacht, and get a watch as a gift from a shiek.  They then have to get back to the briefcase and figure out that the time on the watch is the combination to the briefcase. (the other team member can help with that)

Cheyne was the first out on the water.  Cheyne had no problem with figuring out the combination, and they were off to the water taxi at the next stop.

Matt took time during the pit stop to re-dye his pink hair.

Ericka & Brian were next to the dinghy, and he had some troubles, but managed to get to the boat.  His hands were bleeding when he was done.

The poor Globetrotters got a cabbie who brought them to the wrong marina.  Oh, not good.

Gary is a canoer, and decided to lean forward and row with one   He did it, but it looked painful.

The Globetrotters had a terrible time getting the combination on the case.  They didn't seem to get it.  It was on 8:35 - But they were stuck on one hand being on the 8 and the other on the 7.  Duh.  They watched while every other team opened it with no trouble.  Finally, they figured it out.

Mika had Canaan do the rowing because she's scared of water.  Add that to her fear of heights.  Check, and check.

Detour

Gold - Teams must find a jewelry store and weigh out $500,000 worth of gold, according to the constantly changing gold rate shown on a screen.

Glass - Teams must get a crate at a glass shop and assemble 12 complex hookas

Cheyne & Meghan went for Glass.  They set up in the shade, which was smart.  They got them all together but missed some pieces.  Frustration abound.  Finally, they found the washers that needed to be in place and headed off.

Ericka & Brian did Gold.  They had troubles with the gold value changing   They gave up after a while and went to Glass.  They set up right in the sun and didn't think that colors mattered.  But they do.  And their pieces got very hot.  They had some very serious problems, but finally got it right.  It apparently took them 2 hours to finish the Detour.

Sam & Dan started out with Gold, and ingeniusly, they had brought a $2 calculator from Walmart before they went on the race.  They couldn't figure out how to calculate the exchange rate, but luckily, they are friendly with the Poker Girls.  They lent the calculator to them, and the Poker girls helped them with the exchange rate problem.  They worked together, and finished together.  That's ultra-teamwork.

Matt had a hard time with the heat in Glass, and Mika claimed that she wished she were naked, also because of the heat.

The Globetrotters decided to switch to Gold after seeing the problems other people had.  They borrowed a calculator from someone to do the task.  Smart.

The next place is the Atlantis The Palms Dubai resort, and they have to search for the six story vertical water slide that goes through a shark tank.  Yes, that's right.  I would be terrified of it as well.

Meghan & Cheyne went first, and she was a little scared of the real sharks in the tank, but they both did it with almost no hesitation.

The Poker Girls and Sam & Dan went down with nary a second thought.

Though Ericka is afraid of water, and Brian is afraid of heights, they both went for it.  Good for them.

Matt & Gary went down whooping in joy.

Mika & Canaan?  They are facing problems.  Mika has little water wings, and won't even go near the water slide, no matter how much Canaan cajoled her.  He offered to walk her to the slide.  Then, he tried to push her onto it, and she was a fit of shrieks.  She couldn't say enough how stupid stupid stupid the stunt was, and he said she was breaking her heart.  She said a little prayer, and sat down on the slide, and held onto the bar, and he tried to help her let go, but she whined about how much she hates her life.  She asked Canaan why he hates her, and he didn't deny it, but just said it was because it was a stupid slide.

The Globe Trotters showed up, while Mika was crying about the slide.  That gave them a time limit.  They have 2 minutes to go when another team is behind them.  The Globe Trotters started trash talking, and Mika ran out of time.  Down the Globe Trotters went with no problems.  Mika called Big Easy a piece of crap.

Finally, Canaan decided to go down first, and Mika was left back at the top crying.  She walked down the stairs and gave up.

The Pitstop is at the resort, and it's Dolphin Bay Beach.

Meghan & Cheyne came in first.  Good for them.  They celebrated with a jump in the ocean.  They each won a personal watercraft.

The Poker Girls finished second, followed closely by Sam & Dan. Ericka & Brian were next.  Matt & Gary showed up next, followed by the Globe Trotters, and then quitter Mika and Canaan.  They are out of the race because she couldn't get over her fear.

I know I would have been terrified of such a high slide, but I'd like to believe I could suck up my fear for a million dollars.  Truly.

Amazing Race 10.18.09

From Cambodia, they have to get to the Burj Dubai, with only the clue of flying to the Persian Gulf and going to the world's highest building (still under construction) in Dubai.  They have to get there, and take an elevator to the top.

Thank goodness for the internet cafe, and teams were able to do some easy research.  Ericka knew it was in Dubai, and the Globe Trotters were able to get their research down in no time.  Sam and Dan think that the Persian Gulf is a country, but discover that they need to go to an actual country.  Lance & Keri plan on getting married no matter what because they have non-refundable deposits for the wedding.  They get bad connections at the Internet cafe, but end up getting on the same flight as everyone else.

Maria & Tiffany get to the list for sign ups first, followed by Brian & Ericka and then Dan & Sam, and they get signed up for the 5:30 AM ride in the elevatore. Cheyne & Megan manage to get the last spot on that elevator ride.  Mika & Canaan did some yelling at their cabbie, and get the next group, along with Lance & Keri, The Globe Trotters, and Gary & Matt, who are all taking the 5:45 elevator.

The 5:30 AM group headed up, and, waiting for her trip up, Mika was crying at the base of the building. She hates heights.  The first group got the next clue, and they don't have to jump off the building or anything.. they have to go to marked cars and go to the Dubai Dessert Reserve.

There is a Fast Forward - the only one in the race.  They can go to the Dubai Autodrome, drive a F1 race car, and complete the lap in 45 minutes.

Hilariously, Lance & Keri again take a wrong turn in the parking structure and can't find the marked cars.  Bwah ha ha.  It took them a long time (seemingly) to find it, and then Lance didn't want to ask for directions.

Cheyne & Megan hopped in to the fast forward, and they were the only ones who went for it.

Sam & Dan, Ericka & Brian, and Maria & Tiffany got to the Dessert Reserve first.   It's a Roadblock.

Who thinks they can beat the dessert heat?

One person will choose a traditional bag, and search for buried water urns in the dessert, and fill their bags.  It is insane to try to find the urns.  Tiffany, Dan and Brian went off in search, followed by Big Easy.  The first couple urns didn't have any water, and they had to search a seemingly long time for them.

Cheyne's first trip around the track at the Fast Forward was 40 seconds - they passed the Fast Forward, so to the Pit Stop with them - and they get to ride in a Mazaratti.  Nice.  Megan didn't like having to give up control while Cheyne did the task by himself.

Brian got the water first, and told Tiffany and Dan where the water was.  Good for him.  Dan broke his ladle, but Tiffany let him use hers.  Nice.

From there, on to Ski Dubai, an indoor ski area.  On the way there, Brian told Canaan & Mika how to get to the desert reserve.  He believes in karma.

Problem in the parking lot - Maria backed over something and her radiator was gone in the car.  Ouch.  Punctured.  Sam & Dan decided to wait with them because of the ladle incident.  That might be a bad decision.  A new car is dispatched for Maria & Tiffany.

While Lance & Keri were still lost, Megan & Cheyne got to the mat first and Phil congratulated them with a trip to Jamaica.

After being super hot, the Ski Dubai was welcome.

Detour

Build a Snowman - Teams have to carry snow from inside to outside and build a traditional snowman before it melts.

Find a Snowman - Teams must sled down a ski hill, find a tiny snowman inside a hill and turn it over to a polar bear to get their next clue.

Meanwhile, back in the dessert, Lance was finding empty urns and throwing them in the dessert.  Real mature.  Mika was confused by the metric speedometer.

Brian & Erika were the first team to find the snowman.  It was tiny.  Good job for her.  Off to the pit stop with them.

Lance & Keri whined about going the wrong direction, and finally turned around.

At the detour, a couple teams switched to the Building of a snowman. The Globe Trotters found the little snowman.  When they were leaving to get to their car, they ran into Canaan & Mika, and warned them to go back to the car and get their cold gear.  That was nice.

The Globe Trotters came in next, followed by Gary & Matt, Sam & Dan, Maria & Tiffany, and Mika & Canaan.  Lance & Keri came in last.  I was almost sure that they were going to end up with a non-elimination leg, just because the world is unfair to me, but happily, they are out.  Now who am I going to root against?  I kind of like everyone else...

What do you think?

Lance & Keri took a wrong turn because Lance wasn't listening to Keri.

Amazing Race - 10.11.09

I hate football and I love my dvr.  Did have to record the show on after The Amazing Race in order to see it in it's entirety.. anyhow...

From Ho Chi Minh City, the Globe Trotters are off foires, to Phnom Pehn, Cambodia, and they need to find the Correspondent's Club, find the Assignment Editor, and ask for their next assignment in a whisper for their next clue.

I love the Globe Trotters.  I just do.

The other teams follow behind them, and they find out that the only flight is not leaving until the next day, at 12:25 PM.   Lance & Keri are still super annoying.  Zev & Justin got a slow cab driver.  Bwah ha ha.... the first flight was booked up right before Lance & Keri got to the counter.  They are booked (with Justin & Zev) on a 2:15 PM flight, but got on standby for the first flight.

Can I just say that I really hate when everyone gets on one flight?  It seems to not make it as much of a race.  Both Lance & Keri and Zev & Justin got standby seats, and everyone arrived in Cambodia at the same time.

Zev & Justin, Sam & Dan, and Megan & Cheyne got to the Correspondent's Club first.

Their next clue was a photograph of Jackie O, and it said "This woman has a hotel suite named after her," and they have to find the hotel.

The ther teams arrive to get their clue, but Mika and Canaan were denied their clue because they didn't understand the importance of whispering, and he asked for his task instead of his assignment.  He finally figured it out, and off they went.

All the teams headed to the Royal Hotel, but pretty much no one knew that it was Jackie O in the picture.

Detour

Cover - Teams must locate a helmet stand and get four helmets, and sell them to a family of four - two adults, and two children, for $10 total, and return the money to the stand.

Wrap - Teams must go to a Russian market, and get an intricate scarf from the shopkeeper, and then find a woman wearing the exact same scarf.

Everyone chose Wrap, until Lance & Keri, who chose Cover.  I hope that it is ridiculously hard.

Zev & Justin finished first, and their next clue sent them to travel on foot about 2 km to their next clue.  Sam & Dan finished next.  The Globe Trotters got some help from some women from Pennsylvania. Ericka & Bryan got really lucky and found their scarf wearing woman right off.

I am so bummed that Lance & Keri managed to sell their helmets and head to the next task with seemingly little difficulty.

Roadblock

One person must wear a monkey mask and tail and learn to do three monkey maneuvers to their monkey masters' satisfaction.

Zev did the task and did a really great job on the first two tasks, but had a really hard time with the last one, and nearly passed out (or at least freaked out a little).  Sam & Dan arrived next and managed to pass them and to the pit stop with them.   No one seemed to have a really hard time with it except for balance issues on the last move.  Keri did the task for their team, and Lance did a whole lot of yelling at her, as she did a whole lot of yelling back.

The Pit Stop is Wat Pnom, and it is beautiful.

Zev & Justin arrived first.  I think that Sam & Dan got a slow cab.  For their leg win, they won no further amazing trip.  Bummer.  Sam & Dan came in 2nd, followed by the Globe Trotters....

And... crap.

Zev & Justin can't find Zev's passport!!  They had to go back and ask Phil what they could do.  They need to find the documents, or they will be out of the race.  The search is on!  Phil advised them to thoroughly search their backpacks, though that yielded no backpack.  They have to find it before the last team arrives, or they are out.

Luckily, they had their cabbie's card, and they called him and he agreed to come back and help them look.

Bryan & Erika arrived third (not counting Zev & Justin) at the Pit Stop, followed by Gary & Matt, and Megan & Cheyne, then Lance & Keri (boooo), then Mika & Canaan, and Maria & Tiffany... the passport was no where to be found.

I'm bummed for Justin & Zev, because it is a heck of a way to leave the game... I wouldn't want to lose my passport in Cambodia.  To the American Consolate with them!

Next week - Dubai!

Amazing Race - 10.4.09

The pit stop from the previous leg was a boat, and they traveled to a different city in Vietnam.  Teams have to taxi to Ho Chi Minh and look for a Water Dragon Puppet Theatre for their next clue.

Gary and Matt were off first.  The Brothers had a hard time getting a taxi.  One of the Globe Trotters (I think Big Easy) lost his dad right before the race.  Lance and Keri thought they were already in Ho Chi Minh City, not knowing that they had moved to a new city during the pit stop.  Finally, a local told them that they were not in the right place.  It was emotional for Marcy to be in Vietnam, because her dad was shot down in the war (and survived).

The Globe Trotters were the first ones to reach the theatre, and they had tograb their clue from the mouth of a water spouting dragon puppet. Fun.

Their clue is a tiny capsule with a stamp in it - and they have to figure out that they need to go to the building on the stamp.

Matt and Gary got their clue no problem, and Zev and Justin also did well.

At the building, it's a Detour.

Child's Play - Teamshave to choose a concrete animal at a local park and pick up five balloons along the path to the playground.

Word Play - Teams have to go to an observation deck and look for letters on the tops of vehicles.  Once they get the right letters, they have to get a local to help them decode the letters into a word.

The Globe Trotters chose Child's Play.  Smart choice, in my opinion.

Back at the puppet theatre, Lance & Keri are clueless about opening the capsule, and think they have lost their clue someplace. I think Keri has to have the most annoying voice ever.  It's like Janice from Friends mixed with Fran Drescher.  Not pretty.

Seems that mostly everyone chose Child's Play.... except for Marcy & Ron.  And Marcy has a whistle for use in taxi hailing.  It may be annoying, but it seems to work.

The Globe Trotters got their next clue, which sent them to Dien CO 008, a busy intersection where they will find their next clue.

Keri & Lance had trouble finding the clue box at the building.

Marcy & Ron were doing a good job spotting the letters, but they got one wrong, so had to start again.  When they finally got all the letters, they missed the part where they are supposed to ask for help deciphering the words... they looked like crazy all over the place for a word with those letters.  Finally, they got help and made their word, heading to the next clue.

Zev & Justin ended up getting a giraffe, and that was akward to maneuver.  It fell and the ear broke off.  Oops.  Luckily, Zev can read clues and noticed that it said that if any piece breaks, they have to pick up all the pieces so they can get balloons. Maria & Tiffany's dolley broke, and Sam & Dan went back to help them, but they told them to go ahead.  Ericka & Brian chose a zebra "because it worked so well for" them - showing clasped black and white hands.

I think this is one of those detours that doesn't look as hard as it is.  Tiffany was sweating up a storm.   Lance & Keri managed to knock over some of the things at the

Roadblock - Who's Ready for a Complete Breakdown?

They have to work in a chop shop, and break down, disassemble, and sort 2 VCRs.

The Globe Trotters finished first, and are heading to the Pit Stop at the Reunification Palace.  Unfortunately, cab drivers seemed to have no idea where this historic place is.  They finally got some help, but not before Cheyne & Meghan got in front of them.  In the foot race for first place, no one could beat the Globe Trotters.  They won a trip for two to Aruba.  Cheyne & Meghan were happy for them wanted to tackle them, I think.

Gary & Matt came in next.

Lance & Keri continued to bicker and get lost and complain about everything.  I really hope they lose.  Justin was taking forever at taking the VCRs apart.  When Lance got there, he decided it was the "man thing to do" to rip the thing apart with his hands.  Well, it did get it done quickly.  While Justin still worked on his VCR, Ron came in and made short work of the VCRs.

Brian & Ericka came in fourth on the mat, followed by Sam & Dan.  Tiffany & Maria were next, and then Mika & Canaan.  Whgile looking for the pitstop, Keri & Lance again got lost, allowing Zev & Justin to come in 8th, with Lance & Keri coming in next.  Lance declared he is the most competetive person in the game. I think he's just a jerk.

Sadly, Marcy & Ron came in last, and were eliminated from the race.  Goodbye, Marcy's Whistle.

Next week, a passport is lost.  Cue ominous music.  I hope it's Keri & Lance.

Yay for a New Season - Amazing Race 9.27.09

The race this season is starting in downtown LA - in the LA River, which was used in Terminator 2 and Grease, including other movies.  Very cool.

Ericka & Brian - She's a former Miss America, and they've been married for two years.

Lance & Teri- They're engaged from Massachussettes.  They seem cocky.

Maria & Tiffany - They are professional poker players.

Zeb & Justin - Best friends from LA, and Zeb has Aspergers.

Mika & Canaan - newly dating from Tennessee.  The obligatory super religious couple.

Flight time & Big Easy - Harlem Globe Trotters.  Cool.

Sam & Dan - Brothers from Missouri.  Both are gay.

Gary & Matt - Father and son trying to reconnect.

Eric & Lisa - Married Yoga instructors.  They were doing some pretty awesome yoga moves, but then lost me by being so zen that they rode a motorcycle without helmets.

Garrett & Jessica - On and off dating couple.  She's fiery and Colombian.

Marcy & Ron - Dating from San Francisco.  They are an older couple and met online.

Megan & Cheyne - Dating from San Diego.  They met each other in elementary school.

Phil greets them and tells them that their first clue is in the top of the luggage they brought.  There is a new challenge in the game that will have a devastating effect on one team - who will have a very short race.  Their first challenge is described in their clue,  and the slowest person on that task will be eliminated immediately.  Ouch.

They have to fly to Tokyo after their first task.  They have to search the wall of license plates (over 1000) to find one from the region of Tokyo they are going to.  Whoever loses doesn't get to go to Japan.  The symbol is on the top of the clue, but everyone was so frantic, it wasn't immediately clear.  Zev & Justin were the first ones to notice the clue.  Maria & Tiffany were the first team to find the plate, and then others lined up to try to get to Phil.  It was down to yoga instructors and cocky Lance and Keri for the final plate.  Cocky Lance & Keri got it first, and the yoga instructors are sent packing back to their helmetless motorcycle.

There are two flights out of LA.  The first 6 teams are leaving at 12:45 PM, and the others are leaving 30 minutes later.  The poker players decided to tell people that they work with homeless kids instead of playing poker.

Once they get to Tokyo, they have to find a taxi and get to the TV studio at the base of the Tokyo tower.  Is that where they film I Survived a Japanese Gameshow?   The first couple to get in a fight is the poker players.  The second flight made up some time and ended up landing at the same time, pretty much.

The teams will be surviving a Japanese Gameshow themselves, it looks like!  They arrived to a cheering crowd at the television station, and they have to play "Sushi Roulette."

Roadblock

One person must play sushi roulette, and spin a wheel containing 9 sushi rolls and 2 wasabi bombs.  They have to continue playing until they get a wasabi bomb (Nori with rice and lots and lots of wasabi).  They have 2 minutes to eat the wasabi bomb.

I just have to say, I would love to play that game.  Ron and Cheyne both got wasabi bombs right off.  Ron smushed some of the wasabi down into his rice, and it was very smart.  Still, if I was playing, I would shove as much as possible into my mouth at once.  Wasabi burn is crazy, but it isn't a long lasting burn.

Ron and Cheyne got the wasabi bombs done.

Next, they have to gather people in the crowd with the same colored visors, and lead them through the streets to their destination, the shrine at Konahashi Magu.

Garrett and Justin were next getting wasabi bombs.   They both got them down no problem.

Marcy & Ron were like cheerleaders with their visored tourists, and Cheyne & Meghan asked for directions...  both seemed to get kind of lost.  Zev & Justin found an American to show them the way.

Maria is next with the wasabi bomb.  She didn't quite get it done in 2 minutes and had to go again.  She ended up with another wasabi bomb on the next spin.  She told Tiffany that she couldn't do another one, but then she did pick it up to go.  She was right down to the wire with the next one, but managed to get it down, and they were on their way.  Lance & Big Easy were up next for the wasabi.  Big Easy swallowed it right down, and they played some light Harlem Globetrotters music in the background.  Lance finished his up, too.  Gary and Brian finally got their bombs.  Brian had a really hard time, but Gary managed to get his down.  Brian didn't get it down in time.  Dan finally got his shot at the wasabi bomb.  He loves sushi and finished in record time.  I have to hope that I could be as good as him.

I love wasabi.  I wish I had some sushi right now.

Cheyne & Meghan were the first team to arrive at the mat, and got the coveted first position.  They won a trip for two to Aspen and Vale, with all sorts of cool things.  I wonder if Cheyne will be able to keep up the wall o' hair.  Zev & Justin are at the mat next, and Zev is proud of himself for doing ok without his daily routine.

I have to say, the Harlem Globetrotters are wonderful for leading a crowd, because you couldn't miss them.

Lance & Keri managed to get to the mat third and were proud of themselves.

Maria & Tiffany helped Sam & Dan, who bought into their homeless kid story.  Of course, Maria & Tiffany also think that Sam & Dan might be swayed by their feminine wiles, so I guess it goes both ways.

Marcy & Ron and Life Time & Big Easy came in 4th and 5th, respectively.

Brian & Ericka, after getting to the street last, found someone to help them, and off they went.  They got their 6th!  That's pretty impressive.  Good for them. Gary & Matt came in 7th.

Tiffany & Maria got lost and lost a couple of their people.  Garrett & Jessica got to the Matt 8th, despite having to stop to let one of their people go to the bathroom.

Sam & Dan got to the mat 9th.  Mika & Canaan got there 10th, but had a straggler who they couldn't find.  She came around the corner as they left to go find her, and Mika carried her to the mat.

Maria & Tiffany decided to give up on finding their people and got to the mat.  They incurred a 2 hour penalty for not completing the challenge, but it's a non-elimination leg.  There will be a Speed Bump for them, though.  I'm glad that it was a non-elimination stop.

*****

Meghan & Cheyne leave first for Vietnam.  They will go to Ho Chi Minn City, then take a 2 hour bus to their next clue.  Cheyne's hair looks like a porcupine.  Lance & Keri are already starting to have problems with each other.  Everyone went to the internet cafe to try to book flights, except Brian & Ericka, and Gary & Matt who headed to the airport immediately.

We get to know that Mika and Canaan are "sexualy pure."  How nice for them.

Everyone got on the same flight, because Brian & Ericka begged for reassignment.  Maria & Tiffany's bluff was called (ha ha ha) when they were recognized.  I think Dan and Sam were the ones to hear it.  Then, they admitted to falling a little in love with Dan & Sam.

Zev didn't want to get his feet wet, which was going to be a problem because the streets were pretty well flooded.  He took his shoes off to wade.

The first bus left at 3:30 and the second bus left at 4:45.  That's a lot of time to make up.  The teams each donated money to buy up the remaining tickets and get the bus to leave earlier.  Zev gave his jacket to a guy who looked like he needed it, and that was super sweet.

The dock is closed when the teams get there, so it doesn't matter that the bus left early.  They all spent the night, grabbed camp chairs, and ate yummy looking food.

Detour
When the dock opened, they had to travel by boat to mud pits, gather mud, and fertilize a tree by adding mud up to a line.

Speed Bump
Maria & Tiffany have to get ingredients for Pho and then make and serve the soup to dockmaster's liking.  They did well because Maria loves Pho and has served it before.

Mika is afraid of water.  Not easy in the race.

The mud pits were really thick mud and lots of people got very very dirty.  Ericka described it as sensual, though she admitted to never having been a mud girl.

After finishing, teams must return their boat to the dock and then travel by foot to the next clue.  Zev & Justin lost their clue when Justin fell in the water.  They had to go back to get it.  Then, their boat stalled long enough to let Maria & Tiffany catch up.

Roadblock

Farmer use ducks to get rid of insects in the rice paddy.  They have to lead a flock of 150 sucks from their pen, across a bridge and back again within 10 minutes.  They have a flag to help them in the herding.

Meghan got her try first.  Jessica went next, followed by Ericka, and Matt.

After they finished (and it was no easy task), to the Pit stop with them.

Ericka forgot to shut her gate at the other end of the bridge and lost a bunch of her ducks.

Tiffany would seem to have an advantage because she had ducks growing up.  Zed did beautifully with the dugs, and Meghan (who had to try a second time) called him the Duck Whisperer.  Mika didn't know where she was going and had to try again.

Because of superior directionary skills, Gary & Matt came in first, and each of them won a kayak.  Flight Time & Big Easy and Sam & Dan came in 2nd and 3rd, and Keri & Lance came in 4th.  Zev & Justin came in 5th.  Meghan & Cheyne were 6th, followed by Maria & Tiffany. Mika & Canaan, and Mary & Ron came in 8th and 9th, respectively.

Brian & Ericka and Garrett & Jessica had lots of problems with their ducks.  Ericka vowed to eat duck for dinner after convincing her ducks to go in the pen.  Jessica and Garrett finished pretty soon afterwards.

Brian & Ericka came in 10th, which meant elimination for Garrett & Jessica.

What did you think?  I can't wait to see more next week. Any early favorites for you?

Finale Alert: The Amazing Race

The night started with a season recap, including Margie and Luke dealing with language difficulties and heat stroke, Jamie being loud and obnoxious, and Tammy and Victor learning to communicate with each other like grown ups.

The final destination city is Maui, Hawaii, and they have to get to Beach Access 118 when they get there.

Tammy and Victor are off first, but it didn't really matter who got out first, because they all ended up on the same flight. Out of the airport, Tammy and Victor got the first cab, followed by Jamie and Cara, and Margie and Luke.

Once they get to the beach, they have to prep a pig for a traditional island luau, and then carry it 200 yards, then properly cover it to be cooked, before getting the next clue.

They changed into beachwear in the cabs. Jamie and Cara got into itty bitty green bikinis. Everyone talked about how gross it was, but off they went bearing pigs. Jamie and Cara had to drop the pig several times, and were passed by Margie and Luke. Margie and Luke also passed Tammy and Victor. The other two had had a really hard time getting their pigs back up. Cara was totally weak, and so was Tammy. Jamie told Cara "This is how you lose a million dollars." Possibly, it is.. not as much as stopping to pee, but still, suck it up.

Tammy was crying and screaming, but they finally got to the pit, but not before Margie and Luke were all done.

The next stop was the beach at McGregor Point, where they have to search among 100 buoys to find their next clue,on a jet ski.

Tammy and Victor did the covering wrong and had to go back. They and Jamie and Cara finished about the same time, with Tammy and Victor having a slight lead.

Margie drove the jet ski, and she got annoyed at Luke for continually yelling at her. Then, she fell off the jet ski, and Luke fell off too. They still found the clue before the others got there. Tammy and Victor got the clue second.

The next stop is the Surfboard fence off the Hana Highway.

Roadblock

It's the traditional memory task - search through a giant pile of surfboards to find 11 that have pictures that correspond to things along their route, and build a surfboard fence with them in order.

Luke did the task, because he apparently had an amazing memory.

Jamie and Cara again ran into trouble with a cab driver who wasn't sure of where they were supposed to go. He was on the phone with his supervisor who said "You need to tell your people I am not their personal concierge, and I am not going to look for this place for them." Ummm... isn't getting people to a destination what taxi driver is paid to do? I mean, Jamie and Cara might not be the most pleasant people, but still. Finding locations is the job of a taxi driver. Am I wrong?

In the end, they ended up calling the police department to get directions. They got their directions, and then their cabbie stopped for gas. I would be livid if I were them.

Victor and Tammy got the the roadblock and Victor did the task. Luke was doing a great job, and both he and Victor ended up taking pants off because they kept falling off. Luke got one wrong! Oh no!

At least Jamie and Cara's cabbie only got a little bit of gas.

Isn't it funny? The two boards that Luke got wrong on his first try were the last two... Victor did some amazing catching up. He had a different tactic, though - he grabbed all the boards he though were right before trying to put them in any sort of order.

Jamie and Cara finally arrived, and Jamie was doing the task.

Luke was having the devil of the time getting the last two right. Jamie didn't seem to get the fact that not all of the surf boards represented things they had done. Luke was trying and trying and trying and Jamie was catching up to him, while Victor finished the task.. Luke decided to to work with Jamie, and he helped her find the first clue, and she helped him find the last ones. Good on them, I think that was only fair.

And now, it's a race to the finish line. Luke was really down on himself, and Jamie was kicking herself for forgetting the church.

It wasn't even close, as Tammy and Victor took the win. I'd say it was deserved, even though I was rooting for Margie and Luke. Tammy and Victor ran a good race, with only a couple spats that made me dislike them. Tammy found it funny that she won with no pants on. (She's got a t-shirt on over her bikini.)

I have to say, the Chinese-language heavy routes really did favor them, though.

Jamie and Cara came in second, and Jamie tried to put herself down for the final Roadblock, but Cara wouldn't have any of it, and let her know that it was a team game, and they were proud of each other.

Finally, Margie and Luke got to the mat, and Phil wanted Luke to admit that Margie is the bionic woman, and Luke expressed his gratitude for his mother being so wonderful and signing, because apparently, a lot of deaf people's parents don't sign, and he is so happy that she does.

What a good season. I just love this show. Waiting for next season now!

Are you happy with the results?

Amazing Race: 5.3.09

The leg continues! Will Jamie and Cara keep their lead? It looks like a good one.

They have to make their way to another place in Bejing. Margie and Luke arrive second to the non-pit stop pit stop. Margie is getting a little frustrated at being with Luke 24-7, even though she still loves him, I can understand that...

The location they went to next was a street mall, and they had to search stores for the Travelocity Traveling Gnome, which would have their next clue on it.

Jen and Kisha were pretty excited (to say the least) that their race was not over yet.

Margie and Luke found the gnome first, followed by Cara and Jamie. They were to go find some electric bicycles, and then bike past the Forbidden City.

Cara and Jamie again had troubles with language barriers, as their cabbie seemed to be ignoring them and didn't acknowlege if he knew anything about their destination.

Tammy and Victor found the bikes first, and then Margie and Luke, and Kisha and Jen. Luke almost barged into Jen on his bike. Don't know if it was intentional. They biked through Tienamen Square, and Tammy and Victor arrived first.

Detour

Bejing Opera - They have to make themselves up as opera characters (Gentleman and Princess) and pass inspection before getting their clue.

Chinese Waiter - They have to take restaurant orders in Mandarin and recite them back to the chef properly, and serve the orders properly, to get their clue.

Seems like Tammy and Victor would have quite the advantage with the Chinese Waiter task... and they did that task, so that was an easy choice. Victor said "If we can't do this task, mom and dad will kill us."

The others chose the Opera task.

Tammy and Victor got most of the orders right, but said Good Luck Squid instead of Fish, so got sent back to the table to take more orders.

At the opera house, Luke was not a good make up artist, and Margie said that Luke made her look like Alice Cooper. It was pretty bad. Luke said "Sorry, I'm not a girl." Luke then said he was finished. Since it is not possible for him to speak or hear Mandarin, I hope that he gives it another go - and he did. But, Kisha and Jen got the make up done first and went to get dressed.

Tammy and Victor got the orders right on the second try and waited for the orders to cook.

Jamie and Cara continued to have language difficulties. They were singing to the cab driver to get their destination across to him, and he brought them to the wrong opera house.

Tammy and Victor headed to the next stop, which was a U-Turn. It was not a blind one this time, and if someone is U-Turned, they have to do the other task. And ouch - Tammy and Victor U-Turned Jen and Kisha.

The teams (not U-turned) headed to a street market where they would find their next clue.

Margie and Luke headed out next. Meanwhile, Tammy and Victor got to the Roadblock. One person must eat a plate full of "crispy critters." Scorpions, starfish, grasshoppers, and beetle larvae. Fried. Victor was not happy, but chowed down. He didn't enjoy it, but he was very cheerful.

Kisha and Jen, meanwhile, wandered around the streets for a good long time looking for the next place. Margie and Luke were also looking in vain, but at least they didn't have a U-turn to look forward to.

And Cara and Jamie still had lots of troubles finding a taxi to take them to the right opera house, spewing a lot of hatred for China and the absense of empty cabs in the process. They finally found the opera house and did well with the makeup, and went out on the street looking for the U-Turn.

Margie and Luke got help and found the next clue, pleased that Kisha and Jen were U-turned.

After the Roadblock, it was Pit Stop time, and the pit stop was the Bird's Nest from the Olympics. Tammy and Victor arrived first, easily. They won a trip for 2 to the Galapagos Islands, with a trained naturalist as their guide. Amazing. I'd love a trip like that.

Margie went to eat, and seemed to do a good job. She didn't enjoy it, but she did it.

Jen and Kisha finally found the U-Turn and wentto the restaurant, still in Opera Dress. Their attempts are writing Mandarin phonetically resulted in such orders as "Monthly Use Taiwanese Chicken" instead of fried chicken, and "Good Western Heads Lack Fish" instead of Vegetarian noodles. Not so much. New taste Beef became "Oil Comes Again the Please the Mouth." Good Luck Fish became "Good Doll Basket Drum." Golden Pork Spareribs became "Light Competition Red Dishes I've Played Before." Frustrating, but hilarious. They finally got it right.

Cara and Jamie were completely annoyed because they just couldn't find the right place, and spent 3 hours looking. I can't blame them for being frustrated. They finally went to the opera hosue again, which was where the clue was, and then they found the next clue.

Kisha and Jen finished the second Detour before Jamie and Cara found the U-turn clue. ouch. Jen decided to eat the fried critters. While she was still eating, Cara and Jamie showed up and Cara decided to eat, and she ate fast. Jen was throwing up, and Cara was knocking it back like it was delicious. Jen was drinkig a ton of water, too, and had to pee, but finished up. Cara chewed her heart out, and Kisha and Jen were looking for a taxi, and it seemed close, but of course it always looks close. It seems to be down to taxi driver ability and running. Finally, Cara and Jamie seemed to get an awesome taxi driver.

Jen stopped to pee before going to the Pit Stop. That could kill them. It was a foot race to try to find Phil.

Jamie and Cara got the the mat third, and it was the pee stop that knocked Kisha and Jen out. She'll be regretting that pee for the rest of her life.

Next week, it's the Final 3, the season Finale. Jamie and Cara look to be pissing people off with their attitude, and there is a lot of running. Can't wait to see it!

I'm rooting for Margie and Luke. And you?

Margie and Luke got the the pit stop second.

Amazing Race - 4.26.09

Oh, how will this tension between Kisha and Jen and Luke and Margie effect this leg?

Teams are heading to Bejing, China, to go to a foot massage spa for their next clue. Kisha and Jen claim to be letting the personal battle go. Tammy and Victor again have an advantage with language (but what was that on Tammy's head in the interview? I think it was a furry hat the same color as her hair, and it was very odd). Margie and Luke plan to just play the game and forget about Kisha and Jen. Cara and Jamie just want to come in first.

Margie and Luke got the airport first. Margie and Luke discovered that the ticketing counter wouldn't take their credit card, and Kisha and Jen heard the problem and scooted over to the place where they could use their cards. Margie and Luke were not happy. Meanwhile, Tammy and Victor (using their language advantage) asked for seats as close to the front as possible. Then, they asked for the seating people to put the other teams as far back in the plane as possible.

While waiting for the plane, Kisha and Jen were wandering off by themselves, and Margie and Luke told the others (mainly Cara and Jamie) about the altercations at the mat. Cara and Jamie were aghast.

Out of the airport in Bejing, Tammy and Victor got the first cab, and their was a race to the cabs between Kisha and Jen and Margie and Luke. Cara and Jamie took up the rear, but passed Kisha and Jen. Their cabbie put on his blinkers and passed Margie and Luke as well.

At the massage parlor, it's a Roadblock. One person must get a foot massage, drinking a cup of medicinal tea, and endure a 10 minutes long kind of torturous massage, drink another cup of tea, and get the clue. If they call uncle, they must restart the massage from the beginning.

Cara and Jamie arrive first. Cara got the massage. Kisha and Jen found it second, and Kisha got the massage, and choked down the tea. They were both fighting through the pain. It looked pretty dreadful honestly. Tammy and Victor arrived, and Tammy got the massage. Kisha said that the massage should be illegal, and Cara said that having a baby must be easier. Tammy was pretty zen in the beginning. Luke decided to do the massage. And does Tammy know some sign language? It looked like she was signing with Luke.

Cara got through it, and headed to the next clue at an auditorium. Kisha headed out next. Luke and Tammy held hands and endured the pain. Cara, getting in the taxi, said "my feet are not feeling very good." Tammy was valiant, only complaining when it was over. Luke was biting his hat, and Margie had problems watching him in pain.

Everyone had troubles finding a cabbie who knew the place they were looking for, so people were heading to the place at about the same time. Tammy and Victor asked a cabbie if he knew where the place was (in Chinese), but Jamie and Cara were at the door of the cab in the first place, so I think they were justified in jumping in the cab. However, Tammy and Victor went to the right door. Cara and Jamie did not, so they took longer.

Detour

Sink - Teams try to master synchronized diving off of 3 m springboards, to hit the water at the same time.

Swim - Wear a Laser suit, like Michael Phelps'. Each member must complete 2 laps of the relay.

Tammy can't really swim, and neither can Jen, so they both did sink. Upon seeing the professionals to the diving, Victor announced "this is easy!" and they really messed up on their first one, and their second one, then very badly on their third one again.

Cara and Jamie decided to swim, as did Margie and Luke.

Jen was sure she was going to drown and didn't want to do the task. She was sure she was going to drown. I'm pretty sure that the race people wouldn't let them drown.

Cara and Jen did a pretty good job at the swimming, though the green line showing Michael Phelps' time was ridiculous. Kisha and Jen decided to switch to the swimming. Jen had on a floatation device and was still scared.

The laser suits made it difficult to breath, and Jen got even more freaked out, as Kisha pulled herself across the pool on the ropes.

Cara and Jamie finished first, and headed to the pit stop in the laser suits in order to save changing time.

Kisha and Ken switched back to the other task.

Cara and Jamie did about 9 1/2 minutes. Margie and Luke did about 8. Michael Phelps won the thing in about 4 minutes.

Kisha and Jen tried once, and then Jen freaked out a bit and didn't want to go again. Tammy and Victor were still trying, and ended up switching to the swimming.

Jen broke down crying and said that she wants to go home.

Tammy and Victor ended up finishing the swim in a little under 11 minutes.

Kisha and Jen decided to go back to the swimming, even if it takes forever.

Tammy and Victor headed out to a cab, and Victor got a really bad leg cramp and couldn't sit in the cab for a bit.

Kisha and Jen finished the swim in just over 18 minutes.

Jamie and Cara got the the Pitstop first - BUT the leg was not over, and Phil handed them a clue....

To be continued.

Drat. I was really hoping to see the end of the race for Kisha and Jen... *sigh*

Next week, Jamie and Cara continue to be culturally insensitive. Quote from next week: "This is why I didn't want to come to China. It sucks." Way to be open!

The Amazing Race: 4.19.09

The teams spent one night in Bangkok (yes, I went there again), and Margie and Luke are the first to depart for Guilin, China. When they get there, they have to go to Qing Xiu Lu (a street), and find a hair salon. Jamie and Cara are next, vowing to stay positive and have a good attitude. Tammy and Victor are next, excited to be going to China, because of their heritage. Tammy went to China for Spring break once, so I guess that makes her an expert. Kisha and Jen are about four hours ahead of Mark and Michael.

Margie and Luke managed to get on the first flight out, but I think there will be a bottleneck on a connection. Tammy and Victor and Cara and Jamie are on the next flight out, followed by Kisha and Jen, and then Mark and Michael.

The first flight in China connecting them to their final destination was delayed, but Kisha and Jen got on a different connecting flight and made it ito Guilin first. Lucky break. The others arrived not too much later, seemingly.

Tammy and Victor are excited, because they speak Madarin. Luke says he wishes they could go to an all-deaf country where everyone signed, so he could have the advantage. Tammy and Victor got to the hair salon right after Jamie and Cara and snagged the clue - they have to make their way to 24 Bridge. Jamie and Cara got the more knowledgeable taxi driver.

Kisha and Jen have a vendetta against Margie and Luke, becaus Margie and Like steered them wrong before. They had a collision at the clue box, and Luke got called a bitch by Jen. He did not like that one bit. His mom told him what had happened, and he was really upset. I agree.

Bridge 24 brings them to a Roadblock, where one team member must train a cormorant to retrieve fish for them, much like hunting dogs, to fill a basket. Tammy hoped to have the advantage because of the language advantage.

Unfortunately, cormorants don't speak Mandarin.

There was another collision at the clue box between Luke and Kisha this time. Kisha contended that Luke pushed her into the box, whereas Luke said that Kisha grabbed his arm and threw him back. I couldn't tell exactly what happened, but neither of them was being particularly courteous, that's for sure.

(Meanwhile, Mark and Michael have to wash and dry two women's hair at the hair salon - shampoo, wash, and dry)

Luke got bitten by his cormorant. Looked painful.

Kisha and Jen got their fish back to shore first, and have to make their way to Ancient South Gate for their next clue. Jamie and Cara finished up next, followed by Margie and Luke, who had a very slow boat driver.

Tammy's birds were naughty and flew away, instead of fetching her final fish. It finally returned to her and got the fish.

In cabs, there was more smackdown talk between Margie and Luke and Kisha and Jen. Margie suggested Luke just let it go, and I think that's a wise piece of advice.

Detour

Choreography - Teams must join a group of locals and learn a dance, then perform for judges in hopes of getting it right.

Calligraphy - Find a calligraphy station and copy calligraphy which will bring them to their next station... there are four (correct) stations. Several wrong ones. Good luck.

Kisha and Jen choose calligraphy, Jamie and Cara choose choreography, and Margie and Luke chose calligraphy (since Luke can't hear the music), as did Tammy and Victor. Jamie and Cara got "manhandled" by the couple teaching them the dance. It was amusing. Their first try in front of the judges was not acceptable, so they had to try again. They got it wrong the second time, too, and had no idea what they were doing wrong. They almost gave up and decided to try the calligraphy, but gave it one more try.

Tammy and Victor absolutely had an advantage being able to speak the language. Everyone else followed them, and got to the write stations that way. Tammy and Victor told the guy at the third station "We are Foreign born Chinese-Americans. If we do not win, our parents will cry themselves to death." Funny. (Unless of course, it's true).

They finished first and got the clue sending them to Banyan Lake, the Pit Stop. They have to go on foot. It's a foot race, that's for sure.

Jen & Kisha arrived first, followed by Tammy & Victor, and then Margie & Luke. Kisha and Jen won a trip for two to Barbados. Nice. They told Phil about the fighting between Luke and Kisha and Jen. Luke got really upset, and then Kisha and Jen laughed when Luke was signing angrily, and Margie's Mamma Bear came out.

Then, my dvr cut out, and I missed the end!! I just need to start recording Amazing Race until later, because there are always sports on which interfere, and though I love my dvr, it's kind of stupid, and can't catch such things... I'll find the end online to find out what happened...

The Amazing Race: 4.12.09

I was sad that the show was not on last week, so I am happy to see it back with a new episode tonight.

Tammy and Victor start out first, for Bangkok, Thailand. Cara and Jamie are next, and continue to yell at people. I hope that they stop that soon, because I want to like them. Michael and Mark are out next, followed by Margie and Luke. Luke worries about his mom in the heat, but she promises to drink lots of water. Kisha and Jen claim that they are getting along great and learning each other's tendencies. Foreshadowing?

All the teams ended up on the same flight. Margie and Luke got the first taxi out of the airport to get to a boat yard, followed by Kisha and Jen, Cara and Jamie, and Tammy and Victor. Kisha and Jen managed to pass Margie and Luke, but their taxi driver was lost, and asked Margie and Luke's driver for directions. Kisha and Jen's cab took off, but some passers by gave Margie and Luke's driver for different directions, and seemed to be heading in the right directions.

Margie and Luke reached the boat yard first, and got a Roadblock - one person must attach a propeller to a long hulled boat, and once it is working properly, they will get their next clue and be on their way. Margie took the task. Cara and Jamie arrived next, and Jamie took the task. Margie finished it with no problem. Victor chose to do the task when he and Tammy arrived, and so did Mark. Jamie finished it quickly, too, and they remembered to go back and get their bags (which they had unfortunately left in the cab, so it took a little while to retrieve them). Kisha and Jen arrived last, because of their bad directions. Mark and Michael decided that they didn't really need to go back and get their bags, sure that they would be coming back. Kisha and Jen decided the same thing. I think those could be bad ideas. Victor was not very mechanically inclined, and even though their guy told him that he had the propeller on right, it failed the first try, and he had to go back. It worked the second time. They decided to get their bags, which I think was a good idea.

The next clue brings them through the canals, and they have to navigate to their next clue.

(here I missed a few minutes, because of stupid sports)

I missed the directions for the Detour - but it is Broken Teeth (and a dentist) or Broken Record (singing - apparently karioke). Margie and Luke went to the Broken Teeth, and Jamie and Cara went to Broken Record. Mark and Michael (without their bags) were told that the boat yard is "too far, too far" and they can't get there. Kisha and Jen also worried about their bags.

So, it looks like the Broken Teeth is a nasty task of trying to match people with their dentures. At least they got masks and gloves and goggles. They have to match 5 people.

Jamie and Cara continued to be obnoxious about people not speaking English. Mark and Michael managed to get their cabbie to drive to them, but argued about whether they should be meet them at the task.

The karioke task is apparently sinigng with a bunch of Thai "girls" in a party taxi. Looks like fun. Tammy called them Mai Tai Trannies. This is a task that Luke could not have done. It looked like people had a good time, though. And yes, they were singing karioke in Thai.

Margie and Luke finished the Broken Teeth Task and headed to the Pit Stop. With no problems along the way, they got their first. And there was much rejoicing. They won a trip to Puerto Rico. Nice.

Kisha and Jen finished in the Party Taxi, but had no money because they didn't have their bags (or their shoes). They had to run to the pit stop. Cara and Jamie and Victor and Tammy were in a race to the pit stop next. Kisha and Jen managed to convince a cabbie to drive them for free.

Michael and Mark went back to their original cabbie and got their bags, and went to the Detour.

Jamie and Cara reached the Pit Stop second. And there was even more rejoicing. Kisha and Jen (without their bags) and Tammy and Victor (with their bags) ran to the Pit Stop. Kisha and Jen had to go back to get their passports before they could be checked in. Not good.

Mark and Michael managed to bargain with their cabbie when they didn't have enough money, giving him their compass and flashlight. They then went to the karioke bus, and talked about how pretty the "girls" were, but they were most absolutely transvestites. And not the best transvestites, either. They found a cabbie who would bring them to the Pit Stop for less money than they owed, if they included "some gifts" from their packs - including a watch!

Michael and Mark got to the Pit Stop before Kisha and Jen got back. However - they AGAIN broke a race rule, because they used some of their personal belongings to settle bills. For each incursion, of which there were two, they got a 2 hour penalty. That's four hours. Kisha and Jen got back in time, and the cheating twosome were eliminated.

OR Not. DANG IT. It's a non-elimination leg. The remainder of their penalty (since Kisha and Jen arrived not long after they got their and started their penalty) is to be served out before their release time on the next leg, and they also have a Speed Bump in their way.

Ought to be fun. Looks like Luke loses it on Kisha and Jen. Should be some good tv.
